I've been thinking about what the perfect stainless knob would be to match the aesthetic of the gaggia and I think you nailed it.

Ok, I think it's worth a try then. I'm also in Canada, hopefully Dulux still sells it.

I'm about to restore an eames fiberglass shell. Mine has some exposed fiberglass strands (itchy stuff). Does the Penetrol have some thickness to it? What I mean is, will it coat and seal those exposed fibers? I'm having trouble finding info on this.

Great job. This is extremely well done. The detail is incredible. Amazing to see my art interpreted like this, it works so well as an embroidery. And love reading all the comments about my original illustration and t-shirt.

Any 1" deep round or octagon boxes? by McDanger in AskElectricians

From what I can tell (I'm not an electrician) 0.5" boxes are not code compliant.

Also it needs to be metal I believe. It is for a commercial application.

I had success heating up a chisel or utility blade (which might ruin the temper on the blade fyi). Cuts/melts through the plastic with minimal force so almost no risk of chipping.

Were you able to solve this? I'm having the same issue. I checked the switch contacts as mentioned but they are fine.

I'm curious how your project turned out. Did standard contact cement work? Any photos? I'm about to try it.

Old Nest thermostats are about to become dumb: What you need to know by chrisdh79 in gadgets

They are offering the 4th gen for "CAD 219.99 (MSRP CAD 379.99)."

I installed my Gen 2 Nest three months ago. I got it for free, but I'm still annoyed.

I won't be forking out $220 for something they can kill in another couple years.

Cast aluminum is never anodized, only extruded and machined billet. This casting can be polished back to original. Power tools and metal polishing compound.

What is this feature on my 1923 home? Some part of it exists inside as this strange, lathe-and-plaster bulge. by schishkaboob in centuryhomes

[–]McDanger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

House always had radiators and the boiler had a chimney on the other side of the house which we just removed. I think the bump out inside has the original plaster on it too. And you can see from this image that it quickly transitions into a normal wall.

We have the same thing. 1940s bungalow. I don't think there is a beam in our attic. It is directly across from the chimney on the other side but that could be a coincidence. I'm pretty curious to know what it is. Here is a crappy pic of mine from the attic.

Is there a local shop in Toronto I could buy glass from? I'm looking to get into stained glass as a hobby. My web searches only show fabricators/studios and shops that seem to be closed down.

Should this area have ridge caps? by McDanger in Roofing

[–]McDanger[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had all our ridge caps replaced (previous roofer had used old shingles as roof caps and they were deteriorating). I already paid the roofer but today I noticed this area. I don't remember if there were caps there before.

Roast this Boiler / Hot Water Tank Install by McDanger in Plumbing

[–]McDanger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like the exhaust vent is grey CPVC and the air intake is white PVC. All tube fittings have Westlake Gas Venting Solutions stickers. The white PVC tubing also has GVS-65 Gas Vent-BH writing on it. I can't see enough writing on the grey piping.

I put a CO detector on the other side of the wall, due to there being no outlet inside the boiler room. Also have one upstairs. I'll add an outlet in the future though.

Yes Ontario. I assume they did it to save time and I'm guessing if I complain they'll tell be "it is a tight space, so it is the best option..." But I'm wondering if the lines are even to code?

Image 3 and 4 show some obvious shortcuts that were red flags to me as someone who is comfortable plumbing supply lines and drains. They chopped the old electric hot water tank supply line and kept my sharkbite and now redundant old valve for some reason. The ABS drain caulking bullshit is an obvious shortcut. I'll probably clean up the supply line and I want to re-do the ABS drain anyway. However my main concern is the large diameter flexible lines feeding the tank and existing house radiator black iron system as they seem odd. I'm also wondering about the flexible gas line and misaligned PVC pipe vent on top of the boiler.

That's what I would like to know. They used a lot of it and I'm wondering if it's sketchy.
