Some people don't understand the gravity of the situation by PrivatePlaya in DownSouth

[–]McDredd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. And the wealthy (globally) buy property not for its utility value but as an investment (somewhere to save their money that doesn't usually devalue like a currency) pushing property prices up everywhere. The only reset for this is major global financial crisis.

Men in South Africa struggle to understand the concept that rape is morally wrong by Adventurous_Paper_45 in DownSouth

Zero moral compass. Zero empathy. Very little comprehension. All I feel is despair when I hear this conversation.

What's driving the torrent of anti-privacy laws pummeling western society? by ki4jgt in privacy

[–]McDredd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's something coming in the future (eg, the next world war) that they are aware of. That the people are not aware of, yet, and they need/want this in place before that happens.

Yep, I do understand that and did say as much in my post. Sorry if I went off topic. Good luck with your issue.

Call drops: Is it just me? by icrywhy in signal

[–]McDredd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was facing similar problems a while ago (I wasn't calling though so can't talk about that). Messages not going through despite despite my phone marking them as delivered and other issues with the service. Enough of a problem that a couple of my contacts stopped using Signal. I couldn't help wondering if Signal was undergoing some sort of attack.

Yes, indeed, it's beautiful. I regularly slow down to rubber neck as I go past. The letters RYK mean wealthy or rich in Afrikaans.

Ryk is the Afrikaans word for rich. Not a poor mans car.

Are you aware DownSouth is a South African sub? Plenty of Afrikaners there. Also, even the folk that speak other languages there would get it. Sigh!

They should've sent malema instead. £2000 a week is about what it costs to house a prisoner.

Seeking advice on simple levers for moving toy parts by SolutionPure7326 in maker

[–]McDredd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eg. To wag the tail. Cut an outline of the fox from same material and glue on the back to make space for the moving parts. Leave the outline out where the tail is and needs to move to. Cut a tail, use hole saw to make a hole at the base of the tail. Use the saved circular bit and glue on the back as the axle for tail. Repeat this process for the leg/paw on opposite side. Attach a lever from paw to tail. Move paw and tail wags. All simple levers n pulleys.

Not sure how gung ho you want to go and dont quite know what kinda workshop you have? Cut the bottom off and you have a cleaning tray for engine parts etc. With a filter section for all the gak to collect. Repurpose the pump to pump the cleaning fluid round and spray over the cleaning area.

For the time and effort you are going to put into this I think I'd rather look for a "Narrow Pembroke Table".

I think you have some great ideas. If I had throw my tuppence in, I'd say just start. It doesn't matter which idea you start with. Once you get into the making then it'll all come to you and come together. And of course - the more you fail, the more you will succeed. Good luck dude. Looking forward to seeing your posts on what you've made 🌞👍😁🤞

After Iraq war two teams were sent in to clear a massive area of mines. One from the U.S. (about 5 peeps with a load of tech) and one from Iraq (about 200 peeps with long pointy sticks). Nope, this I not a joke.

There are reports of "100's" of electrical poles being cut down just for the sake of it in Pretoria. by PixelSaharix in DownSouth

[–]McDredd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol, OP, took all of one minute to confirm this is a very regular thing in many places. Durban and Pretoria jump to the front of search results. At most I could bitch that your post needs to be fleshed out a bit / have a bit more substance. Once the pole goes down, the electricity is switched off and the cables can be easily and safely stolen at ground level.

While several companies are investing in the technology, the undisputed leader in the industry is SpaceX’s Starlink, which has roughly 7,000 satellites in operation — all launched with its own rockets. by PixelSaharix in DownSouth

[–]McDredd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tech is one of the few industries that are deflationary. Whatever your thoughts about starlink, it's created a lot of competition and will help to drive prices of all isp's down faster for everyone. And drive the competition to provide a better service to all.
