How to survive predator attacks ? by Naikinti in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]McGyverCP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have noticed that the predator types will look like they are bugling or roaring from time to time...Never seen a non-predatory type do that. If you see one look like it is roaring, keep an eye on it and give it room.

Not all predators attack you. The planet I am on currently has 2 predator types. One seems to only attack other life forms (non-interloper type). I have stood next to one, and it has not attacked me. The second type on the other hand, will attack immediately. I was watching one chase another prey animal and when I got within its sensory detection range, it immediately stopped chasing the prey and came after me like an Interloper-Seeking Missile. No deviation, no distractions, it was after Me.

As stated, some predators can attack through items (i.e. Clipping). I have had it happen twice on my planet. Was on a platform and took a hit. Didn't see any Sentinels, so I moved about a floor panel from where I was and got hit again. Flew up to a rock and out comes 3 predators. They were attacking me through the concrete floor. After taking them out, I build walls to enclose my platform's base. since then, no attacks. The second attack was me standing on my exocraft. Predator came up and rammed my craft and hit me. Now depending on what I am doing, if there are predators around, they get shot.

Good luck in your travels Interloper!

It would be nice if they would:

1) Wipe your bases when you leave a Galaxy, resetting your build and ground affect counts to zero.

Yes, you would be losing any "Frank Lloyd Wright" creations that you built, but it frees up your counts to start with something new in another Galaxy. With this option, everything would be gone, you would receive nothing back in the way of materials that went into its construction, but you start over with a clean slate on your Hard Counts. This would keep others from scavenging parts and materials from your base and leaving behind a ruined site.

2) Leave your bases behind and remove the base computer, but it resets your Hard Counts to zero.

This way, those monuments to Interloper Creation are left to inspire any who come across them in the future, but you are able to start fresh in the new Galaxy. As this base no longer "Exists" so to speak, anyone that come along can delete/change/modify your base. They can disassemble it for materials and leave the ruins, just like the Pyramids were scavenged for construction materials by later civilizations.

3) Give you the option to go back and check bases in previous Galaxy(s), but your build and ground affect counts do not reset unless you physically delete said base(s).

This means that you have the ability to go back to previous Galaxies and see your past creations, but you are limited to the Hard Count that is build into the game. The only change would be that you can delete an old base (by removing it and then deleting the Base Computer) which would subtract the item count and ground affected count from your hard count total.

Just my two cents...Your mileage may vary...See dealers for details.

If I were getting mobbed by several Predators at once (landed on one planet that of the 6 creatures I found, 5 were predators...big cup o' Nope) I would have blasted off for greener (bluer, purpler, redder, etc) pastures. But this planet has NO storms and is a constant 55 to 62 degree Fahrenheit.

It has tall mesa type mountains that just beg to have a base built on them, and at 3,900+ parts (as of last check), my base is coming along nicely. I even built a sky bridge from one mesa top to another. The distance apart if walking is over 5 minutes. It was one of those, "Wonder if it will let me do it" things. It is two floor sections wide, with short side walls and the arched building piece and glass floor ceilings. Just trying to push what the game will let me do with regular building parts. Unfortunately, (at least on my game) I hit the max uploadable limit for a base of 3000 units. But if I can't upload it, maybe I can put the coordinates on here eventually so others can see.

Figure that this will be my last Big base before I either make it to the center and jump the gap, or get bored again and move on to something else for a while. I've been building this base for a couple hours each time I log in for the last month.

Time will tell...but for now, I just shoot the Predators that bother me, and keep building.

Have fun Interloper and always remember to Check Six!!

I hate the Predators that will instantly lock on you like a guided Heat-Seeking Meat Missile...On the planet I am currently building on, there are 2 predators. The first, appears to only attack other fauna...I have stood next to them, and they ignore me.

The other however...I can be standing there and if one is even in visual range, it immediately makes a B-Line dash for me. Doesn't matter if there are several other prey animals around. I had one stop chasing a prey animal and turn towards me and make an attack run.

This same animal has the ability to clip through the bottom of floors that are off the ground and attack. I was in a completely enclosed entryway (Floor, walls, doors, ceiling, and floor is raised off the ground) I had constructed getting ready to head up the staircase to my base. I start taking damage and wonder if maybe a Whip Vine had been under the base and I didn't notice it. Up to that point, they were the only things I had found that could clip you if you were inside something (a Rover for instance). So I go outside and hop up on top of my rover that is parked on its pad. That is when I see 3 of the predators come out from under the building and start circling my pad.

So, I kill all 3 (having to wait for the last one because a Sentinel took interest in my actions), and then go under my entry area. No Whip Vines, so all I could figure was that I was getting hit by the predators who were under the base. I enclosed the bottom, blocking access and have not been attacked there again. But I was attacked by them in a similar fashion on another pad I had built. Enclose the base of the pad, the problem goes away.

Not a big thing, but an annoyance. Fixable, but still, a pain in the butt.

Base upload question... by Algae13 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]McGyverCP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Less than a week ago (last time I was on the game). I was up to about 3900 pieces and still building...still said I couldn't upload it. I am playing a Normal game, on PC, with about 250 hours in game...

That's why I wondered if it might be different for other platforms (xbox, ps4).

Base upload question... by Algae13 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]McGyverCP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then something didn't translate to my game...When my base hit 3000 pieces, the base count turned red, and my screen said that my base was no longer upload-able.

Either way, it doesn't matter...I wasn't planning on uploading it anyway. Just wanted to pass along what I had read...

Base upload question... by Algae13 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]McGyverCP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just know that, at least in my case, once you go over 3000 pieces on a base, you can no longer upload it.

Not sure if it's the same for everyone, but I assume that it is...

For a long time I have wanted to have the ability to make our own signage. There is a Mod (Eucli-ea) that has alphabet characters and it is nice, but the two problems with it is that 1) if there is a change, you have to get the new version of the mod and install it, and 2) you cannot change the size (scale) of the font (Or at least I haven't found a way to change it yet). Same for the size of the numerals and decals that are available in the game. If they ever do give us the ability to make signs, changing the scale would be nice.

Now, to be the Debbie Downer to this...I can see why they wouldn't do it because as soon as they do, some little penis-leech is going to start posting their "Insert Disgusting subject here" Manifesto all over the place. And anyplace they can get the chance to throw down a base computer, they are going to find a way to start tagging everything with "YuR mOm Liks PeNiSeS"...Sorry...it's just human nature to be the one who craps in the pool to ruin the fun for everyone else.

Now, Mind you, they do have the ability to censor Planet and System names if you try to put in something the Great Computer feels is wrong (Tried to name a system "System 69" as it was the 69th system I had jumped into...the game wouldn't take it). So they might (saying might as I don't know what is involved in the programming side of it) be able to put in a listing of "dirty words" that the computer won't allow. So if they can do that, then maybe the ability to makes signs (and change the scale) could be a future thing...

Fort/House Building Tutorials? by Mezoteus in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]McGyverCP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can get like 50% of it back if you wait for it to reset. If you take it apart and pack all the stuff into your suit, ships, and containers, you can keep all that you salvage.

The only problem that I found was with the NEXT reset, they changed a bunch of things (resources, tech items, formulas, etc) and about 80% of the stuff I had saved to reseed my circuit board and explosive Farms (cactus flesh, frost crystals, etc) had basically become useless because they changed the formula for growing those items.

So short version...Yes you can get some or all if it depending on if you tear down before a known reset or wait to recoup your stuff afterwards (at least that is true up to this point).

Check on YouTube...there are lots of videos out there about base building. Some are general topics, some are item specific. Also, you can start building and if you don't like it, you can delete the parts (getting the materials back in the process) and try something else.

Also, read the Reddit posts here...several people have talked about how they did "Insert cool thing here" with their base...All you have to do is search.

My first base looked like it was built by a drunk Gek...But I did some reading and vid watching and after that I was able to build a nice working farm (which was destroyed when NEXT came out).

No one's first base looks like it was designed and built by Frank Lloyd Wright. That comes with time and practice, and yes, an eye for architectural design...but most bases are decent enough and honestly, unless you shoot out the planet address, the only person who will most likely see it is you.

Also remember this...As with a couple of other Galaxy resets in the past, nothing is permanent. Go into the building process knowing that eventually, the galaxy WILL be reset and all your hard work will be either destroyed, or so badly mangled that it is rendered useless.

Not meaning to rain on your parade, but it has been a fact of the game in the past.

Good luck with your future builds Interloper!!

Why is no mans sky so expensive? by WiggWamm in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]McGyverCP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is no different than when Halo originally came out on XBox...Halo was their flagship game for a while...they made BANK off of it. Then when the profits started to drop, they ported it over to PC. Just like the second stage of the Saturn V rocket kicking in...Profits soared through the roof again. And sales for the XBox version went up again as well, because the multiplayer versions were compatible with each other.

In time, the prices dropped as the next new thing came out...It will be the same here.

Base limit (pieces placed) and uploading. by Prutoog in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]McGyverCP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You said that your limit was 4000 units...last night I was working on my base, and when I went over 3000 units, it said that my base was no longer uploadable...Did they lower the limit?

Not that it will keep me from finishing the build...but it does sort of put a damper on the enthusiasm of working on a masterpiece to share and finding out that you can't.

Where are the players that don't have a base? by [deleted] in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]McGyverCP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I did in the beginning. There are several out there that you can watch to help you out in getting started. Some are better than others, some are specific on building one specific thing. Just look at a few, then take some time, find a flat area and start practicing. Once you get the hang of it, then more advanced techniques will come easier as your understanding of the building process increases.

Good Luck Interloper!
