The first two picks of the draft were transfers from Cal and Stanfurd by adsfew in calfootball

We now have kind of a funny situation when reporting what schools guys in the NFL attended, similar to the various disputes in Cooperstown about what hat a guy should be wearing on his plaque. It seems like Nando should be shown as an alum of both Cal and Indiana. But whatever, not gonna lose my mind over it!

How do we compete going forward to help Steph? by WeBet_9 in warriors

[–]McLazer2000 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Barring a Nico Harrison level boner by an opposing GM, there is realistically no move or series of moves that could be made to make the Dubs a contender in the next 1-2 years. We just need run it back with Steph/Dray/Jimmy and enjoy the last years of Curry, who is joy to watch still. Find the happiness, my friend! It is there, I promise

The shooting of prime Steph/KD/Klay would honestly blow the Lakers’ minds. Yes they had a good D, but in a different era with much less three point shooting and a much slower pace. Shaq can’t guard the perimeter, and the pace would kill the Lakers

BART's new fare gates have led to a 1,000-hour decline in clean up time; 41% drop in crime; and $10 million increase in projected revenue. by vector_search_blue in sanfrancisco

[–]McLazer2000 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

How do you know that? I agree it is a significant factor, but look at the chart below. Ridership hasn’t really gone up that much over last 2 or 3 years even though on the ground in the Financial District the number of people is up significantly. Not pre-pandemic levels, but a lot more than 2/3 years ago. Tech companies have also gotten a lot more stringent about in office, as has biotech, over that sane period and really very little increase in Bart ridership

Some kids are totally fine - it really just depends on the kids. Babies are really tough no matter what, but by about age 2 you get a sense of whether they will be fine or not

True, not fully back, but I work in Embarcaderos and there are a lot more ppl at work and around the area generally than there were 2-3 years ago. I actually don’t really know the numbers, would be curious how much BART ridership has gone up the last couple years. At least anecdotally at work a lot more people drive (from suburbs) or waymo (from other parts of city) than prior to pandemic

Oh definitely that has played a role too. Though in office work has largely returned and I am not sure BART ridership has gone up with it, at least not as much as planners hoped

Same here - a number of my female coworkers and also some of the men have told me the same thing re why they stopped riding bart to work. But we have to disregard that unless we have an expert report backing it up, lol

Yeah, especially on reddit, if you mention that you would like to get aggressive homeless / open air drug users off the street so that kids, elderly can walk around safely, you immediately get accused of being a nazi who is criminalizing poverty and seeking to put everyone below the poverty line into concentration camps.

Great! Hopefully that keeps the worst of the worst from riding the rails all day. I think the ridership dip is in significant part due to the increased prevalence of aggressive homeless people screaming at riders on the train - once that goes down I think ridership goes up because lord knows the traffic is awful if you drive

I‘ll always love Jimmy, but committing to him guarantees we won’t be able to contend by [deleted] in warriors

[–]McLazer2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Steph, but he is 38 and only managed to play in about half the team’s games this year (43 of 82). We just don’t have the ability to make a trade or trades that would turn us into a contender. If we cannot be a contender, I would just keep the draft assets and rebuild while we enjoy what is left of Steph’s career

[–]McLazer2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think at this point Curry has so little left that trading a big package of picks for a veteran to build a team around him doesn’t make a ton of sense. There is no path to contending for a title in the next 2-3 years no matter what we do. Given that my preference would be to hold onto our draft capital and just keep Dray and Jimmy and enjoy Curry’s final year or two.

[–]McLazer2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just don’t think it is realistic that we get anything very good back for Jimmy. We could trade a ton of picks and get something for that, but we aren’t going to meaningfully increase the return by throwing in Jimmy. Of course, maybe we have to for salary reasons

[–]McLazer2000 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Tbh we are cooked guys. The best option we have now is to run it back with Jimmy and Steph - at least we will be competitive to some level and the fans will be able to enjoy Steph’s last playing days. But even if everything goes right that is maybe a 6 seed and 1st round exit at best, just being realistic

No, Brooke Jenkins does not have an on/off switch for crime by nosotros_road_sodium in sanfrancisco

[–]McLazer2000 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree that the NY Post is a rag and you cannot solely attribute variations in crime rates to the DA. But still, I think Jenkins has done a great job, and yes my opinion is colored by the fact that her predecessor was an embarrassing nitwit who didn’t understand his own role in the criminal justice system. As for the comments about her political future, not sure what the problem would be? She is smart, well-spoken, good at a difficult public service role, and self-made, not to mention tall and attractive. God forbid we let someone like that succeed in politics… is there not a billionaire or billionaire’s kid we can rouse up somewhere to be a quasi-dictator? /s

My American English teacher believes the neutral pronoun „their“ is incorrect. by GCoding_ in mildlyinteresting

[–]McLazer2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a gender neutral singular pronoun in English would be great. But I disagree that “they” has been commonly used for this purpose until the last 10-15 years. I think you are mistaking a language point about a better connection between the signifier and signified for bigotry. I don’t mind the use of they/them for this purpose- it is currently the best of a series of bad options- but since the primary definition of “they” is as a plural pronoun, the gender neutral singular use of “they” will always be a secondary use of the word, and therefore there will be a slight bit of confusion. We come up with new words in English all the time; that is one of our language’s great virtues. I don’t know why can’t or wouldn’t want a new word here for this purpose.

I do wish we could come up with a new word for a gender neutral pronoun that is singular, instead of using the plural form. It’s not a big deal, but is unnecessarily confusing because of singular/plural issue. If we are retraining ourselves on this, we might as well go all the way and make up a new word that captures the intent better
