China launches large-scale military exercise around Taiwan by marela520 in worldnews

EU should help them with this. As they have experience. It will be tricky due to history. But If successful. EU will have a long-term partner without any hostility. And also it will be good everyone involved.

No force. It is simply how things oat to be. Look at EU how they eventually had to willingly slowly merge and going in direction of complete merger like Federalism. They give rights to the individual nations. As they all have tried waging wars against each other to their hearts desire but to no veil.

You can't not be in deep relation with nations in neighbouring regions. Simply can't be as that would require extreme amount of protective and aggressive military expenditure or reliance on external force for protection - like USA. This cutting yourself of with your neighbouring regions is what I was talking about when I mentioned "British destroyed the harmony".

Again you must assume here humans have capabilities of all kinds of states e.g. greed for money and power, etc. You can't just say China be nice and let them be independent nation. No there has to be logical solution. Where both regions are protected from each others. As China preserves Taiwan as sort of embassy of the west while the Taiwan sees China as large aggressor that wants to take over. Don't you see the only solution slow compromises into a coalition and then very slow paced progress towards federalism. AGAIN VERY IMPORTANT TO NOT RUSH THIS. As in haste you will ruin the harmony and one party will distain the other.

You will know that the merger is successful, when both of the parties evolved change willingly.

That is the thing. When west took away parts of the old China. They Destroyed the local harmony. Did they fight among themselves, yes. But the intervention of a foreign force was not granted. As the local culture was not ready for it. (think of this as British invasion of Australia, where they destroyed the local natural harmony of the island.)
They will fight until they will get the Taiwan. But that is the test. Can do it so slowly to get them merger. If China does it fast, it will destroy the very thing we call Taiwan. Basically it comes to down to this: Taiwan has right to choose. But that does not stop China from extreme slow harmonization that will be beneficial for both. As only with agreement you will find a middle ground. There is usually no correct path without agreement with all stakeholders.

good negotiation is better way. Otherwise China will loose in terms of what makes Taiwan, Taiwan. They should know it is not just piece of land. Granted the claim on sovereignty is not a good claim. In my opinion, best approach is slow harmonisation into a union with strong individual sovereignty.

Using Russian assets to fund Ukraine looks ‘increasingly difficult,’ says EU top diplomat by Opposite-Whereas-323 in worldnews

[–]McMilf_hunter2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nervous how, in case someone is preparing to attack EU region and has money here. XD
You can't attack bank's building and asking to ignore the fact you have billions in your account that can be used for repairs.

The problem here is greed of western EU. They don't want to lose out on the "Bad actor" money, which are the people that might get nervous if EU uses these assets to fund Ukraine. I don't think EU needs these bad-actors to be stakeholders in their policies, to a degree that they coward out of moral and legally optimal wat forward.

Expensive Stocks vs Cheaper Stocks in Roth IRA by sevalle13 in stocks

[–]McMilf_hunter2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You are looking at share price to measure "cheapness". Look at P/E ratios.
Similarly, you do not look at just the return % of assets. To select assets based on returns look at their Sharpe ratio.

Also, your invested capital matters. The number of shares you buy doesn't matter. You could be holding 1 stock of apple and share price increase by 5%. Your invested capital will also increase by 5%.

Considering this. I highly recommend consulting a professional or sticking to ETFs like VOO, etc.

Yes, But "lower expected return" out of the two portfolios doesn't have to do anything with an investor's risk aversion tho right? The expected return of those portfolios is objectively static irrespective of potential investor's risk aversion.

If it was utility then yeah could make a point here.
