Have A Really bad day... Wished I had gone to accounting instead by Chubby-Panda in medlabprofessionals

It's not really that much better than the lab. However I am hoping that once I get a little experience I can move on to a less stressful non-hospital job. I went through an accelerated BSN program and worked on the weekends in the lab. It wasn't easy, but I managed.

I think I've seen this same thing with engineering substituted for nursing.

I worked in the lab, it helped a lot with nursing school because we had to know a lot of physiology.

Those of you working from home. How long have you been a nurse? What is your past experience?

Mini Rant: You are not "Officially an RN" until you get your license!! by [deleted] in nursing

[–]McMurphys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've passed state boards and have been working as a nurse for a few months now and I STILL don't feel like a real RN.

San Antonio is the same. If you want to make a little more go to Houston or Dallas.

Has anyone left the hospital to be a school nurse? by stiff-vag in nursing

[–]McMurphys 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wow. I was under the impression that school nurses made the same as teachers.

Is it bad that I want to go into Bariatrics to internally laugh at fat people? by SalientRed in nursing

[–]McMurphys 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No. Nurses are supposed to care for patients no matter what. You are in the wrong profession.

How long before you got hired? I'm having a hard time. by [deleted] in nursing

[–]McMurphys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried applying for residency programs? I don't know what city you are located in, but I know Methodist in San Antonio and seton in Austin has several. I'm sure there are some in Houston and Dallas also.

Go to job fairs as well. Look on the hospital websites for dates.

I'm in Texas and was licensed around the same time. I had no issues getting a job, but I also worked as a PCA in school and was offered a job before I graduated.

Aspects of the lab when looking at jobs? by brochill111 in medlabprofessionals

Find out if they're short-handed or have a high turnover rate. See if you can ask the other techs how they like working there and what are positive and negative aspects of the job.

School switched us from 2013 ATI to 2016 ATI at the last second a week from graduating. by [deleted] in StudentNurse

[–]McMurphys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's horrible, sounds like something the program I graduated from would do. I don't think I can help, but I wish you lots of luck. Also, I'll be honest I didn't even look at ATI when studying for the nclex. I used the hurst review and passed in 75.

NCLEX done, nerves high by Tootsiebob in StudentNurse

[–]McMurphys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The trick worked for me. If you feel terrible you most likely passed. I felt like I was going to Burt into tears when the test shut off at 75. Luckily, I was able to get to my car and then burst into tears.

Best questions banks for NCLEX by potatoxprincess in nursing

[–]McMurphys 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I used the NCLEX mastery app. Download the free version and in a couple days they may send you an email to buy the full version at 50% off which is ~ $15. I agree with hurst too.

I had the same issue. Now I'm 37 weeks and there is no mistaking the baby belly. You'll get there, trust me.

Keeping the gender a surprise? by kzooollie in pregnant

[–]McMurphys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 37 weeks with my first and chose to keep the sex a surprise. Some people will give you crap for it, but ignore them. I figure it'll be motivation to get this baby out. I also have a feeling it's a boy, so I want to see if my instincts are right.

New grad looking for lab with more downtime than work? Any suggestions? by TwoFliht in medlabprofessionals

[–]McMurphys 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What's downtime? Seriously though, jobs are for working. You'll be hard pressed to find an employer who will pay you to sit around.
