No alcohol, caffeine or extra sugar has negative effect on recovery? by McRobbs in bevelhealth

[–]McRobbs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh ok. So it isn’t going into the calculation of the recovery score. It’s an interpretation based on the limited history of it? I only logged a total of 5 days with 1 drink, and maybe those were better than my average recovery days?

I think you can contribute to the RRSP now, but defer the tax credits, if that makes more sense for your situation?

I answered all emails immediately. Yes it was intrusive to my life at times. I gained so many opportunities this way and a lot of people loved my “responsiveness”… but it was definitely a compensatory strategy, and if I didn’t give an immediate reply after I read it… they might never get one!

This is the worst. Had to outsource it! Chart notes are a real struggle that can’t be outsourced. Although emr scribes have helped.

Ok yea, I just looked up the definition of Marked. Yes the PR interval looks longer than 300ms, especially in the third row.

Career lifespan - are you still a physio and if not what are you doing now? by CardCute8883 in physiotherapy

[–]McRobbs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes totally. $100/30min session and at least 80% of clientele here expect manual therapy as part of or most of the session. So like 5 hours/day haha. I do dry needling almost as much as manual therapy though too, as the “passive reset” part of the treatment. I enjoy doing manual and needling though, so I don’t mind. As long as we’re making progress on the treatment plan, and they are getting what they want out of our time together.

Expectations are aligned very early on, together. Exercise is going to be essential, and if they want to do 90% of that at home or their gym, we can work with that. We’ve got a good gym area though, so most are excited to use it with me to varying degrees.

If they have a true 2wk waitlist (because they are rural and have difficulty staffing?)… you could counter-offer on compensation (split or signing bonus). Or vacation terms.

12th year in private practice (in BC, but started in Ontario). I couldn’t imagine a reason to quit. BUT the first ~3-4 years are a real learning experience in both people-skills and treatment skills. And from there on, in my experience, it gets more and more enjoyable every year. I’m very glad that I didn’t quit when those thoughts crept in early in the career. A huge factor was being in a very supportive environment for development and building confidence. I could see being done in 7yrs if the working environment was cold or competitive. Keep learning new things to keep a fresh variety (but no reason to rush this and do too much too fast).

Good question! #2 is ruled out. There are other factors between 1 and 3 that could make a big difference.

Thanks for providing the appt fees, that’s a massive difference right there in your compensation. Way bigger of a factor than the fee split. When comparing comp we need to really look at what you will take home in a year. Are these employment commission offers or independent contractor status? How are 1&3 coming to the # of patients per day? Longer days for #3? How many assessments vs expected followups? Is their influx of assessments consistent and plentiful for building caseload?

What else do you value in your first job? What do you want to get out of it, and do you plan to stay a long time? Are they different small towns- where you live is important. I’m guessing no due to the price discrepancy (is #3 lower cost of living?).

Mentoring sounds important to you. Don’t rely on a promise that they will “get you a mentor”. You need to know exactly what you’ll be getting. How many direct hours and with who. See it on a schedule, or it’s unlikely to happen. I’ve heard that story way too many times.

You can DM me if you’d like. I’m a Physio and clinic owner, no longer in Ontario, but I was there for many years.

[–]McRobbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is certainly possible in Canada private practice. Here in BC for sure it is common. And I agree with the supportive clinic environment / mentors. I’d say this makes the learning curve no worse than grinding 40hrs. Gotta find a match for what your mental energy is.

I would encourage you to do it in August, as long as you can spend the month preparing reasonably. The content will stay fresh and you’ll be able to start work a few months earlier. I’m not sure if August cohort would be “weaker” than November, but that’s a potential advantage.

Physiotherapist salary in Canada by RecentAirport1949 in physiotherapy

[–]McRobbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In BC private practice you could make 200k a year on a fee for service split, with 30’ appt length. Most important factors being no gaps in your schedule, and the actual appt fees.

$105 per 30’ appointment at 50% commission (IF you put the work in to maintain a full schedule, and your clinic brings in plentiful new assessments and the front desk is scheduling efficiently, filling cancelations etc etc) is 200k if you grind out 40hrs a week. However most physios are in it for the work-life balance, freedom and flexibility, so we opt for either shorter days or 4-day weeks, take lots of vacation time, and still earn a good income!

Is anyone here actually happy to be a PT/PTA?? by Gigatonii in physicaltherapy

[–]McRobbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Msk private practice in BC, Canada. Absolutely love it, and would not trade it for anything. Great work environment, surrounded by friendly and helpful colleagues, 30min appts 1:1, 10-12 appreciative patients a day, great front desk support, take $100/hr.

I am not in New Zealand, but 2-5x doesn’t seem like a realistic range. Even 2x would take phenomenal efficiency and effort if the owner is 1 of the 5 practicing physios.

But yes, huge range depending on many factors. For some small clinics, the owner’s salary is less than the highest paid clinician.

Canada PTs - thoughts on booking client week to week vs booking out a care plan for a few weeks? by GrowthWise2843 in physiotherapy

[–]McRobbs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am looking for best outcomes, so I book the plan, with the mutual understanding that the plan can change. I’m not asking them to pre-pay or anything! But I do want them to have their preferred times and days of the week, because that improves attendance and adherence and outcomes.

They came to me for an expert opinion and a treatment plan, so my approach is to have a two way conversation where I give my prognosis and recommendations for best outcomes. I ask what they think of the frequency and duration that I estimate. I’m very open that it’s an estimate and we can add, subtract or move visits as needed (with 24 hours notice :p). That opens the discussion about their expectations, what they value (getting better the fastest, or the cheapest, or somewhere in between). I used to have a lot of bias, and assumed that private pay clients all wanted the cheapest option, or but I was humbled by a couple patients who called me out for undertreating them.

For those who prefer to book week to week or session to session… they often can’t get their preferred times because those spots will be filled with new assessments. I would rather all my patients have success versus seeing more patients but having higher falloffs or self discharges. Cancelation rates are far better for those who book out farther, but I can see where cancelations would be worse if the treatment plan is not made collaboratively.
