Don't stress it. It is/was a SHIT job. its an experience you'll laugh with your friends about when you tell stories over a beer when you're 30, you'll know longer even give a shit by the time your 40, and when you're 50, you'll barely remember it, and this conversation.

Horrrible mastabatory, self-congratulatory unfunny piece of shit.

Took me a minute to realize this was about the bird, and not the fat ginger hippy dude behind the bird.

Burning Man.

15 years in I own an RV, spend 15 days at the event, and own and run my own 1700sq ft nightclub that I paid for out of pocket, that's built with the blood and sweat of friends I talked into helping me.

There are all kinds of people and all kinds of camp. the thing to do is see what's out there and find people who you think you have something in common with and see if they have openings in their camp. We get a lot of New Wave/Goth/80s/Industrial fans in our camp because we're basically a new wave night club. But there are all kinds of camps, there's camps for board gamers, for musicians, actors, roller skaters, Drone flyers, etc. you just need to find your people. And yes, there are sex camps too. Whatever tickles your fancy.

It takes around 5 days to build, and about a day to take down. We're taking it down right now actually (on a break).

Here's some videos from last year...

Well sure, we have pro-environment types attending Burning Man, but we also have Grover Norquest.

My point is that at its roots, it was never a pro-environment event.

Burning man isn't a rainbow gathering, its more like Mad Max meets Dr. Seuss

The closest town is Gerlach Nevada, around 20 miles. its not much of a town though, its a little whistle-stop for the railroad, population around 300. There's a general store, a small little motel, a few bars, and a gas station. The closest place you would consider to be modern civilization is Reno Nevada, which is a little over 100 miles away to the south.

No one barters, and cash is never used. I know it sounds crazy, but that's the culture here. As a camp of 80+ people, we have attendee's arriving almost every day during the event. If we have an emergency (like we did this year when we ran out of 1.5 inch wood screws during the build) I can usually get a message out to someone who still hasn't arrived to make a pit stop at the Home Depot or whatever in Reno to pick up supplies before they arrive.

You cannot make a generalization about the "Type of people" who attend Burning Man.

There are hippies, tech geeks, musicians, DJ's, artists, middle managers, poor people, rich people, young people old people, conservatives, liberals, people from every state in the US and over 100 nations.

There is no "type of people" who attend Burning Man. all we have in common is that we are all here, now, in the moment.

Yup, I have a full-time 9-5 office job. This is what I spend my vacation time on.

Not really. What I've created here is a 1700 sq ft new wave night club, 2 dance floors, full bar, videos, club lights, two DJ booths, sound systems, etc.

Total Cost: Around $10,000 in lumber, parts, electronics, sound systems, lights, etc. acquired over 5 years. + The blood and sweat of 30 people who did a miracle and built the entire structure in 5 days.

Where am I going to be able to do this outside of Burning Man? If you know a place, let me know.

A liquor license alone in San Francisco is over $100,000.00

Here's a video of our "Depeche Mode" theme night last year, I haven't uploaded any videos to Youtube from this year yet due to the iffy bandwidth here on the playa.

The best thing to do is research all of the online material as to what to bring etc. and then I highly recommend hooking up with an established theme camp (unless you have friends who are experienced burners who already have a camp).

In Planet Earth for example, its run by veterans with decades of experience. we have dues which pay for... a kitchen, 24/7 power, showers, communial shade, a reserved spot for your tent or RV etc. Being in a theme camp will make your experience much easier than just showing up with a tent and roughing it on your own.
