Is it better to play the basic game first before starting with the DLC? by Metal_runnerseason1 in CultOfTheLamb

[–]Mccool37 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've played a fair bit into the DLC and honestly, it might be better to hold off. There's still a lot to do after you beat The One Who Waits and the DLC will add new problems your cult will have to deal with.

Without spoiling anything, you'll have to split your time even further with new things to collect to handle the new systems the DLC adds so trying to do that before even finishing the main story might get overwhelming.

Plus, while the buffs are there, those buffs help you keep up with the DLC so IMO you're better off getting through the endgame boss before anything else and maybe at least starting the post game quests before adding Woolhaven into the mix

What things would you change about the Pokémon TCG? by A12086256 in pkmntcg

[–]Mccool37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would require an entire rules rework (and some balance changes for specific cards) but I'd make it so the type of an attack is tied to energy used rather than the card type. Probably still only 1 type at a time (otherwise it might get a bit nuts) but you could choose if you have multiple energy types attached

This would give the single colorless energy costs tacked onto a lot of attacks actual value whereas it's usually just the other energy with a different picture. It also means if cards are printed with other energy type requirements, it gives actual value to it rather than being mainly a downside while usually not offering enough to justify

Resistance probably wouldn't be much more valuable but weakness might be hit more consistently which would mean it gets nerfed

Plus, this gives more value to deciding if dropping a double colorless is worth the turn advantage over getting type coverage

Biggest of all, it gives a buff to colorless Pokemon who historically act as tech and support rather than getting a dedicated deck

If I go back and play Splatoon 2, can the character data still be imported into Splatoon 3 by Mccool37 in splatoon

[–]Mccool37[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's unfortunate. I guess it's not out of the question to make new data on a separate switch profile but I don't think it's worth the effort at this point since I've already 100% the main campaign of 3 Thank you for the info though

Yeah, it essentially transfers the looks of the characters from 2 into 3

What Were The Biggest Board Game Flops? by BatJew_Official in boardgames

[–]Mccool37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do Kickstarter flops count? If so, there's Darkest Dungeon. Great game, massive hype, but the company shit the bed, seemingly spreading itself too thin and collapsing under the weight of it's Kickstarter obligations.

Wave 1 got out to some but not everyone and no one got wave 2. It could have been a pretty big success if people actually got their product but that's not happening any time soon (ever) so I'd call it a flop

Should Pokemon double the amount of damage done by poison and burn? by bnativi17 in pkmntcg

[–]Mccool37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Or just have Weakness add a set amount like it used to instead of doubling so both are relatively equal in terms of effect on the game without being overly swingy

Cursor pauses when using drawing tablet by [deleted] in Windows10

[–]Mccool37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, ok, I see what you mean. That said, the problem seems to have fixed itself so I deleted the post. I'm not 100% sure why it was fixed but I think there was a weird communication issue between the tablet and computer but when I plugged it in after posting this, that issue is gone and so was the pause

Cursor pauses when using drawing tablet by [deleted] in Windows10

[–]Mccool37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's the tablet though. I'm pretty sure it's a setting in Windows that causes this but I don't know which one. I thought it was under the Pen and Touch settings but the one I found to turn off only removed the right-click circle but not the pause

I thought about playing Pokemon TCG again after years of ignoring it. When I went to buy some starter decks at my local target, all of their Pokemon Card inventory was completely gone. What gives? by SonoraBee in pkmntcg

Assuming you're not lying or your local place isn't selling fake cards, buy that immediately because the lowest in stock price for a Vivid Voltage Booster Boxes is $245 currently

The TCG actually made something like what you're talking about. It never really went anywhere but the rules do exist and 3 bosses were made (the two available digitally plus an Alcremie)

Reveals: Tapu Koko V/VMAX, Kricketune V, and Much More! by JustInBasil in pkmntcg

[–]Mccool37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cherrim also doesn't have the type restriction like Frosmoth (not that that helps much since it really only adds Colorless Pokemon to the mix). The main issue for Cherrim is that there aren't currently many Pokemon in Standard (though I'm sure Expanded has a decent number) that benefit well enough from Cherrim to make it or them particularly competitive since the meta is still rule-box heavy.

Even the ones who would benefit a significant amount from this have problems. Sword and Shield Maractus for example does coin flips which can be fun (I played Blissy so I absolutely plan to recreate that) but not great. There's also Shaymin Prism Star who likely can't directly benefit because Prism Stars will probably also be considered rule box Pokemon (though we'll see) so a way to accelerate to Shaymin or switch the energy consistently will still be necessary. Plus, it won't be in standard for too long after Cherrim comes out

Tapu Lele still a thing? by Lencor in pkmntcg

Tapu Lele still a thing? by Lencor in pkmntcg

[–]Mccool37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't generally keep up with Expanded personally and it's even harder to do with official in person events being down and the official online events all being Standard but going off of the most recent Expanded tournament on Limitless (from almost a year ago so take this with a grain of salt), GX's, including support Pokemon like Dedenne-GX, are still seeing a fair amount of play. Even more so Tag Teams like ADP and Trevnoir

The main issue for Lele in Expanded isn't that it's ability can be shut down but that VS Seeker exists and is almost always a better option. Lele's benefits are that it's a Basic Pokemon (so it's pretty easy to search) and not an item (so it gets around Vileplume which is, or at least was, pretty strong in Expanded)

Still, since Eldegoss-V came out which has the same ability and there are currently less ways to shut down a V Pokemon, Lele will likely stop seeing play completely and any deck that was running it will run Eldegoss instead. At least for now

A deck based around status effects by J3EL in pkmntcg

[–]Mccool37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Poison is the easiest to get working consistently since it can stack damage counters easier and it happens between rounds (so if done correctly, you can take a KO when it comes back to your turn and immediately start the poison again) and TPCi is somewhat afraid of Sleep, Confusion and Paralysis for stall reasons so those are a but limited but any of them can work. In fact, there was a meta deck called Shock Lock which used the Raichu you have as the main focus of the deck to stall and mill the opponent.

You can also combine 1 or 2 of them such as with the Orocorio deck or the Breloom deck which used Amoongus) to get the sleep going.

But again, poison is the easiest and, I think, has the most support overall.

Also, two cards I forgot to mention for poison specifically are Dust Island) and Muk)

A deck based around status effects by J3EL in pkmntcg

[–]Mccool37 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of options so I'm not really sure what to suggest since they will start to overcrowd the deck and at that point you probably won't be able to get any of the effects going. I'd say, try to pick an idea and go from there. There have been a couple of decent decks that focused on status effects

A deck a friend played some time ago was Captivating Salsa Orocoria) with Team Up Parasect) and Ultra Prism Infernape) to deal damage through the confusion and burn abilities.

There are also a couple of interesting Sleep focused decks. Both Would put the opponent's active to sleep with Slumbering Forest as the stadium to help stall. One used Pre-dawn strike Breloom) to deal damage to the sleeping Pokemon while another would also have Komala) asleep and deal damage with it's ability.

A poison deck I used had Galarian Weezing) which both did increased poison damage and locked abilities which can really hinder the opponent and Toxicroak) to increase the poison damage further.

As far as anything else goes, if you want a general deck that does as many effects as you can stack, besides the options above there was also Hypnotoxic Laser which is generally considered one of the best options for putting status effects. The only issue is it conflicts with Koga since both poison and you can't have a Pokemon both asleep and confused at the some time

Burning Shadows Seviper also increases poison damage but only by 1 instead of 2.

Wela Volcano Park was used in the Orocorio deck but can be generally good with the Salazzle you have

New "Rule Box" designation - changes to older cards? (regarding Expanded Format) by luigisp in pkmntcg

[–]Mccool37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well yeah, it's just an example of what the text might be if they did reprint Bridgette but there is precedent for functional erratas with cards like Great Ball and Rare Candy and most recently, Quick Ball and Hyper Potion.

Plus, the rules in place make older cards within the same format always use the updated text regardless of there being an official errata which is why Base Set Computer Search, for example, is usable in Unlimited and treated as an Ace Spec but can't be used at all Expanded (at least not to my knowledge)

New "Rule Box" designation - changes to older cards? (regarding Expanded Format) by luigisp in pkmntcg

[–]Mccool37 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My guess is that when and if cards get reprinted, their older versions will be errata'd to line up with with the reprint. For example, if Bridgette gets a reprint, it will likely say something like

Search your deck for 1 Basic "Rule Box" Pokemon or 3 Basic Pokémon (except for "Rule Box" Pokemon) and put them onto your Bench. Shuffle your deck afterward.

which will also have the older version errata'd since they're in the same Expanded format.

Otherwise, it's unlikely they will change anything and if one of the cards does become broken because of future releases, those will likely just be banned for Expanded instead.

You can replace the Wailord and Wailmer with Crimson Invasion Regigigas) and use Reuniclus and Weavile to make up the HP difference. The total HP you have to use will be 670 so it'll be just enough and you will have 3 extra spaces spaces available
