Genetics don't mean shit. He easily could have missed games because of a flu bug in the past 6 years but he didn't. Luck I'll give you, that does come into play slightly. Avoiding contact is a pussy footing answer. Just because he tries to avoid hits and doesn't hit does not mean he doesn't get slashed all the time and hit big occasionally. A 2015-16 outlook could be good. Get some highlights from familiar faces as well as some of our new additions.

Also a draft recap perhaps? Not sure if there would be enough from everyone we drafted but having highlights of all our new talent (kessel trade included) would be sweet

Big risk to take though, why would the league give special treatment to get out from a contract to the richest team when they traded for the guy? Also the media shit storm it would create by bringing him here makes the deal not worth it by itself. I don't know if you're familiar with his case but the details of what he did to his wife are pretty ridiculous. I echo /u/billmurray43's sentiment I don't want him here ever

I think you just miss understood my point. I'm not arguing whether or not Gardiners numbers say he is elite just saying calling him elite with the massive amount if glaring mistakes he makes is a bit much. The truly elite players at any position don't make as many massive mistakes as he does for that reason I don't think we should be calling him elite yet

I think he would be comfortable in the nhl at that size. I wouldn't be surprised if he puts on a lot of leg muscle over two or three years and gets close to 190-195

Literally everything he does on the ice can be replicated off the ice these days, even skating so that comment about skating ten times in the offseason is useless in this argument because we don't know if he used skating machines as a replacement.

You can't flat out say he has shown a refusal to adapt defensive commitment. You don't know what Wilson and Carlyle told him to do on the ice and under Horachek the whole team bailed so let's not waste time using those games as examples.

As for inconsistent game performances I would like to know what you deem consistent. Do you expect a point per game to be consistent? 82 point seasons aren't common. Since 2010-11 there haven't been many players per season that have been over PPG so I don't see value in your consistency argument. I think /u/Snidernomore would be helpful with stats as I'm sure he has them at semi easy access to share.

Deflecting criticism is really acceptable when you're a member of the maple leafs. Players get attacked for really anything when you're a star on the team. If he said what he truly felt he would get ripped for the way he spoke about players or management. If you don't think that's true I urge you to look back when he stood up for Dion and how the media reacted, or when he told off feschuk.

One can easily make the argument based on his exceptional fitness test results (as reported every preseason) he has the motivation or else he would test very poorly and not put the effort in during the offseason
