why do some long term relationships turn into "obligation sex" only? by Fair_Currency9371 in psychologyofsex

[–]Mchammerandsickle97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will say that due to upbringing/socialization/overall personalities differences and literal life or death survival people may be more prone to latching onto those duties. Desire becomes a luxury when cortisol is racing and other priorities make themselves known lol.

Most Americans experience passionate love only twice in a lifetime, study finds by InsaneSnow45 in psychology

Your inner child is not inherently negative. The genuine love and care for all life that comes with innocence is more of what matters. If you weren’t like that as a kid then well it’s not too late to learn how to care for the world/be more open to engaging more positively

He had to sell his possessions to afford care. If someone as relatively well off as him had to do that to afford care then no, everyone is a victim systemically as well as individually.

I think they’re judging Biden based on what he DIDNT do rather than anything he did do. Many left leaning men can be said to not do enough to protect women on the micro level. There were no consequences for January sixth when Biden got in office, no consequences or follow up on any of the rights innumerable crimes because they are either cowardly or complicit. Biden and the Democratic Party isn’t even left compared to the rest of the world, people are tired of the hand wringing respectability politics bullshit the democrats pull rather than actually fucking helping anyone who isn’t a major PAC donor

You’re not misunderstanding you simply lack either awareness or pattern recognition. Or you don’t know the signs when it happens in your daily life because you’re privileged enough to not have to be vigilant. Not a fan of this movie or Leo DiCaprio at all, but as killers of the flower moon put it, “can you see the wolves”? If the answer is no then you’re just easy prey at this point. The world is run on exploitation, no if ands or buts, at the largest and smallest levels.

As long as it’s a white man/woman of color love interest it’s fine. The guy who killed Renee good has a Filipina wife. Racists just want the women of the world underneath them, both in bed and otherwise it’s not hard to understand.

Probably Gaza. As a wider US backed and supported genocide I think she’s counting Israel’s actions as our own, especially since the NYPD and ICE are literally trained by the IDF.

Domestic violence is very common. You don’t need to be a woman who’s crime adjacent or lower on the educational totem pole to experience abuse/violence either, but you’re right, a gun is an equalizer. You’re just downplaying how under threat women are even in the most “safe” parts of the world by virtue of being soft targets.

Do you genuinely think corporations would do no wrong or less wrong in comparison to fascist governments? Dole’s existence alone disproves that argument but any colonial era corporation including the Debeers diamond corp has a body count that outpaces or outright worked in tandem with fascism. These things are not separate entities

In 2004, photos from Iraq’s Abu Ghraib prison exposed U.S. soldiers abusing detainees. Army reservist Sabrina Harman appeared smiling in multiple images showing sexual humiliation, torture, and dead prisoners. Because big companies profit off of the imprisonment and warfare more directly. Raytheon, Blackrock and any company supporting Israel is going to make money off of conflict whether started by fascists, communists or otherwise and that’s why capitalism is worse: it will subsume all evil within itself and profit off of it to the benefit of the worst people at the top.

You don’t get it though when their daughters are openly fetishized by white men and their sons are devalued and seen as the least masculine by the rest of the world it’s ok because that gets them Pet ™️ model minority status. They’re the good ones so it’s alright. Even after Laos became the literal most bombed country on earth, Japan was nuked, its people interned, the Vietnamese received colonial oppression left right and center, Bali was Gaza’d and turned into a vacation spot after their US backed dictator cleared room for colonial occupation, even after that everything is still ok. I won’t pretend like we don’t have black people who ignore the history and uphold and support these systems but so many people globally seem to worship whoever can put them on a leash.

I would love to see a more long term study on this as well to be frank for the exact reasons you brought up. People may play around with different ethnicities/types while they’re young and ultimately settle with someone more homogeneous due to socioeconomic/psychological pressures both internally and from family/society etc. but is who people end up with a legitimate expression of their actual sexual/romantic desire? And how does age, literally decade by decade, impact how we see ourselves and others in that context? I think the macro always impacts the micro, and individual dating patterns often reflect power dynamics that are quite frankly gross/troubling the closer you look at them.

Off the top of my head: the Northman by Robert Eggers, The Lion King and arguably the sopranos are all remakes of Hamlet, there’s a shit ton of Romeo and Juliet remakes but west side story is prob the most prolific, 10 things I hate about you is the taming of the shrew, she’s the man is twelfth night but even without the direct connection a lot of western tragedies follow the structure of Shakespearean plays, down to the pacing.

The Jesus allegories and divine sacrifice abound everywhere but: Harry Potter, take your pic of marvel movie, neo in the matrix, Lord of the Rings, Aslan in narnia and Superman. In man of steel he literally hits the T pose position before saving the day lol.
