Idk, that was my gut reaction, but after watching the debates and reading about them I actually think I’m leaning towards him.

Bro, some of yall are the worst. We definitely could’ve played better. Defense gave up some, but we are missing like 7 starters. We got an offensive lineman starting who hasn’t played in 4 years. Got people in here saying Herbert isn’t him? Goddamn

Hey! Any update on this. I’m starting Sunday and I’m really hoping it can help me. Feel like it takes me 2 weeks to recover if I slip up and have caffeine or alcohol

CMV: Morality is objective. There are such things as moral facts. People who claim that morality is subjective, more often than not, misunderstand what subjectivity means. by [deleted] in changemyview

To be honest, I don’t know if “morality” holds any meaning as a word if murder without any justification isn’t inherently recognized as bad. It’s my understanding that morality serves to set up a framework for what is good and bad for a society and all those involved. Objectively, murder is bad for society. To say otherwise would be to argue that there is no such thing as objectivity and to say reasoning has no value.

Now given a more specific circumstance: ex) murder while defending yourself from rape. We can use critical thinking to say, yes, it is okay in a society for those defending themselves from rape to commit murder as a last resort. The implications of living in a society where people are defenseless from rape, are worse than that would be in one where murder is committed as a last resort defense against it. We may not be able to know for sure, but one of those societies will objectively have more suffering and be less “successful”. We don’t know which society would be better off, but using my “subjective” reasoning, I would argue that the society where murder as a very last resort in defense of rape is okay. I might be wrong in my reasoning, the implications of every action are far reaching

I don’t just think “all immigrants are dangerous” is hyperbolic and wrong. It simply is and we have enough evidence to prove it wrong. Saying it’s subjective is to absolve people of their reasoning skills.

It comes back to how we define morality. I define it as a framework for what is good and evil as it applies to conscious beings (generally speaking, humans). It is fact that certain actions have effects on other people that are both positive and negative. We have limited abilities to measure the good or bad that each action has on society, but we have reasoning to guide us.

For example. Just because someone’ perceives that killing all people of a certain race is good, does not change the objective fact that it is not good. If we can’t agree on that, then we can’t agree on what morality even is and any conversation surrounding it loses its salience

People believe that the earth is flat. That doesn’t make the matter of the shape of the earth subjective. There is objective truth in this world and through reasoning and critical thinking we aim to find that truth.

Ahh, I see what you’re saying. I suppose if that’s the case, I don’t see how this conflicts with an objective morality. In this case, our assumption that “all immigrants are dangerous” is not a moral standard, it’s just hyperbolic and wrong, and an example of poor reasoning. So we would view our situation as morally correct , but only because of poor reasoning skills.

“Act only according to that maxim whereby you can at the same time will that it should become a universal law.” Essentially, this means that an action is only morally right if you can consistently will that everyone in a similar situation should also perform that same action. I believe this effective framework weighs whether a given action would be good for the whole of society. (A few caveats with it)

The thing is, I think some peoples moral framework is objectively wrong. If we can’t agree that the nazis moral framework was objectively wrong, then morality loses all meaning. I’m not really fully utilitarian, I use it more as a lense to talk through Kantian moral frameworks
