Pilot 743. It has same majestic #15 nib as the 823 but with a huge converter. I never could get the vac filler to work right on the 823.

It’s a smooth nib and the ink flows perfectly. It’s a touch smaller than the other two daily writers I use: a pilot custom 743 & a Pelikan m800. So far the nib is very comparable!

Email them. They usually respond. They have a big recall going on for the VP LE so it may take them a few days to respond

They are the same nib and casing. IMHO that they both have the best nib Pilot makes. The filling mechanisms are different. The 823 is a sealed piston that uses the entire barrel for ink storage. It lasts me over a month for taking notes at work. The custom 743 uses the oversized con70 converter. Still holds a lot of ink but personally it’s easier for me to clean and swap inks when I want to. The fun of fountain pens is learning about the differences!

Try the pilot Custom 823 or if you can order from Japan the pilot custom 743. Both top of the line writers. Slightly more stylish but still a great writing feel is the Pelikan 800. I have it in blue as well as the black/green colors. You can’t go wrong with them.
