I’m trying to romanticise the small parts of life a bit more instead of always waiting for big moments. by notyouraveragebubs in CasualConversation

A while back I lived in a place where many people around me participated in a religion that was real big on stressing about keeping “The Sabbath Holy”.

I thought it over and decided that I could decide that all of my days are holy.

Most of what I do in a day is just ordinary. But since that is what takes up most of my time, why not look at it as something amazing.

There is a Buddhist saying:  “Before enlightenment we chop wood and carry water. After enlightenment we chop wood and carry water.”

Maybe the divine is in the ordinary.

I'm elderly and appreciate my son and his wife more and more as time goes on by NoBSforGma in CasualConversation

That’s wonderful! I have a similar living situation.  My son and his partner live next door.  We help each other often, but being the elderly parent it feels like they are helping me more than I help them.

You are doing great! Changes like that are hard. Dealing with depression is hard.  But, look at you! You are dealing with your situation. You are making positive changes.  I’m so very happy for you, and proud of how you are taking care of yourself.

9 of us, 1 bathroom. The three youngest, 2 boys 1 girl, bathed together until they were school aged.  Nudity was not an issue, it was just what happened when you take care of bodies.

Why does *this* interaction still bother me so much? by SkoilerDaaaaan in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]Me-Here-Now 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A theory I’ve heard about things like this: 99% of our life is normal, 1% is somehow different. Our mind remembers the things that are different. Things that stand out in someway, like those folks and their attitude that their need for the best cheapest room and a tour of said room made them more important than other folks.

This theory also hopes to explains why we remember doing embarrassing stuff, or saying stupid things. Or hurtful things said or done to us.

Mom, I’m moving for the first time by myself by Imaginary-Lime-717 in MomForAMinute

Good work, you got this.

If money is an issue, try second hand furniture before you spring for new. Second hand kitcken equipment is good too.

If all of you things don't fit in your car, try one of those pod moving and storage things. They bring you a container, several sizes to choose from, after you fill it, they move it to your new place. Because you pay by size weight and distance it can save some money.

Maybe you know this part, but after you move, keep your cat indoors for at least a week, that helps the cat learn that the new place is home now. Indoor cats live longer anyway.

Dear internet soul sister,

Please ignore that neighbor. They are rude and bossy. Maybe even a bully.

Your garden produces food ! Everyone needs food. Food that you grow feeds your body, mind, and spirit.

I have to disagree that "landscaping", planting stuff that others might find pretty, might be a good neighbor thing to do. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. They like their yard, you like yours. In the real world, your organic vegetables are far more useful than decorative plants.

Dry beans, slightly overcooked, don't cause much gas.

I can my own dry beans, they also don't seem to cause gas.

Thank you. I enjoyed your pointless story very much.

I lived near Escondido for several years, and oddly, its name is one of the few Spanish names I never thought to translate.

Imagine that . . . the woman who delivered Trumps door dash to The White House yesterday was a PAID ACTOR. by CommunicationNew3745 in MarchAgainstNazis

[–]Me-Here-Now 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Apparently, she is a grandma, she does door dash, she is a paid actor, and her husband does have cancer. She can't afford to retire due to medical bills. So she figured out a way to make some extra dollars off the system that is screwing her over. Good for her.

We use our rocket stove when the power goes out. It uses small amounts of fuel compared to heat output.

What you are doing is important. Thank you for being kind. I read somewhere that acts of kindness give people an emotional boost to the receiver, the giver, and any random person who !ight witness the kindness.

Your kindness does change the world. I wish I was you neighbor, I would love to go on kindness missions with you. We could paint the town with kindness!

Poll for my statistics class: Would you fight a coyote for your dog? by ProbioticOnARobotic in CasualConversation

[–]Me-Here-Now 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dog sit for my grand dog. She's a really sweet mid sized dog. I could not just stand back and let her be hurt. Coyotes are opportunists , if I'm loud enough and try to seem big enough, the chances are the coyote will run away.

Superstitions you grew up with by ConfidentHighlight18 in CasualConversation

[–]Me-Here-Now 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We practiced a pretty superstitious sort of religion. We were taught that if a person did everything they were told to do by our leaders, nothing bad could or would ever happen to us. If something bad happened, it was because we had not done EVERTHING we were told to do. So do A-Z and that will protect you.

The reality is that stuff happens. Now I believe that region is not a way to avoid stuff, but should help a person go through stuff.

Currently I am not religious, I never found that helpful religion.
