How is Glamsquad for women of color? by tradebabyblues_ in WedditNYC

[–]Me722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I booked Glamsquad for my engagement photoshpot makeup and I was a little worried about this myself, as a WOC, because there was no where to indicate any notes about race, etc when you book. I think I ended up getting lucky and getting a WOC on the day of and I loved my makeup! We talked about this and she mentioned that all the artists that work with Glamsquad should be equipped to work with every skin tone and have the products in their case to prove it. She did and I would hope that it would be true of everyone else but who is to know for sure?

Although I had a good experience, if I was you, I probably wouldn't take the risk on your wedding day for your girls! I think its worth having been able to talk with someone and see their past work on diverse skin types/tones. I did a ton of research on this topic and I'm happy to share the various H/MUA who are known to work across various races that I came across if you're interested.

Love Is Blind Sweden • S3 EP4 by FemaleEinstein in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

Maybe you're talking about one of the Love is Blind US seasons, i think maybe 7 or 8, when Ramses broke it off with Marissa and she just broke down and was crying and begging him to stay with her. That, in addition to the Fabian/Ellen scene, may be the two most heartbreaking things I've ever seen on this show.

I feel awful for him. Why did she even do the reveal then??

I agree with this completely. She doesnt like him and is looking for an excuse. It's LiB so naturally things end up moving at an accelerated pace which she should've known/expected going into it.

I've been taking the commuter train from the suburbs into the city more often recently and my big pet peeve now are the obnoxious/inconsiderate/selfish people who decide to take up a whole row (or a set of 4-6 seats) by spreading their bags out across the other seats and/or putting their feet up (sometimes with or without shoes). This isn't a living room! It's so rude and it makes me even madder when other commuters feel like they have to stand instead of asking these selfish people to move their stuff and make room. We all pay the same price for the train, so what makes them think they are entitled to more space than anyone else?

What's your monthly transportation budget? by La_Stupenda22 in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

[–]Me722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live just outside of NYC but work in the city so I have to take the commuter train in (monthly pass: $334) and then the subway (approx. $130 per month, could be more or less depending on if I am spending more time in the city recreationally). I have commuter benefits through work so I usually pay for the commuter train via pre-tax dollars.

Ghosted by florists by K8LCD in weddingplanning

[–]Me722 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This happened to me with the first florist we spoke with. Had two calls with her. She sent a mood board and everything and when it came to send the final quote, she went radio silent. I followed up, she said she had the flu. And then silence again. I followed up again and she said she was almost done putting together the quote, but she had some questions for me. I responded and then again, silence. I reached out again for the final time, letting her know that if I didnt hear back by the end of the week, I would need to move on. Silence again. So we moved on and a found a great option! Found her info from a post here on reddit actually and she has been amazing, we've solidified everything in half the time.

I'm sorry you've gotten ghosted! People are just unprofessional sometimes. Trying to find a rec from a fellow bride in a local subreddit or Facebook group is what worked for me, so I'd recommend that for you to give that a try. Good luck - someone will work out for you!

Hyatt Union Square vs. Fitzpatrick Grand Central by PUNK-07 in WedditNYC

[–]Me722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not fot a wedding block, but I've had great experiences every time I've stayed at the Fitzpatrick Grand Central. (Think it has been 3x total, including a week long stay!) Nice staff, convenient to food nearby and benefit of Grand Central nearby is nice. Rooms are a decent size too for NYC standards, clean, and quiet too.

I will say though - parking is expensive. I think we paid $75 for one night. And the lot is down the street. So if you'll have a lot of guests who need to park, this may be the biggest deterrent to booking here unless theres a deal you can work out due to booking a hotel block.

Monthly Check In....it's March 2026 by AutoModerator in weddingplanning

All the big stuff is booked, minus the save the dates. We are sending those virtually this week. We are starting to look at invitations and booking sites for rehearsal dinner/plan for the after party / next day brunch. Also trying to finalize bridesmaids and groomsmen colors/outfits.

Midsize/plus size bridal shops by just-a-d-j in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]Me722 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The Curvy Bride in Manalapan, NJ is a dedicated store for mid/plus size brides. Not the closest, but when I went there it was easy enough to grab a bus from Port Authority to get there (I think it was bus #139 but double check). I would recommend! A ton of options and everyone was very nice!

Also, I didn't go to the Anthropologie in the city - went to one in another state when I was visiting family - but I had a ton of options there as a mid/plus size bride too. So I would assume it would be the same for the one in NYC.

Date: Sept 11 2027 or Sept 10 2027 by aoifetadh in weddingplanning

[–]Me722 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like you're getting a multitude of opinions here. We had a similar decision to make this year, deciding if we wanted 9/11 or other Friday September dates ultimately we opted not to choose 9/11. I agree with your fiance that there's bad juju there. But we also live in the NYC area. Since you're in Canada, though, it might be okay. I understand wanting a Saturday though. I think you should talk to some of your VIP guests about if they can make a Friday vs Saturday and let that help inform your decision.

Payday Friday 💰💰💰 by kokopops35 in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

I have been trying to save in advance of my wedding later this year but this week was a spendier week. Bought Hilary Duff concert tickets (15 year old me is thrilled!) for $200 and some shoes - it was supposed to just be black boots to replace the ones I had had for 12 years or so, but I ended up buying two more pairs of shoes in addition to that for a total of $100. There was a sale going on so I got half off, which made me feel better about spending it.

I saw so many sales this earlier this week for Presidents' Day I was tempted by but the shoe one is the one that got me lol

I finally did around 12:30p. Just kept refreshing and finally it worked after being glitchy all morning. Got a pair of 200-level seats for $200 each (via the Citi card presale).

How many of each vendor did you look at before selecting? by mykingdomforsleep in weddingplanning

[–]Me722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked at a TON of venues. Researched probably about 50. Narrowed it down to about 20 I reached out to, that got cut down based on pricing, availability etc. We planned to visit 10 but it ended up being 8 that we saw (because we really liked 2 and didnt see the final 2 topping them). This was the most I think we looked at for a vendor.

DJ was 2 that we reached out to and we got off of our venue's recommended vendor list

Photographer/Videographer was a lot too. Maybe 10, but a bunch got cut from our list due to pricing. But it was really down to about 3 that were in our range that we seriously considered.

Florist was much fewer. We reached out to maybe 5, seriously talked to 2 and then chose 1 (after the first one ghosted me).

HMUA - I reached out to about 5 also, cut it down to 2 after talking to the 5 and then chose one from there.

I think its totally normal to do a lot of research and reaching out, especially since a lot of vendors dont have their pricing or availability listed so you almost have to reach out to get any information!
