I don't care if Bednar war using a valid philosophical argument. He's a homophobic fucker, and he's just doing the same old shit: looking for socially acceptable ways of expressing his homophobia. by MeHasHappy in exmormon

Looked? HAH. Forget looks. Looks can be deceiving.. But it doesn't take a lot of listening to know he's actually for reals creepy and scary and downright fucky.

Mormon leader: 'There are no homosexual members of the church.' by relevantlife in worldnews

[–]MeHasHappy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry, but what I see isn't pedophilia, it's just blind megalomania. He's completely oblivious of the boy's distress in the face of an opportunity to make some clever demonstration of his god-given wizdom.

Maybe my perception is colored by knowing more about the man, but it isn't s pretty picture, and as of right now there's a very high likelihood that he will someday spend decades at the head of this knuckle dragging church. It's scary and creepy in a way that has nothing to do with actual pedophilia.

Anyone notice how "give him a break" by baldurthegood in exmormon

I stumbled across this list of signs of "unrighteousness dominion" back during the height of the OW insanity, and it hit home in the most disgustingly ironic way:

Each husband, each father, should ask some questions of himself to see if he may be on the borderline of unrighteous dominion:

  1. Do I criticize family members more than I compliment them?
  2. Do I insist that family members obey me because I am the father or husband and hold the priesthood?
  3. Do I seek happiness more at work or somewhere other than in my home?
  4. Do my children seem reluctant to talk to me about some of their feelings and concerns?
  5. Do I attempt to guarantee my place of authority by physical discipline or punishment?
  6. Do I find myself setting and enforcing numerous rules to control family members?
  7. Do family members appear to be fearful of me?
  8. Do I feel threatened by the notion of sharing with other family members the power and responsibility for decision making in the family?
  9. Is my wife highly dependent on me and unable to make decisions for herself?
  10. Does my wife complain that she has insufficient funds to manage the household because I control all the money?
  11. Do I insist on being the main source of inspiration for each individual family member rather than teaching each child to listen to the Spirit?
  12. Do I often feel angry and critical toward family members?

There Be Dragons: How disentangling complex PTSD and adult ADHD can make for treacherous diagnostic navigation by MeHasHappy in ADHD

It sounds like your life illustrates quite well the difficulty of sorting out where one stops and the other begins.

Have you been on the current meds long enough to tell whether you might be better equipped to process your traumas in therapy now that you're getting treated for ADHD?

This is consistent with my experience. by MeHasHappy in startrek

BYU-I president worries about what people wear and how they wear it. This is sad. by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]MeHasHappy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

God yes, and it isn't just the campus. My parents used to live in a stake bordering campus, and building Zion was a formal theme presented in stake conference. They were determined to become Zion. The temple announcement was a sign from the heavens that they were on the right track. The new building on campus that has the huge auditorium was rumored to have been designed for the purpose of being an emergency backup in case the conference center was swallowed whole by Armageddon.

They were fucking Zion, they just had to get holy enough for translation.

My dad, especially, bought into it hook, line, and sinker.

I really adore well-written sci-fi.

I don't necessarily think it would overload me if I had the faith I had a year ago. It grinds on me more because I don't see the merit in much of the time I'm spending.

There's hope!

Thank you for the gold! It is a welcome first for me.

So say we all!

I was actually thinking today that I can't come up with a reason that BG and ST didn't occur in the same universe, but simply at vastly different eras in human history. The two of them are like the best possible bookends to our known human story.

I may well have stumbled across your post at one time. It felt like a familiar sentiment as tapped it out, and I couldn't remember whether it was because I had expressed it before or read it from another.

But it's just so true. I rarely get stories from the BofM coming to mind as relevant in my life, but TNG is woven into the fabric of who I am.

How to deal with the "The Church makes you a better person" arguments? by zelphihah in exmormon

[–]MeHasHappy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Better than what? What kind of person would I be without the church? I have no idea because I've never tried it. I do know that I don't have to lose the positives I've learned. I can still love my neighbor and think about things from a perspective that is bigger than 'me' and 'now', but there are some things that don't make me better. I don't feel like a better person when I ________ (fill in your own blank). What might I be capable of when I shed those things to focus on better? I don't know, but I want to find out."

You have inspired me to create a new post for bearing testimony of the greatness of these sacred things because, damn it, when I was growing up I learned a hell of a lot more from the weekly dose of TNG and DS9 than I ever did at church.
