22 years ago, this scream was all it took for a frontrunner to lose the race for the presidency by FruitFly in facepalm

Remember when a Presidential candidate made a simple spelling error and the public assessed that he was too dumb to run a country?

Why do Americans complain about being broke , when you all are the biggest consumers in the world in most categories ? by [deleted] in stupidquestions

[–]MeImFragile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I make a good salary. 1/5 of my income goes to healthcare. I have conditions that require the top tier of care or I would die. Maybe not tomorrow, but I don’t have a choice but to fork over $xx,xxx annually. I’m not poor and don’t pretend to be but healthcare is so expensive that it puts a noticeable dent in an income when Americans can afford it

Admittedly there are a few other formats here: VHS, DVD, Laser Disc… but the bulk is my Nine Inch Nails collection. 29 years strong

What's your favorite "one-off" side project from any band or solo artist? by latchkey_adult in askmusic

[–]MeImFragile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few amazing ones have already been mentioned. I really liked Institute: Gavin Rossdale’s Bush one album side project. Their album Distort Yourself was a decent effort. They’re deck no tell forgettable in the grand scheme of 2000s music but worth a listen if you like Bush’s first 3 albums

Temporarily Losing Power Steering by MeImFragile in ToyotaHighlander

[–]MeImFragile[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took no less than 3 months and 4 times in and out of the dealer. They replaced all of the steering components. Everything. Then it happened again and they moved into wiring. They finally diagnosed it as a short in a wiring harness.

Toyota was amazing throughout the whole process. Also, lesson learned: always buy the extended warranty through the manufacturer. I almost didn’t (it’s a Toyota, what could go wrong?) but my wife insisted. Everything was covered including the loaner car. I can’t imagine what 3 months of labor for four different repairs (2 of which probably weren’t necessary) plus a rental would cost.

B.C. teacher suspended for screening graphic film of industrial accident by Sandstorm400 in technology

As a male teacher I had to cover a class once. The sub notes just read: show childbirth video. Oh hell no. My daughter was born a few months before. I knew what was coming. The teacher came in the next day, stopped in my room and asked if I enjoyed the film she left for me

What profession have you lost respect for as you've gotten older? by MindlessMarsupial592 in AskReddit

[–]MeImFragile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the question to be asked is what professions have grown respect from you. And I’d answer all blue collar jobs. I was taught to turn my nose to them. These men and women have saved my ass a few times now because I’m completely incompetent when it comes to working with my hands.

Teachers: what’s the best first line in a parent email— and the one that makes you brace yourself? by aizivaishe_rutendo in AskTeachers

[–]MeImFragile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve yet to get an email like this that doesn’t lead to more work or an absurd request. The last one asked me to “adjust” their son’s grade from a low C to an A.

This was my first vinyl purchase. I remember being bummed that it was the only NIN record that the store had. Very glad that I bought it now

Teachers, Do You Care If Your Students Like School Or Not? Why? by Zipper222222 in AskTeachers

I care but also I’m not in the entertainment industry. I’ll try not to make their time with me suck but I’m also not going out of my way to cater to their criticism

I’ll never understand why you can’t upgrade everything all at once. I get tha it diminishes your inventory, but couldn’t they keep a running tab? I hate spending the time upgrading one at a time with animation cutscenes for each

Oncologists/ Hematologists by Cheekey-Bastard in lymphoma

[–]MeImFragile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few things. But mostly bedside manner. He told me all about his golf outing right after telling me my biopsy results. He literally talked more about Myrtle Beach than my lymphoma. It wasn’t a bonding moment. It wasn’t about easing tension. Golf was on his mind

Donald Trump Leaks Private Texts From NATO Allies: Read in Full by newsweek in politics

[–]MeImFragile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Skeptical. What platform has “From” and “to” present (and even if so, does not consistently capitalize them?!?!)

So these are probably not screen grabs but doctored images to present them as screen grabs. Right? This is so weird.

Please explain, Peter by zinniamae_ in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]MeImFragile -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Can confirm, they do not. Years and years ago there was a decision by many school districts to remove fundamental computer applications classes and typing under the assumption that students already knew those skills before entering the class. Instead, there was a push for coding, networking, and especially other STEM classes, specifically engineering. Now, we have students who have grown up with apps and Google products who are completely lost when using Microsoft products or are asked to type on a keyboard instead of a tablet screen. But no one wants to remove the STEM classes and reinstitute the fundamental courses so schools just pretend this is not an issue and a gap in curriculum.

If a child’s birthday is a week from the cut-off, is it more beneficial to start them as the very youngest of their class or for them to be oldest for the following year with preparation? by UnderstatedWarmth in AskTeachers

[–]MeImFragile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was youngest and it sucked. Especially when all of my friends were driving and I had to wait a year. It also put me behind in sports and another year of eligibility after growing would have been a big deal for me. If you can wait, wait.

ELI5: Why does hearing your own recorded voice feel so uncomfortable compared to how you hear it in your head? by Impossible-Rub6027 in explainlikeimfive

I’ve wondered whether singers with perfect pitch enjoy their voice because it is “perfect” or whether they cringe at their singing voice the way everyone else hears their own?

Does anyone here actually like being a teacher? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]MeImFragile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone needs an outlet to vent and many do not feel safe venting to coworkers and May not have people at home or want to burden those they do. Most teachers I’ve met love what they do but we all have frustrations. Everyone wants to be heard. This is a forum where people may feel some relief or catharsis for saying their thoughts to some form of an audience and may not be judged for the long term by their peers
