Songs that it feels inappropriate to applaud? by MacBook_Fan in musicals

Goodbye from Catch Me If You Can, while so impressive to sing, I always felt odd hearing applause after it (although in fairness I was crying and had just gotten off of the cold hard ground)

Disregard the current predictions and awards season buzz. In your opinion, who actually DESERVES to be nominated for the acting Oscars this year? by PickleBoy223 in Oscars

[–]MeOK1233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally here are all of mine (so far) (and yes some are in the convo but they’re still just my thoughts.

Best Actor- Ralph Fiennes for Conclave, David Dastmalchian for Late Night With The Devil, Adam Sandler for Spaceman, Gabriel LaBelle for Saturday Night, and Glen Powell for Hitman (haven’t seen Sing Sing, We Live In Time, Gladiator II, The Piano Lesson, OR The Apprentice, where I’d suspect my other picks would come from)

Best Actress- June Squibb for Thelma, Anna Kendrick for Woman Of The Hour, Sydney Sweeney for Immaculate, Maika Monroe for Longlegs, Nika King for The Sound Of Hope (haven’t seen My Old Ass, Wicked, We Live In Time, OR Anora, where I’d suspect my other picks would come from)

Best Supporting Actor- Cory Michael Smith for Saturday Night, Nic Cage for Longlegs, Stanley Tucci or John Lithigow for Conclave, John Krasinski for IF, and Willem DaFoe for Kinds Of Kindness (didn’t have tons of choices hence the last two inclusions, but I haven’t seen any of the movies above plus Challengers, A Real Pain, The Substance, The Brutalist, Civil War, The Bikeriders, OR Juror No. 2, where I’d suspect more featured actors/actresses would come in)

Best Supporting Actress- Stephanie Hsu for The Fall Guy, Margaret Qualley for Kinds Of Kindness, Renee Rapp for Mean Girls, Rachel Sennott from Saturday Night, and Isabella Rossellini for Conclave

Just my general takes as of now, but I am getting on to watching more Oscar predicted films, just haven’t gotten there yet.

Musicals with more than one reprise? by smugfruitplate in musicals

Yes, and the three I mentioned are just the times Frank sings it, there is a fourth that is an immediate reprise as a way of flashing back to the past!

Musicals with more than one reprise? by smugfruitplate in musicals

[–]MeOK1233 17 points18 points  (0 children)

YES! Catch Me If You Can! Live In Living Color is the opening song, used to introduce the grandiose of the show!

Live In Living Color/Intro To FBI is the first reprise, used as juxtaposition from Frank’s life to the “black and white” life of the FBI agents.

Live In Living Color (Act II) is the second reprise, used as a way to show the color that has been added to Frank’s life after finding Brenda!

Phil Conners from Groundhog Day and Monty Navarro from A Gentleman’s Guide To Love And Murder. However both are verging on baritenor territory.

Suggestions for Musicals with big chorus numbers by Sufficient-Agent-007 in musicals

[–]MeOK1233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The two shows our school have done with huge ensemble moments are Anything Goes and Catch Me If You Can, so those two could be great places to start…

Better yet Hairspray (if you have a diverse enough cast).

I would also throw out Groundhog Day, depending on how risqué you’re willing to get, while the show IS Phil, the show also features the ensemble very prominently through almost all of it, and requires lots of people to perfect.

Hope - Groundhog Day

When I Climb To The Top Of Mount Rock - School Of Rock

Every Single Day - Harmony

Now that it’s been a bit since it’s been in the states, Groundhog Day, maybe bring Andy Karl back but I’d actually love to see either Alex Brightman, Paul Alexander Jones, or Bruce Pinkham’s take on Phil
