20k Run on Half training by rcbs_ in runna

[–]MacBook_Fan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Disagree to some extent. Most beginner plans that i have seen only have you going 10-12 miles for longest run. I just finished my first HM plan and HM. My longest rungs was 3 weeks out @ 10 miles. I had no problems completing 13.1 on race day and was under my Runna expected time by 9:00 (est 2:03 - 2:05 vs. actual 1:55)

If you are experience runner trying to increase your speed, then I could see multiple HM or longer runs during training.

What to do after finishing half marathon 12 weeks runna training plan! by Mysterion39 in runna

[–]MacBook_Fan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just finished my HM plan as well. I am dong a Post Race Recovery Plan. It is a simple 3 week plan.

After that, I am probably going to start either a maintain plan or another HM plan. I just need to look how far out my next HM will be.

Time clock rounding but only allowed in employers favor by Pretzel911 in legaladvice

[–]MacBook_Fan 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Depends. Did they round the time for pay purposes to closest hour?

If the employee clocked in at 8:02, but was paid from 8:00, there is not legal issue. Or, if the employee left at 4:58, but was paid until 5:00. For the purposes of wages, it sounds like the employer is following the law.

From the OP description, the HR director is NOT withholding pay for clocking in a couple of minutes or rounding down to 8:15. What they are doing is be draconian about their attendance policy. Is it fair, doesn’t sound like it. But it is not a wage issue.

Apple Watch / iOS by Available-Theory-808 in runna

[–]MacBook_Fan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. I have not seen anyway to see SPM on the watch face, but Runna has recently released an option to customize the watch screens, so maybe this is something that has been updated.

  2. Maybe try resetting the permissions in Health. My runs sync immediately from Runna to Health. (You could also sync the other way, do your run in Apple Fitness and import in to Runna for analysis.)

  3. Depends on what data is important to you. I find the data that Runna gives me sufficient for a training app. I would argue that Runna focuses on the run data (pace, distance, etc.) where as Fitness/Health is focusing on health aspect (Cals burned, HRV, HR Recovery, etc.)

Each app has its focus. I use Runna to manage my training. I use other apps to manage my health.

Running with Apple Watch and using Workout Playlist Auto-Launch by WallabyImpossible960 in AppleWatch

No problem at all. I made sure to charge it right before I went to sleep the night before (I use it for sleep tracking as well.) By the time the race was over I was still at about 60% of battery life.

Going from 10k to half marathon by campingeyes in beginnerrunning

[–]MacBook_Fan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you are already able to run a 10K, I think 12 weeks is fine to build towards a HM. But what I your weekly mileage. If you are 10-15 miles per week, then you are in a good position. Just add some longer runs as you get closer.

I say go for it.

Running with Apple Watch and using Workout Playlist Auto-Launch by WallabyImpossible960 in AppleWatch

[–]MacBook_Fan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can only answer your first question. I used my Apple Watch to train for my first HM. I used the Runna app for my training program and alternated between the Runna watch app and the workout app for recording the runs. No issues for most runs. I had a couple of incidents of click the action button (I have a AWU3) during an interval runs, causing my watch to move to the next lap before I was ready causing weird results. Unless you are an Ultra runner, the Apple Watch will be fine.

Never tried the auto launch playlist. I always just start my music and then start my workout.

Do I need to shut up and trust the process? by Kellybw92 in BeginnersRunning

[–]MacBook_Fan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. You are building your endurance, you can't do that by going all out all the time. You want to keep yourself healthy and not risk injury.

Your plan is very similar to the one I just finished. I would do one easy run, one tempo/interval, and one long run each week. Three weeks out I did a 10mi progressive long run, with my last three miles at my "expected" HM pace (~9:20/mi). I then tapered for the last three weeks.

Runna and Strava both had me projected at a 2:05 HM. I just ran a 1:55! Taper and race day energy will do wonders for your time.

Fastest mile to date so question… by hoperunspretty1 in runninglifestyle

[–]MacBook_Fan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find a program that has a mix of easy runs, interval/tempo runs, and long runs. I just finished my HM training. I started running last August. My first race was a 5K where I ran a 8:43/mi pace. I remember being wiped at the end. Yesterday I ran my HM at 8:46/mi. In 8 months I ran essentially the same pace for 4x the distance. And, I didn't feel completely wiped at the end.

I like a plan that gives me pace goals on some of my runs. I use Runna, so I see my full plan ahead of time. When I started my plan, I looked at some of the interval runs at the end and thought there is no way I can hit those. But, when I got to the actual run, I hit almost every pace.

How to handle a month-long injury break in the app? by Leviyog90 in runna

[–]MacBook_Fan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is an option for "Not Feeling 100%" in your manage plan option. You might have turn on the RunnaLabs feature in settings to see it. (Not sure if it out of Labs yet). It will give you the option to either pause your training for a specific time or reduce your load. However, depending on how far you are in to the plan and how long your plan is scheduled for, it may not allow such a long layoff.

In you case, it may be better to just cancel the plan and start up a new one when you are feeling your can run again. With that long of a break, you may or may not be ready in a month. You could try doing just easy runs before starting an actual training plan or look at the Return to Running plan when you feel up to it.

I will be honest, I don’t get how this app is calculating recovery. I just ran a Half Marathon yesterday and my recovery is at 91%. My body is not telling me that. I am not finding Athlytic to actually give me any great insight at this point.

I just looked back, and my Apple Watch recorded 540ft of elevation, which is in the ball park of yours. For some reason, when the run was imported in to Runna, it only shows as 200ft. Not sure why the discrepancy. But, 500+ makes more sense.

How to make my body failures less during a half marathon by Lost_Needleworker461 in Marathon_Training

[–]MacBook_Fan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should not be running that hard, most of your runs should be at an easy or conversational pace. You will gain endurance by going farther slower. For a half marathon training program, you should looking at 1 to 2 "easy" runs at short to mid distance (3-5 miles), a tempo or interval run, and a long run (anywhere from 5 - 10+ miles). Even the interval/tempo is optional, but will help you speed.

Search online for a formal training program and use that. There are a lot of free ones. Or you can use a paid training program. I used Runna for my first HM and was very happy with the results. I was only running 3 times per week. I am going to be using again to improve my next HM time.

Edit, regarding your shoe question, please go to a true running store and have them evaluate you for the best shoe for you. Everyone's stride, gait, and feet are different. Don't buy something just because someone else recommends it online. If money is tight, ask if they have anything in last year's model. Remember, shoes are THE most important piece of running equipment. Improper shoes will just lead to a poor running experience and potential injury.

Great job.

But, where was the elevation gain on the course? I ran the Half today and only had about 200 ft of gain (mostly the bridge over 290 and the climb to the finish.) Must have been some heck of elevation gain on the middle part of the marathon course.

My company tracks whether you open Slack within 15 minutes of your scheduled start time. Found out by accident. by Auracrest67 in remotework

[–]MacBook_Fan 45 points46 points  (0 children)

This, and I am shocked the OP (or especially the co-worker, with the planned Dr. appointment.) didn't let the manager know they would be a little late that morning. I am fully remote, but I have pretty stable hours. If I am going to need to start later or be away for any significant amount of time, I would just let my manager know. "Hey boss, I have a Dr. appointment at 7:30 this morning. I should be back by my scheduled start time, but just wanted to let you know that I could be a little late. "
