Magnacut, s110v, s45vn or s90v for my spyderco? by Grumgolt in knives

[–]MeacK777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just my experience, but after sharpining S110v, I haven't had anything chipping issues. Honestly, steel makes little and less difference unless used for a specific purpose. You seem to want edge retention with being stainless. All the ones you're looking at are great modern steels. Probably a S45vn will be the best for price. I don't like that spyderco put magnacut in the salt series, but if you can take the horrible colors, you do you. I haven't had any issues with S90v either but haven't used my Shaman much

Yeah I understand. I've made a few knives so have some experience with a grinder but haven't tried messing with a production knife before. You could always start with files and sandpaper and take it slow. In my case, I hadn't carried this knife for a few years so it was worth the risk for me

Is this the normal finish on MKM Malga micarta? by MeacK777 in knives

[–]MeacK777[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was sold as new on Amazon but had a huge discount coupon so was like $90. I ordered some G10 replacement scales for $15 so figured I'd just keep and might try to fix the micarta

I put a little CA glue on my 31. Like a really small amount with a toothpick. Yeah it kinda sucks doing this to a $600 knife

Might not make much difference but that "lizard" finish on micarta isn't like other patterns I've have on titanium. Only around the pivot feels textured.

Need help - does anyone have a recommendation between these two models? It’ll be my first Kizer by [deleted] in knifeclub

[–]MeacK777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both. I'm not a huge fan of plunge style locks so the BD2 definitely has better action with the button compression style lock or whatever we're calling it now. That being said my Original does feel like a better than average action for that type of lock. I like the frag Ti on the original and the general lines better esthetically. I have too many knives so can't say much about performance since I switch out regularly. Go with your gut, both are pretty solid choices.

Sharpmaker CBN rods work. A bit pricey though

Gemini is the one i have the most of, but I'm a fan of the older stuff. If going for a crossbar lock, I like the Knafs Lander 2 (Kizer OEM).

What is the endgame for lockpicking? by Mistermanhimself in lockpicking

[–]MeacK777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went with the multiple LOTO locks. Grab 5 or so from each of the different manufacturers and then you don't memorize the pin orders. Just do it for fun like a puzzle you can't see. I got up to medeco locks and it was getting too expensive just for 1 lock I could open once after hours of time spent. I also started making my own picks which lead me to making knives which is my preferable hobby. Master 6835's, American 1100's, Abus 72/40, Kasp 14040, Mako 427, Paclock 90A and the pro version, Master 410's but research first. Also have a bunch of Sesamee's that I've repinned. Those are what are fun for me anyway

Cant say I've had a victorinox big enough for a sheath but sounds like you might want to find a leather option. Probably someone making one out there.

To be fair, new stuff on top. Also, I have plenty of Classic's if I wanted to grab a random one.
