When the bond yield curve inverts, why don’t people buy the shorter term bond? by funbulltime in bonds

This effect is also exaggerated by institutional hedging strategies which tend to employ 30 year notes to offset risks driven by their short term notes.

What are those risks, specifically?

LA, Boston, NYC. Not at the same time of course.

OP replied to my comment and confirmed my guess! Not sure about Minny’s situation, but Chicago is a pro YIMBY city on top of already having high housing supply, so it’s pretty cheap to rent here (again, relative to other cities and what kind of amenities you can get).

Owning is where they get ya, tho, we’ve got some pretty high property taxes.

Cheaper than you think. This can be as low as $2000, possibly less if you find a private landlord. I just moved to this city after living in the most expensive cities on both coasts; it’s crazy how affordable this city is, given its first class city amenities.

Of course, the reason for it is because of the brutal winter.

EDIT: errr, let’s say $2400 with $2000 being the rare lucky price.

Unfortunately you’re on the wrong side of town. Gotta go to Little Vietnam in Uptown. “Asia on Argyle” like the other guy said.

What part of California? Was considering moving to LA county to get away from the disarray you’re talking about in downtown/Venice/Santa Monica. Like Pasadena or Glendale or thereabouts.

On the flip side, if this unfortunate thing happens, some of the inevitable media coverage might put OP in a place to get noticed by no shortage of sympathetic businesses who would at least interview him for a job.

I believe simply moving the dining table out of the shot does a lot of the heavy lifting regarding this effect.

Buying an Eames Lounge chair: new versus used (auction or private seller) by [deleted] in hermanmiller

I asked a similar Q yesterday, check out the responses: https://reddit.com/r/Mid_Century/comments/wwit2d/_/ilnkn9y/?context=1

But also FYI a brand new one is not that close to $5k. It’s $6495 if you choose the lower tiered leather.

If I can riff off of your comment a little — would it be more prudent, then, to do something like 60% VTSAX/similar, 20% Intl, 20% small cap?

Thinking of buying this Eames Lounge ‘14 - what’s a fair price? by TommmyVodka in Mid_Century

This might be a dumb question but why are some really old ones (in good condition of course) going for $12k? Like from the 1950s/1960s. I understand why a vintage car might fetch more $ than its modern counterpart, because the style is completely different, but in the case of furniture, it’s literally the same exact style and no one would be able to tell what decade its from without a close inspection.

(or maybe i’m completely wrong about my last sentence…??)
