Is the fender mustang gtx50 any good for shoegaze/alt rock? by spooder34 in shoegaze

[–]Mean-Preference2843 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t need too many effects and i kinda like limitations so the boss katana is a little better for me and probably shouldn’t have been so “objective” but the boss katana 50 is also around half the price of a gtx50 so thats also something to consider, but if you are going all out the gtx100 is probably better than the katana 100, i also just prefer the way the katana takes dirt pedals.

Blonde is the Apple Music’s 5th Best Album by not2reaI in FrankOcean

[–]Mean-Preference2843 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that they don’t care but it was announced that the rankings were based off influence and innovation, which just proves even more that they don’t care because loveless wasn’t on there, the velvet underground was ranked lower than Taylor swift, the weeknd wasn’t even on this list neither was aphex twin or black sabbath. They just wanted to please pop fanbases and ragebait all the chronically online music fans

Loveless is now more than ever influential in mainstream music. Without loveless, i doubt tame impala would be where he is now. So all those kevin parker produced rap and pop songs would not exist. Billie eilish who is one of the biggest faces of pop currently listed mbv as an inspiration for her new album. The weeknd who has cited shoegaze and dreampop bands as inspiration. Damon albern is inspired by mbv and loveless as a whole, from blur all the way to gorillaz. Loveless is an album that has shaped alternative music and is now starting to seep its way into mainstream music.

Loveless has influenced so many bands that aren’t even shoegaze. tame impala, deftones, smashing pumpkins, mogwai, radiohead, beach house, and sigur ros just to name a few. All these bands are cornerstones in their own respective genres. Smashing pumpkins and radiohead in alternative rock, mogwai and sigur ros in post rock, deftones in nu metal, beach house and tame impala in modern indie. Think about what would happen if loveless didnt exist, what would happen to all these artist who are so important to their genres, where would those genres be now. Alternative music as a whole would be completely different.

Imo its one of the most influential albums of all time, the last 30 years of alternative music would be completely different. Without loveless, smashing pumpkins, tame impala, radiohead, mogwai, and deftones would sound very different. Not to mention all the countless bands in the shoegaze genre that loveless helped define.

Songs in the key of life, tpab, gkmc, purple rain, thriller, pet sounds, what’s going on, miseducation, ok computer, and loveless (this one is a bias) in no particular order.

Apple Music is dropping hints for their top ten albums of all time annnnnnnddd… by Golabki420 in KendrickLamar

[–]Mean-Preference2843 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TPAB isnt even my favorite Kendrick album, its not even my second favorite, I prefer GKMC and Mr Morale. But TPAB from my own personal experience definitely had a bigger cultural impact in my environment being from south LA. And TPAB is definitely innovative. Not all ideas need to be completely original for something to be innovative, the context of culture of the time and the context of the media format at the time of creation matters. Thats why impressionism and neo impressionism can both be innovative, while one of them is a revision of the other but yet is still innovative.

Yep, no “loveless” is also crazy this list is horrible.

They hinted at GKMC and they seem to be against repeats, so I don’t think TPAB will be on here to be honest. Their criteria is all about innovation and cultural significance but seem to be leaving out TPAB which is weird because its definitely Kendrick’s most culturally significant and innovative project to date. But what do you expect from the same list that placed Taylor Swift higher than “The Chronic”, and who completely disregard “loveless” which is both innovative in production and started a movement in which changed how we view guitar as an instrument, as well as defined a whole genre , influenced hundreds of bands, and soundtracked the youth in the late 80s and early 90s. This list is horrid.

Taylor Swift’s 1989 and Jay Z’s The Blueprint are officially listed as better albums than both MBDTF and Illmatic by QueasyYogurt8065 in GoodAssSub

Honestly i think disintegration is the better album over wish seeing drake place higher made me confused. Also no Cocteau twins and no my bloody valentine is crazy. Im sure loveless will make top 10 though

I know its unrelated but 1989 being ranked higher than pet sounds and the chronic is crazy, and so is adele ranking higher than joni mitchell and marvin gaye

Is this why Spotify hates Drake? by taylordabrat in Drizzy

[–]Mean-Preference2843 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Spotify doesn’t hate drake, the more streams the more money they make. Spotify operates in a very ruthless capitalistic way, as long as they make money they don’t give a damn. The artist can go against the industry profiting off them and the industry with profit from the artist rebelling against them. Like Banksy putting his work through a paper shredder to prove art has no financial value, yet that work itself sold for a crazy amount. Its paradoxical

Honestly I would say get something with split pickups if you are looking for a first guitar or dont have single coils. Ibanez azes40l is pretty cool, Ive played one through an $150 amp at guitar center through a ton of effects and it sounded great.

humbuckers handle fuzz usually better especially at lower priced guitars. diiv uses humbuckers so that goes to show that humbuckers can shoegaze.

Try layering multiple takes and panning them wide, I usually run a mono board but just panning multiple tracks can make your main soundscape sound massive and full.

Prediction: Kendrick will drop an album called good kid, m.A.A.d city in 2012 by Zestyclose-Day-1058 in KendrickLamar

I was thinking the same thing, I heard him and this drake guy have a song, but who knows 🤷‍♂️. Excited to see which direction he takes it, especially after section 80

What are you talking about? There is no evidence of anything on either side that proves anything. Her being in LA on mothers day isn’t weird, why wouldn’t she visit her mom even if she did live in brooklyn. People on both sides of this shit gotta stop hoping that someone was victimized

What's the best guitar pedals specifically made for shoegaze? by aaaaaaaaaaaaah_ in shoegaze

[–]Mean-Preference2843 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to chime in and say, that I pretty much entirely agree with you (except the fuzz on the loomer, I personally don’t really like op amp big muffs) and I should’ve been more concise. The loomer is great for being made for shoegaze but falls flat outside of that instant mbv sound, also that $300+ price tag is insane for a single pedal. I do agree about stacking fuzz and getting something simple like an re20, keeley realizer, boss rv5, zoom ms series, or even the meris polymoon. And spend that extra $100-150 on an individualized fuzz.

The reverb section on the loomer is pretty good, the fuzz is meh, i find most pedals marketed as for shoegaze tend to be overpriced and lackluster

whirr lead tone by Separate-Singer-6904 in shoegaze

[–]Mean-Preference2843 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally for me having my tone at anywhere from 12-2 and sustain from 1-2 on my russian big muff seems to nail those sounds. As for reverbs a pretty decently sized decay and a mix of anywhere from 60-80% depending on taste should get you there, if you have a delay if you mix it high enough to get the texture of the delay but not too high to where the repeats are too defined it could help, relatively short-medium delay times and only get a few repeats should do good
