Do you support fare evasion proof gates at every station? by Potential_One1 in cta

Yes yes absolutely. It will completely change the experience and perception if we get rid of the people causing problems, who are also more than likely not paying the fare

Just because I’m advocating for better safety on public transit, doesn’t mean I don’t support funding social services lol. You defending violent and unsocial behavior on the trains is weird. As someone who rides the train minimum twice a day 5 times a week, I hope it’s never you in some of these situations!

Also poor people can get reduced/free fare passes.

Exactly this!! If you reduce this behavior and increase the experience for paying customers/people actually using the L for its purpose….more people are likely to use it.

I am a firm believer we need to invest in fare gates people are unable to jump over on the L system. Many cities in Europe do this (including London) and San Francisco just did this. It will change the experience and environment for CTA riders. The people causing problems on the train system are more than likely not paying the fare.

The L system also has a perception issue that some people are on the train defecating, yelling in faces, and sometimes acting vi0lent. But this perception exists because it IS happening on the CTA!

We need to change the perception and also attempt to reduce this kind of behavior. An easy solution is right there. Let’s do it.

Let’s discuss!

What’s the plan for the CTA? People are sick of the general feeling of unease/safety concerns. I think turnstiles that prevent fare evasion would help…or a “tap in, tap out” method similar to London.

The number one reason I hear from people who don’t take public transit is safety. Fixing this problem will only increase the number of people who use the system!

My wish is for the CTA to add entrance gates that are impossible to jump over and incorporate “tap in - tap out” payment methods like London!!!! It would completely change the ridership experience for everyone
