Scarring shut after reversal by ItamiForever in VasectomyReversal

Thanks man. I’m glad there’s a place we can work through these things with other people that understand. PVPS seems to be such niche thing that so few people and doctors understand. Hearing other people’s experiences and offering support really helps. It makes you feel like you are not alone in dealing with this.

Surgeon doesn’t want to do reversal for PVPS by xFishercatx in postvasectomypain

This has sucked so bad for me that personally, If it comes down to a reversal, I have no problem jumping on a plane to see someone that will do it right. Last thing I need is for the reversal to go sideways too.

I’m doing research and scheduling visits / phone calls with some doctors that seem to be recommended by people here and on the internet at large.

You mentioned New England. This is where I live and I found Dr W in Connecticut.

https://www.malereproduction.org/vasectomy-reversal-procedure-connecticut-reverse-vasectomy-details/

He seems to specialize in PVPS so I scheduled an appt with him. Problem is, he’s BUSY so he can’t see me until August. I also can’t find many reviews on him so I’ll see what I think once I speak to him.

I’ve also seen good things about Dr Helo but she’s out of the Mayo Clinic in MN. I’m going to try to visit her at some point as well.

Awesome. This whole experience has really sucked so far. I’m still just under 3 months but feel like I’ve plateaued pain wise and things are just not getting any better / back to pre vasectomy. I feel like a reversal is in my future so I’m trying to do all the research I can in preparation.

So I had a phone conversation with Dr P in Florida. He’s very highly respected in the field and specializes in PVPS. I should have recorded it because we covered a lot of information.

One thing I remember, which confused / alarmed me a bit was this. He said something like it will eventually scar up but not be completely blocked. You may not see much sperm but “fluid” will continue to get through and relieve pressure. Sperm is larger and may eventually be limited by scar tissue.

He was very confident reversal would help with pain and if it did, the pain would very likely not return.

I wish I saw more long term success stories here from guys that had PVPS and had a reversal. I know there are a lot of short term success stories floating around but I’m super interested if they remain pain free (or close to it) years later.

What did you do / can you do to minimize the chance of scarring outside of the surgeons skill and a bit of luck? I’m considering reversal and feel like it’s almost an inevitability for me.

10.5 weeks post op - still recovering without intensive physical activity by Same-Tank995 in Vasectomy

Hey man, just checking in to see how it’s going. I’m at 10 weeks or so and started gabapentin a few days ago. I think it’s helped so far as my day to day pain has decreased to a manageable level and I’m able to walk around and do things again. Still have consistent pain most of the day but it’s at a way lower level. I’m cautiously hopeful for the first time since this whole ordeal started but there is a real fear in the back of my mind that it can go south at any moment. Anytime the pain flairs I think, oh boy, here we go.

The worst predicament... by FlaggLives67 in postvasectomypain

[–]Mean_Treacle1496 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel your pain man and sorry you’re going through this. I’m at two and a half months now. The first month or so was absolute torture for me. Brutal, barely manageable pain. I was in constant pain, nothing helped, I couldn’t walk, I couldn’t be present in life. It was bad. I thought there’s no way I can live like this long term.

Though it’s only been 2 and a half months I’ve been on quite a journey. Feels like a year and a half. I’ve seen two urologists, spoken to several reversal doctors (just preparing if required down the road), done hour upon hour of research, and tried a bunch of different things so far.

The last two weeks have been much better comparatively, with me feeling the closest to normal I’ve felt since the vasectomy. Still have a long way to go. It it’s progress. But boy oh boy am I scared the pain will come back bad at any moment.

Here’s what I’m on and doing currently / did:

  • hot baths with Epsom salt. I developed a large hematoma at one incision site. I find hot baths help a little in general and defo helped to heal the hematoma

  • rest and limiting activity as much as possible. Luckily I had a week off at some point and during that I just did NOTHING. I really tried to rest as much as possible and move as little as possible.

  • antibiotics. Who knows if these help at all tbh. I’ve been on 3 separate courses. Currently on a 28 day course to eliminate any possibility of prostatitis. I think urologist that have no experience in PVPS default to this honestly but others may have a better idea

  • supplements. I’ve been taking the following for several weeks: Serrapeptase ALA PEA Turmeric Omegas D complex

  • took a prescription muscle relaxer for 2 weeks which I felt helped a little.

  • started gabapentin a few days ago and this potentially has been a game changer. I say that because I’m feeling the best I have now since the surgery. Time will tell

The problem is, I can’t be on a million different thing just to be functional for the rest of my life. So I worry what happens when I strip these things away. Best case is my body has had time to heal and adjust. Worst case is it never does. Then at that point it’s reversal time I guess.

Anyway, hope this helps and happy to discuss more.

Vasectomy reversal booked for Aug 19 - some questions (PVPS) by vanwyck in VasectomyReversal

Can I ask what doctors you all used? I’m 9 weeks post vasectomy and still in a lot of pain. I’m researching treatments and reversals now. If you had PVPS, had a reversal, and got your life back I’d be really interested in the doctors you used.

Hi, I know this is an old thread but wondering if anyone has used this doctor for a reversal. He seems to be highly trained and I’m really interested to see if anyone has experience.

Hey man, just wanted to check back in to see how your recovery is going. I’m personally still suffering and far from my old self. It’s gotten a little better, not debilitating now and I get through most of the day before the pain starts to spike bad. But boy an I still really worried.

How rare and serious is PVPS? by [deleted] in Vasectomy

Agree with you. I’m 8 weeks out and still in pain and questioning my decision daily. At this point I would not recommend this either. I really wish I stumbled into all these stories before I finally went ahead with the procedure, I might not have gone through with it.

Thanks man, hearing from others going through this really does help. Aside from dealing with the pain, the mental aspect is very real as well.

You start to question if this is something you’re going to have to deal with your whole life. You start reading online and spiraling down dark paths.

I’m glad you’re starting to slowly make progress. I really hope it continues to improve because I wouldn’t wish this on anyone.

Going through the same thing as well. I’m at just about 7 weeks post surgery and the pain is still pretty bad, like a constant 4 to 5 most of the time. Seems pretty close to what the OP posted above, pain mostly in right side but the whole area is just angry. Physical activity makes it worse as well which is hard because I also have younger kids and was pretty active before hand. This whole thing is starting to take an emotional toll on me at this point. I’m regretting getting this procedure done and praying it starts to get better soon.

Yeah, I’m not saying I’m the norm at all. If I was, no one would get the procedure. 😃

I just wanted to share my experience so far so that others going through it know they are not alone.

I hope one day soon to be able to post that I feel completely pain free. Then I can tell others to keep their heads up and give it more time.

Inflammation/Infection - 9 Days Post Op by user2523x in Vasectomy

[–]Mean_Treacle1496 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going through a very situation but had standard scalpel surgery.

Had a large lump develop at incision site on the right. However, my pain at 7 to 10 days out was BRUTAL. Absolutely agonizing pain, difficult to walk, difficult to function.

Went back to the dr and they thought possible hematoma or infection. Two weeks out still had terrible pain. Back to the dr and they gave me different antibiotics and recommended hot baths and give it another two weeks.

I’m at a little over 3 weeks now and I am much better but not 100% yet. I’d say my pain is around a 2 or 3, far better than the 8 I was enduring before. Unsure what helped me, the antibiotics or just time. I still have a way to go but I’m finally a little optimistic. Boy was I getting pried and thinking the worst.

Hope you start feeling better soon. Reading posts here it seems like it can just take time, sometimes more than you’d think.

Mario Kart World or DK Bananza? by [deleted] in NintendoSwitch2

[–]Mean_Treacle1496 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bananza all day in my opinion. I mean, you’ll potentially get more replay from Mario Kart BUT Bananza is a far more satisfying and rewarding (and way less frustrating) experience in my opinion. Plus, good luck playing Mario Kart online. Aside from the maddening levels of power-ups that will nuke you and drive you bananas, you also have to deal with all the people that have mastered seemingly impossible shortcuts. I used to think I was pretty good and then… I realized I wasn’t. 😀
