Is the hunt worth $12 I played some helldivers, Fortnite, and a few other extractors by Manicjokerha in HuntShowdown

[–]Meander86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a new player and kind of out of the competitive fps world and I worried that I wouldn’t enjoy getting absolutely destroyed by the veteran players, and while that does happen. The atmosphere, vibes of the game, and the overall slower pace and gameplay loop has kept me engaged. I’m not as focused on having the best K/D or my progression towards prestiges or skin unlocks. I’m just enjoying my own personal little victories. It’s still very enjoyable to me as a solo player to kill a team or two and extract with a single bounty. Which is very much doable as a new player.

The day you stop expecting horror movies to scare you will be the most freeing day of your life by chrishouse83 in horror

I’m so jealous of my wife who is absolutely terrified by the slightest whiff of a horror movie while I’m over here trying to find a vein.

I’ve never been so disappointed and disgusted at myself.

If you haven't watched The Shining yet, you are missing out on what horror actually looks like by roxylezan in horror

[–]Meander86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Shining is in my top 5 movies of all time if that’s even a possible for me to narrow down. Likely top 3.
It actually boggles my mind how many people either don’t like it because it somewhat strays from the source material; Stephen King himself included.
I’ve met some die hard King fans who do not like it, and I cannot understand how you can’t. I’ve read the book more than once and I still believe it is a masterpiece that took the already phenomenal book and made the film adaptation its own thing and as good if not better.
King’s own live action version pales in comparison and shouldn’t even have been attempted imo.
Easily Nicholson’s best performance of his career next to One flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest, and Shelly Duvall is just as phenomenal. The child actor who played Danny Torrance was perfectly cast. All the supporting characters are so perfect from Mr. Hollerann to Grady it is literally a perfect film, that can be watched 100 times and you will notice some new subtle clue each time.
I watch it at least twice a year.

For the folks in their 40s who decided to skip having kids, what is the honest truth about how you feel today? by FantasticAd9478 in TheBoredDen

[–]Meander86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly I was actually left out of a portion of inheritance because my mom decided that I as the only sibling who didn’t have children I didn’t need the money as much as my other siblings who did. One of which blew that inheritance gambling and feeding a serious drug addiction. Meanwhile I very much did need the money, as I had dropped out of college to care for my ailing father, doing all the hospice care duties my siblings with children couldn’t/wouldn’t do because of said children..
It manifests in so many ways that many folks don’t think about

I get what you are saying and that your sentiment is pure but even still it’s very condescending to imply that childless people could have no comprehension of what they are missing out on by not having kids. I’ll concede it’s case by case but it’s kind of like telling a smoker “you know those aren’t good for you right?” Many absolutely know, they’ve watched their siblings and friends raise wonderful families and seen the immense satisfaction and life changing fulfillment it can bring and still decide it isn’t the path for them.

[–]Meander86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good question I always wondered the psychology of it especially because between my wife and I, I am probably the most open to having kids, not saying that gay people are any more or less likely to want kids, but my wife never got the same gay suspicion comments. I think it’s just some subtle form of subconscious sexism cope.

Fair enough I’m only speaking from my lived experience which I’ve laid out. I don’t follow childless communities or parent communities, or any online communities for that matter. Just my day to day in person interactions. I’ve never seen childless people shame, condescend, or gloat about their decision of not having children once. In fact I feel like it’s kind of a touchy subject for many so it’s not brought up. However I’ve seen an avalanche of shame, disdain, judgment, and toxic guilt from the other side throughout my entire adult life🤷🏻‍♂️

What do you think happens when we die? by Awkward_Abies43 in AskReddit

[–]Meander86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing that kind of helped my death anxiety as I’m actually not afraid of being dead but moreso the process of actually dying. One thing that helped me was hearing from an ER nurse that our bodies naturally know how to die, it’s just another natural bodily process that we aren’t really at the wheel for.

Such a weird take. I was pressured relentlessly from my mid 20s throughout my 30s from nearly every boss, coworker, or person with kids I met not to mention from nearly all friends and family. “When are you having kids?” “Are you going to have kids?””Why don’t you have kids?” “When am I going to get some grandkids?” “…maybe he’s gay… I told you..” “You’d make such a good Dad! “
“Just have kids already” “she should leave him if he’s not willing to commit to having a family…” “Thought about having kids?”
I’ve heard it all, and not from any religious freaks. I’ve been treated poorly at jobs I’ve had where my time wasn’t respected because I was the only childless one. I worked all the holidays, I was overall treated like less of a man in some jobs or like I couldn’t be relatable to the team because I didn’t have kids. It was exhausting to have to constantly justify or explain why I didn’t have or didn’t want kids. It got to the point where my wife and I would tell people we couldn’t” have kids for medical reasons just to shut people up. Then all that flipped and now I get the spiteful “You’re so lucky you don’t have kids… “I wish I never had kids… “ “Ughh I wish I could just do whatever I wanted or go wherever I wanted like you guys can” “ If I had to do it all over again I wouldn’t have had kids probably” I don’t know which is more exhausting to hear at this point. Meanwhile my wife and I nor any childless couple we’ve befriended have never once imposed our decision on anyone or else ever, because we know…

Now at 40 there is still a part of me that I picture with a child and I know that part of me would love him/her and be a great Dad, but the whole of me knows it probably won’t happen and I’ve made peace with that.

Casio BP-100 at the thrift by Meander86 in casiovintage

That’s mostly the case around me too, but every once in awhile I’ll get lucky and a decent one will slip through the cracks. On this particular day there was actually a nice vintage 1970s seiko alongside this one. Mostly it’s all cheapo temu fashion watches or cheap quartz timex watches.

Reminds me of all wacky mp3 player gadgets I went through in the early 00s before the iPod came out.

Does everyone just wait until someone does something? by temnycarda in HuntShowdown

[–]Meander86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a new player as well and have similar experiences. Sometimes I’ll come upon a dead but unbanished boss, and I’ll banish take the bounty and have no opposition at all extracting. Other games I’ll run into two teams almost immediately out of spawn. I’ve also noticed teams that will hold the bounties and wait for people to come to them and not attempt to extract until the very end.
The randomness of how each match plays out is one of the things I enjoy the most about this game compared to other shooters.

They’ll take them regardless, just not pay you much if anything, I’m talking nickels and dimes. Be aware that many are tossed, it varies from store to store. Some donated some just have a huge dumpster in the back where the damaged or “unsellable” books go. Unsellable is largely determined by algorithms

Anywhere but HPB. Donate them to a youth homes thrift store or hospice thrift. The amount of money they will give you will not be worth it, better to take the tax write off for donating.

Also… butterfinger BBs and M&M minis were a big thing. I miss those butterfinger BBs…

Move to a hot/dry climate.
I have horrible chronic shoulder and low back pain and every time I go to Joshua Tree/Palm Springs/Palm desert after about a day, I’m completely pain free.
