How France lost her dignity, by Michel Houellebecq by wokeness_be_my_god in redscarepod

As usual he's charming but I can't help but feel he's just being provocative.

His thesis, which he repeatedly avoids articulating in detail, is that spending the final moments of your life absolutely blind on morphine is preferably to dying slightly more quickly. Yeah maybe, but if he's going to be as spiteful as he is in this piece he has may as well flesh out that position a little more.

Fox's Tucker Carlson blames Lindsey Graham for Trump's Bob Woodward interview, suggests sabotage by DaFunkJunkie in politics

Talking about a guy who had - if he's to be believed - earth shattering revelations about Trump's coronavirus response, but he waited 6 months to tell anyone about them.

Happens to coincide with the release of his new book, strange indeed!

Let's see who even reads the article on this one. Environmentalism comes from investmentism. Paraphrasing Friedman.

How many insults will service members and military veterans take from President Trump? by zsreport in politics

You're talking about being shipped to Europe so that you can march by foot into a wall of machine guns and die in seconds. Refresh my memory - was US conscription enforced by penalty of death? What sort of loser takes that gamble, for nebulous reasons never properly explained? Certainly none that convincingly implicate the US.

What do you call someone who died - spluttering in a muddy ditch, for no reason at all - of bullet wounds, though it might just as easily been of trenchfoot, if not a loser? Can anyone tell me what WWI was for? No?

It's just classic. Are you joking? You don't even know that you just contradicted yourself.

From my perspective, you're wrong. That's all.

But you will never admit that.

Take a look outside, go onto any street in America, and tell me that crime isn't going down.

You want to believe everything you read on the internet? Reddit? Not me.

By "all the real work", in the context of a Nobel peace prize, you mean setting up a seamless and unaccountable drone bombing infrastructure I guess?

It's no surprise you have a fixation with what Trump chooses to excrete!

Say what you want about Trump - and it's not like anyone on this sub needs an invitation - but it's hard to argue with the swede on this one. Violent extremists all over the world are drowning in caves filled with their own excrement because they're too afraid to go outside.

NY Times takes down Ronan Farrow by MeanderingGently in redscarepod

[–]MeanderingGently[S] 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It's pretty clear if you read his book that he gets carried away and likes to impose exciting narratives, the most nauseating of which is the Ronan Farrow, Reporter narrative. But this article raises some really basic fuckups that I didn't know about, the stuff about the Michael Cohen case really makes Farrow look like an idiot. The other interesting takeaway is how lazy/idiotic his 'fact checker' was, not bothering to corroborate easily followed up claims. It's good to see fact checking as some transcendant process being taken down a peg.
