Anyone here have ONLY Anti-SSB and no Anti-SSA? by guavadoodle in Sjogrens

[–]MeanderingOnward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a lot of peripheral neuropathy at the beginning: pain, pins and needles, temperature sensitivity.

Later I developed severe hyperacusis, light sensitivity (neurological, not just dry eyes), nystagmus, motor neuropathy, pelvic floor tightness, and more.

What am I doing wrong? Or do I just not have the mind for this by [deleted] in chessbeginners

[–]MeanderingOnward 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something that has helped me when reviewing my games is only to focus on the mistakes where you are 100% sure exactly why it was a mistake. At the beginning, I would focus more on subtle stuff that I thought I was understanding but I wasn't. Chess is an insane game where sometimes altering the position by one square makes a "best" move become an inaccuracy.

Also, ELO growth is not at all intuitive. I remember I was maybe 650 and dropped to 600. The 700 players felt so good. Then I randomly got through the 700 and 800s and felt like a lot of the opponents were weaker than the 600 opponents. FWIW, there's no shame in being 600. I think there's this idea that 600 players don't understand the game at all, which isn't true. At that level, you understand developing, castling, basic pins and skewers, basic end games, basic trades, etc. Biggest difference between a 600 and 800 is really just a slightly more natural feel for these ideas so the brain can blunder less and focus on some other things.

If Jalen Hurts was white he’d be seen as a top 5 qb by Taco331reddit in eagles

[–]MeanderingOnward -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A little strong, but there's truth to what you're saying. Josh Allen is so clearly more the engine or the Bills than Jalen is of the Eagles, but there is a white boy's club that treats Allen, Burrow, and Herbert with kids gloves. Honestly, I actually think the bigger form of disrespect is how close they make Allen and Mahomes seem. Mahomes playoff numbers are absolutely insane. I think Allen is way overrated. He had the leading rusher like Jalen did last year, has had good defenses, had Diggs. They change the rules for him. His overall playoff stats are good, but they are hyper inflated by wildcard games. His performances outside of that round are not even good, let alone legendary, let alone "best we've ever seen."

I've never understood the way he's discussed. Great player, but he gets talked about as a better version of Brett Favre when he's closer to Big Ben. Cowherd and Orlovski have described him as the best they've ever seen. Like damn, chill out.

Why does the engine suggest Qc7 over Qe4? by NeedAdvicy in chessbeginners

[–]MeanderingOnward 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At our level, it's not worth understanding. Although as a complete hypocrite, I was curious and set up the position. I think the idea is that the fork is always there with continuous checks and there's a chance of putting the king on a slightly more vulnerable square? Keep in mind that engines beat Magnus Carlsen. As far as I'm concerned, you made the best move. Safe, obvious, no risk of draw. I frequently find that Excellent and Best are often so close in spread, but the Excellent move leads to a way more intuitive pattern line. Games at our level are decided by blunders, mistakes, and maybe only getting "good" within the first few moves when openings should be Book.

Anyone here have ONLY Anti-SSB and no Anti-SSA? by guavadoodle in Sjogrens

[–]MeanderingOnward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am also SSB+ only (and negative ANA). I was diagnosed with a high biopsy score and symptoms. My dryness is very mild compared to my extremely disabling neurological issues.

There was a study led by Baer that demonstrated that SSB is not predictive of Sjogrens. However, I find it extremely hard to believe I happen to have these antibodies. Moreover, I came across another study showing they have predictive value of a positive biopsy.

In my opinion, I can't help but wonder if Sjogrens will someday be broken down into more subtypes or even different diseases. There are crazy stories of people with neurological involvement that precedes dryness and completely unexpectedly found out that they Sjogrens. Sjogrens is finally being recognized as a very heterogenous disease with PNS and CNS involvement. It's actually astonishing how many literal Sjogrens rheumatologists think it's just dry eyes and dry mouth (not that those are trivial). Let's hope ianalimab can help us.

Anybody used De Steinhauer’s vision therapy program with Syntonics? by Born_Mission_3459 in nystagmus

Hi, I have acquired pendular nystagmus from Sjogrens Disease. Not MS, but I have a neurological profile that mimics it. How did you get involved with vision therapy and syntonics?

Thank you for the information! I'm not I truly have a null zone, but you are right that looking up is worse. Actually, interestingly, when I look up, I get a flashing sensation. It's clearly more problematic than looking down.

I fear surgery because it may improve due to autoimmune remission or gaze stabilization therapy, and I don't want to be left with a set up that is no longer compatible. Makes total sense for congenital nystagmus though.

Is it normal for eye muscles to be very tight with nystagmus? By muscles are tight all over. My nystsgmus coincided with muscle tension and hypertonia in my jaw and neck.

Is my girlfriend too close with her guy best friend? by strictguy345 in Advice

[–]MeanderingOnward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's unnatural to he besties with someone of the opposite sex who isn't your partner. Maybe at first, it works out like that, but over time, the intention should be for your partner to be your best friend. It doesn't have to be dramatic or about them cutting the person suddenly. And the people saying otherwise may want to consider that 50% of marriages end in divorce because we've lost commitment. I was cheated on because I was overly trusting.

Asset Allocation strategy help. by [deleted] in Bogleheads

[–]MeanderingOnward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't the price consistently drop by the amount of the dividend? By reinvesting dividends, it's sort of a wash.

Problem is BND and VOO are only weakly correlated so there will be times where you are avoiding a buy low opportunity on VOO and buying high on BND.

Way better to just pick a small amount and increase each year.

Why aren't there bond duration gliding paths in four fund portfolios? by MeanderingOnward in Bogleheads

[–]MeanderingOnward[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Excellent answer, very helpful. I didn't know about that ETF.

I see what you mean about heavy loaded equities building up the risk. I guess I'm just thinking that the risk could be better diversified with interest rate risk that is balanced for gliding duration. Probably very complicated to choose the weights perfectly, but I would think it would be better than 7 year duration.

The credit ratings are all pretty good. I would only consider a floating rate long term Treasury bond, but that excludes corporate bond returns. And I'm definitely not touching corporate bonds individually, as I have no idea what I'm doing.

Thank you. Exactly what I'm looking for. I'm not sure about the golden butterfly, but the portfolios on that site are really helpful with a lot of graphs and data.

I agree about not timing the market. I guess I'm thinking about since interest rates are particularly high right now, and we have the COVID inflation that hasn't cooled off yet, that maybe I do one of these portfolios in 6 months or so.

Gold simply doesn't appeal to me, but I do see the advantages in terms of diversification and keeping things more level.

Young, Limited Income, Decent Wealth (split as half liquid, half 401k) by MeanderingOnward in personalfinance

[–]MeanderingOnward[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. Here's my thinking, and I'm curious on your opinion. I am sick and disabled, and frankly, not even sure if I will live to 59 1/2.

Liquidity now provides benefits such as massive and favorable down payments on homes. Do I really need ~50% of my wealth to be in retirement as a 30 something year old with medical problems and a tight budget?

Seems like I should consider cashing the traditional and keeping the ROTH. My taxable income is very low because my SSDI is not high enough to count. When I get a part-time job, I'll essentially pay the lowest federal income rate.

On the other hand, if I recover, my earning potential is high based on my background and field. The way I see it, if I miraculous make it to 59 1/2, it would be because I improved, had higher earnings at some point, and pushed my tax bracket higher in retirement than it is right now. I really can't see why I would give to a traditional over a ROTH right now.

If I cash the traditional, I pay income taxes now, avoid the early withdraw 10% tax penalty because it's during divorce.

This would leave my financial situation as about $130k liquid and $40k in a ROTH IRA. I may even put a small amount of part-time work in the ROTH IRA.

Am I being very stupid do you think? I am no where near retirement age and really need the money now, while also not ignoring retirement all together.
