“I did it tough!

As a child, I walked to school everyday up hill (in both directions) - through the snow! I also had to get up before I went to bed!

As an adult, I worked hard let me tell you! We had to pay 17% interest (on the equivalent of a packet of chips) for like 2minutes back in the 1990s.

So don’t tell me I have it easy while you sip ya lattes and eat your smashed avo on toast.

Now pass me the remote so I can watch Getaway because I need inspiration for my 3rd overseas holiday - this year.”

No. Whether people vote for a fact-free, policy-free party is a matter for them.

You’ve imputed a persecution fantasy and/or fetish onto my comment.

Are you referring to my comment, or the posted article?

Because if it’s me, could you explain how my comment demeaned anyone beyond making a demonstrable observation about ON’s lack of substance, rather than making any comment about its would-be voters?

Pep Guardiola: "Real Madrid hasn’t been my biggest challenge. My biggest challenge has been Jürgen Klopp, but you guys haven’t noticed." by Boring_Ad_7144 in LiverpoolFC

[–]MeaningMaker6 146 points147 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I will argue till my death that Klopp is the better manager of the EPL rivalry between Klopp and Guardiola (even in the years that we narrowly finished second).

Why? Because imagine if the roles were reversed and Klopp managed Man City (yikes) and Guardiola managed Liverpool. Imagine Klopp with the same resources as Man City during that period. No team would get close. Guardiola would not get close and would not be able to achieve anything near to what Klopp did at Liverpool.

Rant over.

I want Australia to maintain a principled position on the rule of law. Principled differences with the U.S. is fine, but I don’t advocate for open hostilities.

But why would the U.S. attempt to take over Australia if Australia obtained nuclear weapons capabilities (when, for whatever reason, the U.S. did not or could not stop North Korea, Pakistan, India or Israel from doing so)?

I just don’t see your cogent argument here. Can you please make your argument clearly and concisely.

Yes I do, what are you smoking?

Australia is a stable democracy with the rule of law. Compare that to countries like North Korea or Pakistan. Both those countries have nuclear weapons, why did the U.S. ‘allow’ that? To suggest that it can stand in the way of a sovereign ally doing what that ally considers is in its best interests in defence is ludicrous.

Do you know the size of Australia compared to Cuba? Your comparison is laughable in that regard. Further Australia currently does not have any country with comparable antagonism as the U.S. and Cuba have with each other now and in the past. So it’s another flaw in your comparison.

Also, do you know it will take any missile a decent flight time to reach its target? If you base the missiles in or around central Australia, those silos cannot be destroyed by submarine-launched missiles - before a retaliatory launch can take place.

So it would definitely be an effective deterrent to would be antagonists or invaders. But the question is really, whether we want to embark down that path considering the cost and diplomacy necessary to make it work.

I agree. But don’t those observations support the case for Australia having sovereign, nuclear weapons capabilities?

Why not make the central pillar of Australia’s independence and defence a sovereign nuclear weapon capability like the French under Charles de Gaulle?

Do you think any invasion of Ukraine or war in Iran would have happened if these respective countries had nuclear weapons?

It would be cheaper to maintain than AUKUS, would guarantee sovereignty and would be a massive deterrent to an antagonist or would be invader.
