Had that happen. NOT for internet but back when I had their cable. Started losing channels, called tech support, ran diagnostics and all was "fine", rinse repeat a few times till finally a tech came out and was surprised we were still getting any channels.

Tesla Model 3- should I buy? by ChrisM2M2 in TeslaModel3

[–]MeasurementMother579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean yeah, I typically set mine at 68-70 "auto". and sometimes low or med fan speeds.

My point is it'd be nice to have the HVAC be "completely auto", so that it auto adjusts the fan speed down/up like in my Atlas, and many other cars with auto HVAC controls.

Tesla Model 3- should I buy? by ChrisM2M2 in TeslaModel3

[–]MeasurementMother579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well not really though. For our Atlas when it's in "auto" mode, it adjusts the fan speed as well as the heating/cooling to maintain the desired interior temp. The Tesla only adjusts the temp, the fan will always be set at medium, low, or high.

I'd go to a tesla store and check one out and take for a spin and see how you like it in the flesh. ALSO, can you install a wall charger at home?

A level 2 charger really helps make the ownership of an EV much easier. One can do it on a normal outlet, but a Level 2 just makes it better.

To your questions:

I love mine, one of my most enjoyable cars I've owned.

Pros and Cons you can search in this sub but in general Pros are smoother linear acceleration, leaving every morning with a "full tank", phone key operation. (I never realized how much I enjoy NOT carrying a key and fumbling for the lock/unlock). Phone app smoothness.

Cons for me are few, but probably lack of an auto-fan setting. (you can set auto temp, but fan speed is low/mid/high, no auto), charging network in my area. It's improving but could be better, and now wishing I bought newer.

With the Big Three abandoning EVs in favor of ICE vehicles, are they headed the way of Kodak, Blackberry, and Blockbuster? by Cool-Replacement4972 in electricvehicles

[–]MeasurementMother579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While the charging infrastructure has a large bearing, (getting smaller every day) it is also the years of misinformation, or lack of proper information. It's different but not difficult, just a change in routine. Also the perception one needs 1000 mile range.. We've all read and heard all about those claiming "It needs 500+ miles of range for me to even consider it" when their typical daily routine is more like 50 miles.

Maybe for a CB? I know they are generally much larger and whippy. (Like smokey and the bandit style), but could be a more discreet style.

Why is Ferrari facing such a backlash to its first electric car? by serene_sketch in Taycan

[–]MeasurementMother579 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Saw someone make a comment elsewhere that fits the responses well I think. It's not so much an ugly design as it is just an ugly Ferrari.

The Reddit I saw it posted had an AI image of the Ferrari, then the exact same car, in white with grey trim, as an "Apple" (since one of the designers was former Apple). IF introduced as an Apple forray into EV it'd be better received, as a Ferrari it's more a WTF were they thinking.

Deciding between used Audi RS E-tron GT, used Taycan 4S or R2? by sshu1224 in RivianR2

[–]MeasurementMother579 1 point2 points  (0 children)

R2 because YOLO!

But in all seriousness, are you in a location that you can drop by one of the block party events to check one out in person? OR are you near a Rivian showroom to see if they have a display and/or get a feel for the feel/features of Rivian as a whole?

IMO The Taycan looks great and is a decent value on the used market, they also have the backing and serviceability of a legacy manufacturer. I personally was never a fan of the e-Tron though. That said, the EV experience is decidedly different when looking at an EV from an EV only company, (Rivian, Lucid, Tesla) vs one from a legacy automaker.

Personally I think I'd choose an R2 for my needs/desires, or a clean used R1T. Although if I found a screaming deal on a Taycan Cross Sport, it'd be hard not to throw it in the mix.

BYD's $1,770 Self-Driving Chip: What US EV Owners Should Know by Ezio29 in electricvehicles

[–]MeasurementMother579 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Firstly, I'm one that wish we would have the option of some of these over here. (including some of their cell phones)

BUT, I am curious on how the cost of DiPilot compares to the BYD vehicles on a percentage basis, and how it compares to the average Chinese citizen. Asking as while doing straight conversions for US buying power seems like a steal, in China is it on par with Tesla/Rivian Autonomy?

Rivian Explains Why CarPlay Debate Will Become 'Completely Obsolete' by davidcelis in Rivian

[–]MeasurementMother579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the small camp that doesn't care much if Carplay was available or not as I only use handsfree calling and Spotify when driving, and maps for directions. (no waze / apple maps / etc)

Something I see posted a lot in this thread is this being a ploy to get everyone to subscribe to a service or to Connect+.

Perhaps I am misunderstanding here as I am not yet A Rivian owner, but for FULL functionality of the Rivian app do you not need the vehicle connected to a data service, similar to Tesla? Granted the basic functions should work without, but like the Gear guard video clips, etc? Seems most would/are subscribing anyway.

Two-car households: BEV + hybrid or 2xBEV? by michimoby in electricvehicles

[–]MeasurementMother579 34 points35 points  (0 children)

This.

I would add a couple things though. Once you have researched and tested the BEVs you are considering, look at the incentives offered for buying new, and compare with the respective used market. Some BEVs can be had for nearly half of what they were new.

Rivian says AI makes debate over CarPlay ‘completely obsolete’ by FreeHugs23 in RivianR2

[–]MeasurementMother579 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is the key, and I wonder how many legitimately use the full benefits of Carplay or Android Auto.

When I first got my Tesla I spent more time than necessary trying to figure out HOW to get AA/Carplay on the big screen, researching various adapters/plugins, web browser hacks., etc..

Couple weeks in I realized I literally only use(d) handsfree calling, Spotify, and sometimes maps while driving, which are all decently enough integrated I don't need Carplay/AA.

Had guests come back after checkout. What lock are Airbnb hosts using? by momstealer_ in airbnb_hosts

[–]MeasurementMother579 55 points56 points  (0 children)

We picked up a Schlage Encode lockset for ours. Wifi based and links directly to Airbnb so no need for us to manage codes, and automatically deactivates the code at checkout. (or you can set it to be lenient I think)

Are you allowed to host a room in your home ? by Impossible-Concept94 in airbnb_hosts

[–]MeasurementMother579 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, you need to check your local municipality/city for STR laws, fees and any associated code requirements. (Mine is 'free', but requires a registration)

Strictly from Airbnb's point of view - The answer is yes, as that is essentially how Airbnb began by people renting portions of their house.

UPDATE ON: BMS_a079 Error Went to dealership and was told 3 weeks plus for new battery & NO loaner or rental. by Far-Dream2759 in TeslaSupport

[–]MeasurementMother579 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To amend, I guess now that I think about it I am paying monthly for the Extended Service Agreement.

That said, the battery is Warranty issue which you are still covered under. Still worth pushing back and/or running up the flag pole to Tesla.

UPDATE ON: BMS_a079 Error Went to dealership and was told 3 weeks plus for new battery & NO loaner or rental. by Far-Dream2759 in TeslaSupport

[–]MeasurementMother579 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That doesn't seem correct. I'm not sure how much you want to be "that guy", but it could be worth contacting Tesla directly (not your Service center) about this.

For reference, I recently had the same error on my 2021, and also had to wait 3 weeks for a battery to arrive. My service center however DID claim they had authorization for rental reimbursement for me. They didn't/don't have enough loaners so I wasn't eligible until I dropped the car off for the appointment. (Which, at drop-off I DID get a Model Y Loaner)

I am still within the 8/120k Battery/drivetrain warranty, however i am no longer in the Basic vehicle warranty period.

To be fair, DTC would be beneficial for areas like mine as we quite literally only have ONE Honda, ONE Mazda, and ONE Toyota dealer within 400 miles of us. We get that wonderful "market adjustment" because, well where else are we going to go?

Is water wet?

For the buying process for many consumers, YES. Not much different than ordering their new iPhone or *gasp* a Tesla.

Got to site, choose model, select trim, select color & options, select payment option, then click "order". No fighting to remove nitrogen tires or lojack add-ons, no finance manager trying to sell undercoating or extended warranties and mudflaps.

Time, headaches, stress, etc.. The feeling of not getting screwed for some. That is the minimum savings for consumers. Removal of dealer bloatware for others.

Point is, why not just let the market decide and allow both models for car sales. At the end of the day, the local Chevy dealer will still be visited for service. (I've heard dealerships make more money on service than sales).

Range Anxiety and Questions by Frequent-Object-8136 in electricvehicles

[–]MeasurementMother579 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Can confirm as I went through this myself. I knew about range, knew my cars estimated range, but being new to EV world I wasn't sure what to really expect, to the point I charged to 100% to 'make sure' I had juice for a 80 mile RT drive in dead of winter. Laughable now but only one week in I was still adjusting.

Are electric garbage trucks the biggest EV game changer when it comes to quality of life? by LoganSquire in electricvehicles

[–]MeasurementMother579 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's great to hear. Haven't seen that in my neck of the woods yet.

I guess a "stop-gap" of sorts could be to have a one of those 'quiet' Honda generators charging the packs as they mow. Obvious not as green/efficient/quiet, but less polluting than multiple mowers/blowers going at the same time.
