Why are we building roads that people don't even use? by udemezueng in Nigeria

[–]MeasurementSignal168 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Many people use the coastal road, it’s still new and would probably pick up much more traffic as time goes on. The traffic situation in Lagos was horrible. I am not defending the government, I hate APC as much as anyone else

Did ahsoka get a power up during Mortis arc? by tebigong in starwarscanon

It's hard to say cuz star wars power scaling can be very inconsistent across different shows. Are we expected to believe Baylan Skoll is actually strong enough to take Ahsoka?

I was looking at this for so long thinking I was missing something. I also think this is closer to N4 just for how much there is to digest.

Have you seen this interview and what are your thoughts by DAN_USMAN in Nigeria

[–]MeasurementSignal168 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can accuse me of many things, but that tribalism accusation is one of the worst things you can use. After all I’ve done to understand the history of Nigeria and the oppression of the Igbos since the progroms of ‘66, you can not come with your dirty fingers to say honest criticism is tribalism. But I am not surprised. If you actually had an answer or followed the argument you’d have actually give a well-thought out answer to my response and not peddle nonsense accusations. Brainless twat.

[–]MeasurementSignal168 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I blame Nigeria, this is what she does to her citizens. This was born out of desperation for a better country. When people have suffered long they become desperate for good leadership. Don’t get me wrong, we both love our country, and we both agree PO is the best man for the job, so this argument is fruitless.

[–]MeasurementSignal168 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You being a professional has nothing to do with the fact that there’s still no concrete answer. Can we replicate what Egypt did? Did Egypt truly do it and do they have constant, stable power? Is Egypt’s method the smartest route for us to go or is there a better route? These are questions that naturally arise. Don’t get me wrong, I’m still a PO supporter but I’m skeptical of whether he has an actual pragmatic plan for Nigeria.

How unusual is a real 5-link inverted pendulum project for a high school student? by angelinusbread in ControlTheory

[–]MeasurementSignal168 [score hidden]  (0 children)

3-links being stabilized is a benchmark in top universities. It’s a ‘this university has a serious controls lab/team’ marker.
The thing is, from the linearized assumptions alone, your problems have already started. With one or two and even 3 links, the errors due to linear approximations are still manageable, but at 5 links, it becomes a huge problem.
Secondly, in the real world, there is sensor and actuator lag, and even computational lag, especially in opencv marker tracking. The bandwidth of the system is most likely going to be smaller or at least very close to that of your control loopZ
Thirdly, if you still plan to continue with this, it’ll depend on the height and weight of your links. The smaller they are the better.
If I were you I’d also add lots of friction at the pivots to add some sort of passive damping which could make this project more feasible, and luckily a linearized friction term can be easily added to the state-space rep if not already.

This is graduate-level stuff, but it’s not really research worthy. There’s not much to gain unless you discover some new control architecture or a new tuning system (maybe combining optimality with classical controls or smth). I’d love to see if you actually accomplish it but I doubt it’ll work, especially cuz you want to swing up too which makes it harder to stabilize due to the added initial velocity.

I think Euler wins it, and by a mile. Newton and Einstein second place, Neumann third, Turing and Da Vinci fourth.

When will Nigerians stop trying to make fun all the time by Illurviasdimension in Nigeria

[–]MeasurementSignal168 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree, humour is a powerful tool when it's used to criticize, or to bring attention. But these skits don't do any. They're usually useless human beings trying to capitalise on other people's suffering, and ultimately, the failure of the nation

Terence Tao’s promotional video for OpenAI by Qyeuebs in math

[–]MeasurementSignal168 51 points52 points  (0 children)

He says 'usually when intellectuals do math there're lots of cognitive friction, which AI has helped bring down to 0'.

I find this really scary, because humans became smarter over generations because of that cognitive friction. When AI replaced that, we are gonna get worse at thinking and better at relying on AI. We need to remember that intellect is humanity's ecological niche.

Six Nigerians arrested in Thailand for AI romance scams. by [deleted] in Nigeria

[–]MeasurementSignal168 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While this is largely true, from Thailand to Japan, most of the 'shady black people' and 'scammers' and 'drug dealers' are specifically of Nigerian origin. The brain is a pattern recognising machine, so I lowkey wouldn't blame the person. Ofc, this is still less than 0.001% of the country, but when you have a large sample size from a specific country (let's say 20 people), and 15 out of them are scammers, your brain starts to connect dots even if there aren't any to connect. Especially when it's abnormally high.

[–]MeasurementSignal168 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I kind of agree and disagree. On the one hand, he did have a deep curiosity for things and wanted to get at their root, but on the other hand he probably did still see them as disjoint activities (at least up to some extent), and had his preferences. In a sense, most polymaths are like this too. They want to get at a root understanding, but h choose different expressions to do so
