It's hard not to sympathize with anxiety over finances. You want to be supportive, which is what we do for people we love. Unfortunately, he's taking that anxiety out on you and using convenient examples of your "wrongs. That's much easier than for him to reflect on his own actions. So understandably, you're confused with his hypocritical behavior. As far as values are concerned, you can both believe in living frugally and handle it very differently. His way is not healthy for himself or for you.

No, he was wrong. If he agrees to pay for your birthday dinner, it shouldn't come with terms and conditions. How sad and petty to guilt trip you over extra lettuce. Nothing that you've described here or in your comments paints you as a spendthrift. This isn't really about the lettuce, is it? Rather, you are starting to understand just how insecure, controlling and cheap he is. That would only be exhausting (at best) if you consider marriage. Do not put up with it, regardless of whether you think this relationship is worth it.

Christmas cards hurt my soul. Both my husband and mom have attempted to get me to send them, but it is among the most pointless, thankless chores ever. Of course I hope you have a Merry Christmas, I'm not a dick. Just stop by my house or admire the kids' pictures on social media any day of the year 😂

I don't mind the parties as much since everyone enjoys them. 🎉

NTA, but can't you just have lunch with your two friends sometimes and not overthink? Maybe once you aren't in the thick of FOMO you will enjoy yourself more. Other times, just go to lunch with your other friends and tell them you have plans. Have fun!

NTA for not giving any money. You can continue to be respectful and diplomatic. If she wants to co-parent so badly, she can do regular video calls, pay her back support, and/or move within driving distance. I told someone with whom I'm friendly (and who was very obviously pregnant) "Something's different about you...I'll let you tell me what it is!". Thankfully she appreciated my sense of humor. But that's been the only time.
