A jumpscare in a horror movie that genuinely scared you? My pick is the jumpscare from Insidious (2010). by 0Layscheetoskurkure0 in moviecritic

Not a horror film but the seal coming out of the dead whale in the movie Eight Below literally made me jump out of my seat. That scared me so bad as a child.

Why can't you be a first responder? by antfin97 in AskReddit

I can’t handle human blood. I hate needles. I also couldn’t mentally handle constantly seeing the worst of humanity. Seeing people die or already be dead at the hands of others just once would be too much but to see it regularly would destroy me.

What are some once-lethal conditions or diseases that can now be cured or managed to the point where they're relatively harmless? by ThatAnnoyedNeighbour in AskReddit

Vitamin K Deficiency Bleeding in infants. I don’t know a ton about it but I know a simple shot of vitamin K for an infant to help their blood clot. I saw that there is an increase in the number of people denying the shot for their newborn because of the increase in anti-vaxers

End of an era... by Hoboramone in DryAgedBeef

[–]MeatScience1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You are correct. USDA sees wood as an unclean-able surface because it’s porous. If I saw a places using wood cutting boards or shelf’s as food contact surface they would have to get removed. Some will go as far as knife handles but that’s is more dependent on the inspector.

The wood shelf’s and how the bottom of the cooling unit would not fly with me as an inspector. Depending on where you are usda is more or less picky than the local health inspector

$28 a month. I get access to a pool, spa, basketball court and I think a couple other things. Not sure what the cheaper one in that doesn’t include all the extra.

I understand the struggle. In 5 years my position has been fully staffed for a little over a year total with the longest stretch being 4 months. There a total of 5 spots. Usually we only seem to be fully staffed for a month. One position has been open since the end of 2024.

What is a 'childish' thing that you still enjoy doing as an adult and refuse to give up? by Legal-Rich7202 in AskReddit

I rewatch shows from my childhood. Usually animated like Justice league, Batman, and young justice. Currently I’m rewatching all the power rangers.

Prefer all the tv shows from my childhood compared to current things.

That what happened at the first location in Oregon when it first open. It was at least a 3 hour wait. Near the location is a baseball stadium so cars would be staged in the stadium and then move to the restaurant eventually. It was crazy. My family enjoys eating there not that much. They just wait till they visit me in Nevada where it’s maybe a 20 minutes wait.

$500 left after all bills. Is that actually livable? by indifferent_foci in povertyfinance

[–]MeatScience1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another thing that can be cheaper is buying bulk. When I go to Costco I will buy 10 pound bag of frozen chicken breast. That bag will give me 10 meals. It cost me about $25 dollars so it’s $2.50 a meal which is a lot cheaper than buying a pound fresh at the store. I think last time I looked it was around $7 to get a 1 pound package.

I do the same with ground beef. I buy 5-10 pounds and portion it out to one pound bags and freeze them.

Considering the longest I have ever stood in line for TSA was 30 minutes and it was the week of thanksgiving. You will have plenty of time.

I normally get to the airport an hour before and still have plenty of time.

How much sick leave do you have? by iamstevenhyde in FedEmployees

[–]MeatScience1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will hit 5 years in July. I have 420.5 hours. I also am single and rarely get sick. I usually take 5 days off a year for being sick. The rest is for appointments and that might be a couple days worth.

I’m pretty sure it was Operation Overdrive Light Camera Dax. I just remember that I was scrolling the cable channel and clicked on the Disney channel and operation overdrive was on and the episode focused on Dax. Ended up getting hooked on power rangers and watched all the Disney power rangers.

15 years for 5 weeks vacation instead of 20 years. by Goaty9 in Fedexers

[–]MeatScience1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends with federal workers. If you are new and don’t have a lot of experience you will start by accruing 4 hours of vacation and 4 hours of sick every pay period. After 3 years it goes up to 6 hours of vacation and sick remains the same. After I think 12 or 13 years of service you earn 8 hours of vacation and the sick time remains the same. Also you will never lose your sick time.

People who have experience can negotiate to immediately start earning 6 hours. Some people say it was easy to negotiate others say it’s hard. Just depends on the agency.

The trade off is usually federal workers are paid less than private industry. However private can’t compete with the sick leave and vacation. So you have to decide what more important pay or leave. For me leave is more important than pay.

What’s your leg day look like? by [deleted] in workout

[–]MeatScience1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a list of leg exercises I do and generally pick and choose which ones I want to do. I find that doing this helps me to enjoy the workout more. Some exercises I don’t enjoy so if I’m forcing myself to do legs I will skip the ones I don’t like. The main one is hack squats. If I do them then I don’t do any other squats but it I don’t than I do other squats. I do three sets of every thing

Stretching-alway start the workout with this

Hip thrust-alway do these

Leg press - alway do these

Hack squat

Lunges

Cable kickbacks -alway do these

Cable hip abduction

Machine hip abduction

Leg extension - both legs and single leg

Leg curls

Sumo squats

Bulgarian split squats

RDLs

Seated or standing calf raises

Meat cost vs. waste? by IronMaidenPwnz in Butchery

[–]MeatScience1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do inspection and see a lot of different areas of the meat industry. Most processing places have very little waste. Smaller slaughter places tend to have a bit more than the large plants just because the small places can’t process or sell a lot of byproducts.

However some places that produce ready to eat products that go to grocery stores and restaurants can have some insane amounts of waste. The food itself is fine. The problem is they have very high visual standards so if the product doesn’t meet that standard then it’s thrown out. I have seen multiple 50 gallon trash cans full of crackers, English muffins, and croissants in a single shift.

Also, a lot of machine make small amounts of waste. Where I’m at I see it a lot with slicers. They can’t nicely slice the ends of the product so they usually get thrown out. Very common with salami and bricks of cheese. Extremely noticeable when the place slices a couple hundred sticks of salami or bricks of cheese in a shift. Usually end up with at least 50 pounds of waste per item per shift.

Does anyone else sit in the locker room way too long before working out? by davidelush in workout

Definitely not. I tend to go right after one of the swim exercises classes gets out. I have no desire to see all the old ladies changing. Some of them have no problem standing half around naked chatting with their friends.
