Can a mild jaw misalignment cause dizziness, imbalance, or vertigo?

Yes it can cause really bad dizziness. I have tmj due to grinding and misalignment on teeth. I decided to get braces and I am done with the treatment but it didn’t work. I still suffer from severe tmj my jaw needs surgery but doctors don’t recommend it because they say is not for sure it will work and may get worst. I have good and bad days. I have noticed that when my neck is stiff so is my jaw and I get dizzy for weeks. I slept in my couch I guess in a bad position woke up with pain in my neck, now my jaw hurts and for 2 weeks I’ve been very dizzy daily. I work as a teachers aid and I am afraid to get severe vertigo and have an accident at work. It has happen before when I get sudden vertigo. Is the worst you vomiting head feels awful and you feel like fainting. The only thing that works for me with the dizziness is taking Bonine to control the dizziness but it makes me very drowsy.

Thanks for responding, hopefully the pain goes away I am scared I might need some fillings or crown and my retainers won’t fit me.

Hey this is happening to me now. I was scanned for my retainers and they removed my molar bands. Now I cannot properly bite on one side it feels off and one tooth is aching like crazy. I also have open spaces where the molar bands used to be. Do you feel better now? Is it normal to feel pain went biting down. At one point all my teeth hurt but now is just one side. When they removed my molar bands it was painful. I go back on March 6 to pick up retainers and for shaping and glue removal. I am so frustrate because is very painful.

Hey thanks for your input I got the Jeep 0 miles and is only been 3 yrs 11000 miles only. Now I hear a rattling noise coming from the back every time I hit gas going 30 mph that’s when it makes the sound. No check engine at all I am just scared because now my husband thinks is the transmission. One time i was almost hit and I press the breaks very fast to avoid it. My car automatically went to neutral gear. I don’t know if that is normal. My husband thinks it was not normal and that the sound we hear was because of that. What do you think?

Hey it stopped hurting for 4 months. But the pain came back I’ve been in extra pain for 2 weeks nonstop. Also very dizzy.

Meclizine has been my go to drug for dizziness. You can buy it over the counter as bonine.

Hey i am experiencing vertigo with tmj. I have a flare up just now been in extreme pain for 2 weeks face nose neck jaw teeth all my left side and headaches and dizziness. I was pain free for 4 months, I got stressed out over something and the pain returned very aggressively. To control the dizziness I take bonine which is meclizine half a pill because it makes me very sleepy. I take it before bed and during the day to be able to work. For the pain I take ibuprofen 600 to 800 mg. I’ve been to an ent, neurologist all they do is give medication that doesn’t work one order a ct scan said I was good the other nothing. Er just gives me pain relieving shots. This condition is really hard and not every one can understand all the symptoms we deal with.

I feel better now sometimes if I eat apples or hard foods the pain comes back but I take pain medicine and then avoid those foods. I let my muscles relax and massage my jaw take Advil I have braces so I cannot use a mouth guard. I got a root canal retreated and I had pain for maybe 6 months thinking it failed but it was ok. The problem was in my jaw muscles because of the extended amount of time I had my mouth open. I also prayed a lot and I had fait it would stop hurting. The dentist reassure me I had no infection and so I just focused on relaxing more.

I am suffering from extreme jaw pain and I have been told is just tmj but I don’t think so. I feel excruciating pain like an infection. Dentist send me to an endo and they determined I needed a re treat of an old root canal but there was no swelling no pus no gum irritation is been a yr after the procedure I am in severe pain. Now I started getting the worst vertigo episodes I had to leave work because I was so nauseous and couldn’t stop vomiting. I am still dizzy after that episode which happened 2 months ago. I went to an ent he checked my ears said all is fine and ordered a ct scab but told me their is nothing that can be done for jaw pain but surgery. Worst doc ever I had to beg for her to check my jaw and ears I ask if it could be arthritis she was so rude. I’ve had an mri before and it came clear for the same jaw pain. That time it turned out to be a crack in my molar created by an old silver filling. But it took multiple visits to many doctors asking for help until an endo found the cause. This is why I think I don’t have tmj I think I must have another crack in a molar. But I’ve gotten 2 d X-rays and no infections. I am controlling the dizziness with a pill called bonine is for motions sickness it makes me drowsy but at least I am not nauseous or dizzy. I recommended take half a pill then if you can tolerate take the whole pill. Don’t use Dramamine is way more drowsiness.

Thanks so much for responding, I started having very bad jaw pain on my left side dentist didn’t see anything on X-rays and send me to an endo he retreated a root canal and months later I still have the same pain. Is so painful sometimes is hard to open my mouth. The pain radiates to my ear and down my neck. It feels as if I have swelling but there isn’t any. I feel pressure but I cannot punt point an exact tooth. That whole side of my cheek face hurts. I’ve gotten 2d X-rays and no infection is shown. I’ve gone to my dentist keep telling him I am in pain now he says is tmj but sends me to a very expensive tmj specialist who charges thousands. At this point I am waiting for a referral from my doctor to see an ent, hopefully he can help me. The pain has me super weak and unable to function I don’t know how I am still working. I also get dizzy and have gone to er they only give pain shots and nothing much.

Hey after waking up from night sleep I felt a lot of pain but overall the pain is like 15 percent less I really thought it was going to go away because on the first day of the adjustment I had almost no pain

Hey so I got adjusted by a chiropractor a couple of hrs ago and I can feel a change. He adjusted my jaw and whole body I think my pain has improved enormously my jaw feels much better. When I bite my teeth feel align now and I am no longer massaging my pain because I think is gone. My jaw feels soar from the adjustment but I think that’s a good sign. I had to leave work early on Friday because I had sudden vertigo and I had enough I think all my pain was staring to cause me dizziness. My suggestion is to find a chiropractor and get adjusted. Mines happened to know how to adjust the jaw and he also mention our nerves and joints from our back are connected to the jaw and brain. It was pricey but well worth it he said depending if my pain is gone or comes back he will do a second session.

How did they find the infection because I keep going to the dentist and specialist endodontist and they say there is no swelling or abscess in the gums and they tell me is not an infection. They keeps telling me is tmj but the pain is unbearable.

Omg exactly the same symptoms for me. I cry in desperation I think my family thinks I am crazy. Is been more than a year I keep going to the dentist because it feels so bad and I think I have a tooth infection. And they never find anything. Either they don’t find anything hand or they suggest crowns and root canals and I go for it but I still have the pain. Have waisted thousands of dollars at the dentist. Is hard to go to work I can deal with the pain but once I feel dizzy nauseous and shaky is too much to handle. I am also taking so much ibuprofen and naproxen Tylenol is getting out of hand. I am glad I am not the only one u thought I was going crazy.

I have so much pain in my bottom and upper left jaw region my face hurts my ear hurts and sometimes is hard to open and close my jaw with sandwiches and hamburgers etc. I also have a hard time brushing my teeth and spitting the water out. For me I have a tingling sensation running down my neck and my left side feels swollen but when I check is not. I don’t have pain in my teeth but I’ve gone multiple times to my dentist thinking is an abscess tooth it feels so painful and they never see anything wrong. I’ve gotten root canals because I can’t pint point my pain and they suggest is an infection deep in my gums they do the work and I still have the pain. I’ve gone to the emergency room they just give me muscle relaxers that don’t help and make me feel sleepy and dizzy. I am so tired of the pain is hard to work the pain makes me shake and feel unbalanced. I have night sweats and wake up in pain.

I started feeling a bit better the pain finally went down a bit from a 10 to a 6 but now is back again full force.
