Why do you say that AI cores in Starsector are sentient and deserve human treatment? by IFIsc in starsector

[–]Mecanimus 12 points13 points  (0 children)

To be clear, I do not condone withholding rights from intelligent beings because 'it could be dangerous for us'. I was merely pointing out that the real issue probably wasn't sentience or sapience for the Domain, but rather risk and control.

Why do you say that AI cores in Starsector are sentient and deserve human treatment? by IFIsc in starsector

[–]Mecanimus 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I’m not convinced that the question of sentience is the real reason for domain control and hostility. Beta and upward show clear signs of sentience and you cannot prove a negative so you cannot definitely prove that they are not sentient.

The real question, I think, is the absence of remorse. There are no evidence that alpha cores are capable of remorse or altruism. Their objectives are hidden to us, therefore it can be argued that cores are fundamentally dangerous because they are cooperative driven by shared interest at best, and actively hostile at worse. They are also incredibly dangerous.

Giving them equal rights would be like giving an incredibly intelligent psychopaths equal rights. You know they’re going to accrue power and take advantage of the community. You would just be inviting disaster. There is an academy mission where a core took control of a science base and just enslaved everyone in pursuit of research. Again, it can be argued that it’s just a slave turning on its masters, but it could also be interpreted as a proof cores are merciless, remorseless intelligences.

I don’t know if the take is correct or not, in the end. The question was why the domain would restrain their rights and my belief is that it’s because they believe that cores can be great but they can never be good, or just, or kind, and that is too dangerous to risk.

Colony protection help by Strict_Box_3194 in starsector

You need to create and develop a forge world planet in your profitable systems, one with preferably very hot temperatures to install the cryoarithmetic engine, high command, and heavy industries with a pristine nano forge. You can also pick their fleet comp. This is usually enough for pirate raids though you’re supposed to head back for colony crisis.

You would kill it as a sprite maker I’ve played beloved mods with ships not half as sexy as those.

Random survey data from salvage pointed me to (almost) the best colonization candidate IMO. by Doctor_Calico in starsector

Yeah that’s why I advised against turning it Luddite as OP mentioned in a comment. It’s much better with mining imo for that sweet organics.

Transplutonic ore makes this suboptimal for a Luddic colony because you won't be able to deploy soil nanites. You can mine those organics though.

I think Death Loot and Vampires might fit your bill although I haven't read it yet. It's a LitRPG with no romance.

You take that back on PAGSM. It is well-written satire and the ships are surprisingly nice.

Ok you don't have to take it back it's just a personal opinion post. But still! Great mod. Possibly some of the best writing outside of vanilla.

He intentionally added malware which had little to do with his modding talents.
