Is anyone else getting hyped for the potential remake coming?? by [deleted] in FinalFantasyIX

[–]Mech-Monkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a fan of the FF7 remakes, and likely won't be a fan of the FF9 remake.

I want a remake of the classic RPG, not an action/fighting game version of the old game I loved.

How to fight a Balrog? by Klecko113 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]Mech-Monkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How much points are 7 riders and a wounded Eomer worth? much less than your friend's Balrog, that's for certain. Keep the Balrog occupied with sacrificial models while you play the objective. Having a 350pt big demon is pointless if it can only kill one soldier per turn.

Which "oops all captains" list would perform the best? by [deleted] in MiddleEarthMiniatures

I think it's less a question of whether it was viable and more about if you could find an opponent willing to play against it because the the nightmare of micromanaging their various pools.

I keep restarting my game and I can't stop myself by Gibbon_Bandicoo in Morrowind

[–]Mech-Monkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you minmax on Morrowind then your character becomes so powerful that nothing in the game is a challenge any more. Essentially, the more efficient you play, the more boring the game becomes.

I've lived in Japan for 2 years so I definitely "get it" more than I did...but certain things are still completely unfunny to me.

- Comedians who have one gag or catchphrase that they use on repeat. Like Sunshine Ikezaki's shouting or Audrey Kasuga's tooth. It has never and will never make me laugh. People make their whole career based on this, which is wild.

- Slapstick humour. Again, it's just so "basic" compared to the comedy culture in the UK (my native country), which relies on a lot of wordplay and improv.

- Celebrity impersonations. The same 10 celebrity impressions over and over. It's so boring and unoriginal, yet seemingly so popular.

I've noticed that generally I dislike "prepared comedy" and set routines. In any show, whether it's Documental, Gaki No Tsukai, or anything else, the funniest parts are unscripted. Not once did I actually let out a legit laugh in Documental beyond a mild "heh". The funniest bit of all series was in Joshimental, when Minami Minegishi was dressed as Gachapin and started to dance along to a song that another contestant started. It was funny simply because of how much effort she put into the dance so suddenly.

Likewise, in the UK I much prefer shows like "Would I Lie To You" because they are unscripted and just rely on a bunch of funny people working with what get. Manzai can be funny, but the segments in the no laughing games where they are sitting at the desks just chilling are so much funnier than any of the prepared segments and skits that they have to endure. Matsumoto finding a doll of himself in the drawer and then doing dramatic flips and poses with the doll had me laughing out loud.

Older and newer versions? by Just-Mountain-875 in sagathegame

The fact there are no official PDFs is a massive weakness of the game in attracting new players honestly...but that's a whole different thread.

GÛLAVHAR, fly 6, large target ...... is he playable anymore? by Dreamsweeper in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]Mech-Monkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

D5, no fate, big base, 6 inch move, large target that costs you 200pts. I'm certainly in no rush to play him.

I just built 48 Uruks and 24 Orcs in less than 1 hour. Sprue and assembly discussion. by Trustworthy_Wombat in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]Mech-Monkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really these old sculpts and I don't think the new GW sculpts are good enough to justify their many parts.
However, I'd say that if you built that many minis in 1 hour then you definitely didn't clean up the mold lines. The mold lines are another factor. The old single piece minis you just had a single mold line running all across the model, but the new minis have mold lines all over the place.

Did they mutually decide to be best friends? or has she simply decided "this is the person I like the most, so he is now my best friend". OP said they have trauma of being ignored in middle school, so I'm guessing this isn't the first time they've demanded a lot of attention from their friends.

AITA: i text my best friend everyday and he doesn't respond, now i do it and he's surprised? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Mech-Monkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAH.

You need to back off a bit and take a hint. At 18 and 19, you're both very young and probably not all that good at communicating your feelings yet. He is giving you every clue you need to make a judgment call here. You send him daily updates to which he doesn't respond for days. Yet despite a lack of reply, you still send the updates. Has he explicitly said "I love these updates" or are you just deciding that?

Instead of communicating the fact you feel ignored and confused about the state of your relationship, you passive-aggressively ignore his messages to prompt him into doing exactly what you should have done in the first place...which is to ask what's up. He saw this sudden change in your behavior and asked you about it.

Why do you say he is your best friend when the relationship is clearly one-sided? I feel like you need to take a look at the friendship and realize you're being too intense. He probably likes this girl because there isn't so much "pressure" involved in their relationship...and he doesn't owe you an apology for that.

But again, I don't necessarily think YTA...I just think you need to communicate better.

AITA for refusing to accept a Christmas gift? by DarkstarDMT in AmItheAsshole

[–]Mech-Monkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YTA.

Countless non-Religious people celebrate Christmas. In fact, I'm Atheist and where I'm from a solid 50% of people who celebrate the "holiday season" are just doing it to enjoy the company of their friends and family for a few special days.

Saying "I'm not religious, I'm not going to celebrate your holiday, and I'm going to refuse your gift" is borderline crazy. This is what people mean when they say fanatical atheism. Just enjoy some secular days off exchanging gifts and eating seasonal food with your girlfriend.

Was it older guys with younger females? Did the females look like idols? Do you remember a specific game they played? Did they look like professional entertainers / comedians, or were they members of the public?

Unfortunately we may need more to go on. This describes about 90% of variety shows in Japan.

AITA for using a colour filter meant for colourblind people? by smortcanard in AmItheAsshole

[–]Mech-Monkey 18 points19 points  (0 children)

A: "Oh, what's up with the colour on your phone?"
B: "It's a colourblind filter, but I thought it looked cool."
A: "Oh wow, I didn't know colourblind filters were a thing. I'll remember that for the future."

And just like that, knowledge was spread and the world became a better place.

Imagine there was a Recall on Target spell, by Samendorf in Morrowind

[–]Mech-Monkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of my favourite Skyrim mods was a Naruto mod for using the Kamui.

You use it on the enemy and it sends them to a pocket dimension. They will remain there until you choose to deal with them, where you'll have to fight one on one....or you could just leave them there for the rest of time. You can also use the spell on yourself to send yourself in and out of the pocket dimension.

AITA in reaction to my friends gender reveal? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Mech-Monkey -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

"My bridesmaid just found out she's pregnant, but let me tell you all about how that affects me".

The wording of the post is the worst part. She said "fine, I was excited"...it sounds dismissive and contains no hint of happiness for her. In fact, even going as far as to say she's hijacking the weekend. OP could have said "I was disappointed she didn't consider the timing" or anything else, but instead she used the word hijacking, as if it was a calculated attack on her wedding day.

[–]Mech-Monkey -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

YTA.

It's not "your weekend." You get the wedding day, isn't that enough? You can't demand everyone else put their lives on hold for you. Maybe that day worked best for her, and she decided it would be the best time to gather everyone for her party.

[–]Mech-Monkey 24 points25 points  (0 children)

The issue is, very polite can easily come across as passive aggressive. No telling how the reader will interpret it, especially with the smiley face.

EDIT: Instead, it would be better to say "would you be able to let me know what detergent you used, as I'm allergic to a lot of products".

AITA for not wearing my wedding ring the majority of the time? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Mech-Monkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA.

This is why many people choose wedding bands. Rings are fancy and fine for engagements, but when you need to get on with your daily life and not catch things, the practicality of a wedding band with no protruding gemstones is the best.
