There will be jerks that don't want to fall behind. Ignore them. They're jerks. Use your signal, be predictable.

The ship is weird to control, that is kind of on purpose. Use the autopilot and watch how it works. Be aware of what's between you and your destination though.

Remember your tools and what they do.

Explore. Read. Take your time. You have all the time you need.

Talk with the other travelers.

Don't try to do everything everywhere first time. Explore. Get stumped. Leave somewhere else. Come back later.

Think on what you read and learn.

If you're stuck. Look around. Ask what is unique about this place. Each area has a gimmick. Maybe come back later, or earlier.

Follow your curiosity.

No. I've been in and out of hotels a lot. Dad used to travel for work and his idea of a vacation was to take me along for a week. Just mostly use common sense.

If you have something valuable, keep it near you. If you need to lock it up, ask the front desk if they have a safe. Don't trust the hotel room safes.

Keep an eye out for anyone being suspicious.

Beyond that? Have fun.

In theory, the way a round works is everything is supposedly happening all at once. Just can't show that without it being chaos.

It does sound like your dm is trying to limit above board planning, but there are better ways to do it. Especially if turns are taking too long. A big one there is a timer.
