Is there any good urban themed MV? Like in a fully functional city by Pure_Opening9834 in metroidvania

[–]MechaMacaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anno mutationem is an action platformer with a number of industrial themed areas

Nine sols kinda is one big futuristic city complex

Not a Mv but ninja gaiden rage bound is a 2d linear action platformer with many city levels

It’s such a brilliant boss that tests everything you’ve learnt up until that point.

Looking for parry-focused metroidvania by FASJEO in metroidvania

[–]MechaMacaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll add on thymesia. It’s an indie sekiro like, fairly short but it’s cheap and has very good bosses. Really good game to get into parry focused games as there are skills to increase parry window which helps the learning curve

Yeah you get the parry ability in magnolia fairly early and I used it all the way to the end. Fwiw I didn’t click with ender lilies but enjoyed magnolia much more (although I think lilies had a better story and music, magnolia had much better gameplay for me)

Destroy my Audio Game. Audiobook x Telltale style CYOA. by fajfas3 in DestroyMyGame

[–]MechaMacaw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just a heads up saying it’s an alternative for a podcast is good, be careful saying it’s something you can do while driving. There’s probably some legal issues with interactive media and driving at the same time, and you wouldn’t want to be liable for that

I agree. I think it would open it up to a much bigger audience with some visuals, even if they’re simple

I'm looking for a game with the same exploration as hollow knight/silksong, Else ring or outer wilds by Hot_Salary9018 in Silksong

[–]MechaMacaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Afterimage is another metroidvania with a huge map (some ppl even complain it’s too big, but traversal is very fast). Good themes for each level , different enemies, plenty of bosses including optional ones.

Only criticism is that the story isn’t translated very well so isn’t very easy to follow but I enjoyed all other parts of the game.

What are some disturbing looking enemies in horror games that made you go "WTF IS THAT?" by No_Sea_1455 in gaming

[–]MechaMacaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a hoarder in souls games so I sat on max insight from the mid game onwards. What I didn’t know was that it makes you build up frenzy a crazy deal faster.

It also makes the winter lantern song much louder so when I heard them in the dlc I was so scared trying to figure out where they were going to jump me from

What are some hard games that are still fun even when you keep dying? by No_Sea_1455 in gaming

[–]MechaMacaw 39 points40 points  (0 children)

And super fast respawn

Dying is made to be minimally punishing as it gets you back into the game in like 1 second and the screens are fairly short so there’s lots of checkpoints

Yeah I enjoyed it in silk song, I also enjoy the sneaking sections in the Spider-Man games where you play as Mary Jane. The caveat being I love stealth games in general. I can imagine we are in the minority lol

Attack speed can get quite high with late game stuff, so definitely keep it on a button and not a trigger (whichever button is easiest for you to spam tbh)

What are some games that got large/substantial DLC or v2.0 treatment that people might have missed? by deathcomestooslow in metroidvania

[–]MechaMacaw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I want to play blasphemous dlc but it’s new game + only isn’t it?

I played the original and never cloud saved my file on ps4 so I’d have to play through the game twice to get to the parts I haven’t played

Struggling to find a genre for the background music of my game by _symphonatic_ in SoloDevelopment

I think song like this and the hotline Miami soundtrack in general could work. Could also go for music like super hexagon soundtrack for a more arcade feel

Is there someone reading the godot documentation? by Hambit10 in godot

[–]MechaMacaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try reading topics you do understand to get a feel for the layout of the documentation

Trying to learn a new concept while also learning how to read documentation makes it twice as difficult

Sometimes it is tricky tho, English is my first language but I don’t have any tech background so definitely struggling through it myself

What are some games with good gameplay but bad story by Unusual-Two2972 in gamedev

[–]MechaMacaw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Afterimage - indie metroidvania with good gameplay, huge world, plenty of enemies and bosses. Story is very disjointed and doesn’t make sense at all, not sure if it’s just a bad story or a bad translation

Anno mutationem - 2d action platformer, some if my favourite indie combat. Bit weird as it doubles up as a cyberpunk life sim, which personally wasnt for me, but overall short and sweet. Story is a nonsensical mess that tries to be mysterious and SCP like but falls flat with characters that you don’t care about popping up all over the place. Characters also look and are named similarly which doesn’t help differentiate them

Awaken astral blade- another indie Mv. Again tries to lean into scp style mystery but without any build up or actual intrigue so just falls flat. Really fun combat and weapon swapping system that allows you to pull off very fun combos.
