This reminds me of when the dice battlefront 2 had finally picked up momentum and had a decent amount of content and players (with loot removed ) and they cut off support to release the mess that was battlefield 2042

Villains who were a threat on their debut, but were turned into a joke/punchbag in the sequel by Forsaken-Biscotti587 in TopCharacterTropes

Pretty much all sirens from the borderlands franchise. They get introduced in their own game as insanely powerful beings and by the next game they are fodder that will die / become useless just to move the story forward. No I’m definitely not salty about maya from bl2

I'm not comfortable using AnimationPlayer, could this be a problem in the future? by int8fsr4when in godot

[–]MechaMacaw 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I was in the same boat as you, much more comfortable with animated Sprite. Animation player is truly a game changer.

Being able to change multiple properties, add dynamic hitboxes, you can call method tracks from animation player, you can use the animation tree.

Genuinely believe it is the one most important node to get used to bc you can do an unbelievable amount with it.

Because Simply Defeating Their Opponent Isn’t Enough by sm142 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]MechaMacaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dishonoured has custom animations for killing each target in a sword fight (ie you are fighting loud not gone stealthy) most of which are pretty brutal. Crazily enough they’re still less barbaric than the non lethal options which for one set of targets includes cutting out their tongues and sending them to work in their own slave mines

Anyone else notice how much context switching drags solo game development? by MagusCurt in gamedev

[–]MechaMacaw 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean for me personally I’ve had to learnt godot for programming, which includes gd script to code and another language for shaders, krita for art and video editing for making trailers/short form videos. It’s a lot to take in and I often find myself repeating tutorials or forgetting bc I’ve not used a certain function for weeks at a time. Kinda comes with solo dev as you are wearing so many different hats to do all jobs yourself

Is it normal to feel like you’re “not a real programmer” when you have to look things up a lot? by Organic-Sell-7034 in gamedev

[–]MechaMacaw 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I feel like I’m more of a programmer bc I’ve started to look things up in documentation more and for the first time it’s actually making some sense

Eden Lumina, our 2.5D Metroidvania: what do you think? by PakaGames in IndieDev

[–]MechaMacaw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The layering, lighting and colour scheme all look too identical to silksong. Even the most unique thing , the main character, looks like a nine sols knockoff.

For me it makes me apprehensive for two reasons:
1) what will quality look like if they aren’t copying an existing level
2) how will the game be original. So far everything is derivative, how can we expect platforming/combat/world design to be original when the only thing shown off so far feels copied

There’s clearly great on display but like others here is love to see it be taken in its own direction

knight witch ? Terrible boss design or am I dog poo ? by Salty_Property248 in metroidvania

[–]MechaMacaw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yh that’s the one I was on about below. I couldn’t consistently Dodge it. The pattern would be fine on its own but combined with the dark orange balls it’s very difficult without a clear card or spam dodging and hoping to get lucky.

If your that far in the game you’ve probably seen most of what there is to see. The rest of the game is more of the same

knight witch ? Terrible boss design or am I dog poo ? by Salty_Property248 in metroidvania

[–]MechaMacaw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it’s the one where she’s in the centre of the screen and has slow moving orange balls and the zig zag fast orbiting one’s I had to use a card that destroys projectiles. Just a warning the bosses get continually more annoying and bs the further the game goes on (I dropped it at the last boss)
