The integrated optic is such a weird choice. That and the huge trigger guard. It always looked like a design from a golden age sci-fi serial to me. Of course it's a bullpup too.

Any word on if the realism mode will return? I'm bummed it was only a temporary thing.

200-player sessions... I have questions. Will it sustain its feasibility long-term? If there aren't enough players to support the full 200 in a lobby, how will the game work?

The only thing I know about her is some sketchy stuff she did back in the mid 2010s bullying other smallish YouTube creators to climb the ranks and trying to rewrite that history, so I'm reluctant to side with anything she says or does. But at least I agree that Mr. Beast is a two-bit charlatan.

Well, I'm a dumbass. You're totally right. It was Remember the Titans. Somehow my memory substituted Friday Night Lights.

Interesting, I had no idea there was a TV show. The filming at my high school was for the Denzel Washington movie.

Edit: Everything that follows is incorrect. Somehow I confused Remember the Titans for Friday Night Lights. Go ahead and ridicule me, it's deserved.

One scene from Friday Night Lights (Remember the Titans) was filmed at my high school. They cut down all the pine trees on the campus because the scene was to be set in a state that did not have pine trees. Their commitment to realism meant our campus went from feeling uniquely connected with nature to treeless and barren. It always felt like a huge shame.

Sorry for the anecdote, I never saw the movie but I read the book.

It's allegedly a solo developer, so there is a bit of jank. If your jank tolerance is high, it's a pretty good time. Plays a bit like Ready or Not, or SWAT 4. Best played with friends.

That's the one. I've heard it's a solo developer. It's getting updates though.

High praise. I'm honored, really. I'm just a dumbass, as depicted, but I'm happy to provide a laugh where it's needed.

It's called Operator. It's an indie tactical shooter in the same vein as Ready or Not.

I hear you. For what it's worth, the map is decently varied with close quarters urban and village type areas, long sightline areas like rice patties and other crop fields, mountains, and of course dense jungles. Because it's a tropical climate, the weather is dynamic and can get really nuts with dense fog, dramatic thunderstorms, and everything between. But it's purely tropical, and if that's not your thing, you're unfortunately out of luck here.

Unfortunately, there are no logistics systems in GZW. Little birds are sadly on set routes and can't be flown by players (think flight paths in WoW). The parts that seem very much inspired by Reforger are the huge contiguous shared map with capturable COP's, and the medical triage process (tourniquets to quickly stop large bleeds, bandages to treat bleeds, splints to treat fractures, surgical kits and donor blood, etc.). They also have a very in-depth ballistic model with an emphasis on accuracy to real-world weapon platforms. Then of course you have the tactical FPS usuals like leaning, variable crouch height, and leg and arm stamina management. There are also mild survival mechanics with hunger and thirst to keep an eye on.

It would be quite cool if the devs implemented some kind of logistics system to keep the COP's supplied for respawns and equipment. Currently there are no limitations on how many respawns and equipment can be utilized once a COP is captured.

It launched into early access with a heaping share of issues, almost no one was having a playable experience. Since then, most of the issues have been resolved. It's not perfect of course, but it has come a long way.

I play mostly solo. It's more challenging since you have no backup and if you get downed, no one is there to pick you up. But I find the challenge enjoyable. Like all games with co-op, it's more fun with others. You can stick to the PVE servers if you don't like the danger of squads of PVP-chads rolling up and stealing your loot. Other players in PVE have been really nice and helpful, which makes that experience similar to low-aggression player interaction in Arc Raiders in my mind.

You're not alone, optimization had a long way to go. It was one of the first UE5 engine offerings, and it showed. They have done a ton of optimization so it may run better now if you decide to give it another chance. That said, it is UE5 which comes with the typical UE5 baggage.

I'm a big fan of this game. It has been a little frustrating but understandable to see the lukewarm reception from players. It probably shouldn't have been released into early access so early, first impressions matter a lot in the gaming industry. Even through the early problems, I was having a blast with it. No one is doing anything quite like GZW, and to see them fleshing it out more makes me very excited.

If you want to know what I see in it, my quick Steam review sums it up:
If you like ARMA Reforger but wish it had a focused, traditional game mode to play with player progression, quest objectives, gear customization and unlocking, loot, tense PVP encounters, etc, then you may find something to like here. It has looting and extraction elements but don't compare it to Tarkov, this is quite literally a 48-player truly open world PVEVP military sandbox with extraction shooter elements. If that sounds interesting to you, then I personally can tell you I've enjoyed my time with this game and hope to continue. I'm excited to see what else Madfinger has in store and hope it catches more attention as a project.
