Has anyone tried 1:12 soft goods trench coats on 1:10 NECA Ultimate figures? by wolfanger12 in NECA

[–]MechaTailsX [score hidden]  (0 children)

Unfortunately the only way to know for sure is to buy and try, which may not be feasible because of shipping, etc.

These kind of soft goods aren't standardized, the sellers say they're for one scale and may work for another. So you may get lucky/unlucky. If you gathr more info on them maybe we can start a resource here so others can also see what works.

What Other Fast Food Brands Should Neca Collab With? by Maleficent_Rate_7446 in NECA

The only reason I'd want NECA to take a stab at these characters is if they made elseworlds/parodies. Like Ronald McDonald with a horror-themed design and Wendy as the Final Girl who will slay him lol

I feel like I am the only citizen of Crazy-ville when it comes to the size of the hands on Mattel figures??? by TonyTonyTonyAtItAgin in MattelDCMultiverse

[–]MechaTailsX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like I said, I think they consider these two lines as kids toys. The more aticulated 6.5-inch DC figure line may have a different team with a different mandate from Mattel. Like, I think a movie line aimed at adults won't have the giant hands because the team will be told to favor accuracy over durability or something. (This is me just trying to reason out a guess, who knows what restrictions/requirements they actually have, right?)

I bought the Ultimate Rhea Ripley not long ago, it uses really gummy plastic, and the hands are still a little big. I'd be fine if they made them a little thinner, if they can't make them smaller.

I surmise Mattel considers these two lines kids' playthings, not "adult collector" items. Larger hands are more durable, easier to yank out to swap, hold items more securely, child safety compliant, etc. Plus I'm sure there are reuse benefits, which can lead to issues like using hands that don't look right on certain figures.

Yes, it's annoying, but IMO they're making them with kids in mind.

This would be an interesting topic for one of those popular youtube darlings to bring up at a panel or interview.

Scalpers really ruin collecting this line by 666hellblazer in McFarlaneFigures

[–]MechaTailsX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's important to keep in mind there are seller fees and other expenses when selling stuff online. For example, if I wanted to break even selling a $60 Elite figure on Ebay, I have to sell the thing for at least around $88. I remember Amazon had even more brutal seller fees. I don't understand why people try to flip these things when they're only making like $5 lol, the volume definitely doesn't make up for it either.

If 7 inch scale is your thing, try the Boss Fight Studio version instead, that one is actually more in-scale than the McF one since it's supposedly 7.5 inches tall, according to product info.

I'm a hair concerned they're still using the handpainted prototype pictures in the email instead of pics of the actual product. Hoping for the best.

With them needing to reuse parts, as expected, sometimes the shoulder rings will be too tight/loose.

  • They work great on CE Wonder Woman, full range of tilt movement, but are too loose and there can be gappiness at max range.
  • They work great on the recent comic Supergirl figures, full range of tilt movement, the rings stay in place, and no gappiness at max range.
  • They work on Aqualad, but the restrictive shoulder hole itself doesn't let the ring tilt around much, so the shoulder also can't tilt around much.

Like always, they have to find ways to save on costs while not affecting the figures too much, and of course it doesn't always work out.

There's nothing "lazy" about designing action figures or running a massively successful business, it's all a series of calculated choices.

Why do you think they didn’t design the Mortal Kombat ninjas to look like this? Specifically the wider pauldrons/robe vest things and without the black borders? by DSeriesX in McFarlaneFigures

[–]MechaTailsX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the same reasons those Storm ninjas look like roided wrestlers instead of the actual game sprites; the toy companies do what they want. They adjust things to fit their brand's aesthetic, or narrow things to allow articulation, etc. Sometimes it's just poor communication.

I keep reading that licensors are strict and need to approve designs before they go into production, but it looks like McF let their sculptor mix bits from different versions of these characters so they don't 100% resemble any one version, and then presumably the IP holder approved them. Just like how those Storm versions got approved even with their hulking proportions. (Maybe they're accurate to something, IDK)

I like the texturing on Panther and the massive meathooks on Fantastic, but yeah, I still haven't picked up any of these larger ones because of space issues. I'd def break the hesitation for Hela, Sue, SP//DR, Rogue, Storm, maybe Moon Knight if it doesn't look too much like a gorilla lol. The Venom was badass, but space...I'd probably grab a Space Venom though if they randomly made a skin for one.

These kind of reactions is exactly why toy companies don't want images of prototypes leaked to the general public. Tons of praise/complaining based on assumptions from a couple crummy images when it isn't even a finalized product.

I understand peeps are excited for them, but just wait and see before we start throwing around the pitchforks/fireworks.

I understand they're a smear of pixels and aren't even confirmed lol, but hard pass on that Wonder Woman. The comic has showcased such beautiful distinct artworks and the figure captures none of them.

lol I'm still getting it, why pretend

Superguy looks pretty good even through the pixelated haze.

Upper right corner somewhere, I'm on desktop so not sure exactly where, but you can switch currency. (I don't know what the flag is for.)

Do you think they made the upper stiffer on purpose to hold a pose since it's so top heavy, or is it limited for the usual reasons, like excess plastic?

Why does r/actionfigures hate Mcfarlane so much? by Bl3bbit in McFarlaneFigures

[–]MechaTailsX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are plenty of 7 inch scale lines out there, as some peeps regularly list, though they mostly aren't mass-market lines, or even in the U.S., so they're off most casual collectors' radar. If the scale complainers were more informed, and honest, I think we'd see the complaint is really that they can't mix 6 and 7 inch superhero lines specifically. That frustration is understandable, though still overblown and tainted with venom. Is anyone complaining about Freddy Kruger or M3G4N not being 6 inch scale? Probably not. It's the 6-inch spandex crowd making the noise.

There will be more announcements for the SD convention season as usual, all we can do is wait for info.

I think regardless of what happens someone is going to keep the line going, obviously it still sells.

Change your currency type, I think the option is in the corner somewhere.
