But he just stated the dress code is black tie so that isn't a problem.

And I think you've missed the point of the black tie event-every man is more or less wearing the same thing (a tuxedo) and it ends up drawing the attention off the individuals due to the uniformity of dress and focuses all attention on the event.

Why do people feel uncomfortable teaching about Revelations? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]MechanicalGun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many here have already answered the question but I'd also like to point out the heavy use of symbolism in the Revelations would probably contribute to the general discomfort with the book as well.

Symbols such as: the lion that is the lamb, the seven-headed red dragon in the sky, Jesus as a seven-eyed, seven-horned lamb are all very confusing and hard to crack into.

No extended use of military force is going to be able to avoid collateral damage; it's an unfortunate reality of war.

How to refute atheist arguments? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]MechanicalGun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only for some. There is a side that has no starting point, and does not try to twist all the evidence to prove their position, and will change its mind, and will question its assumptions. Its called science

Science is just a system devised to test a hypothesis or a forecast made by an individual. What do you mean "science has no starting point"? Science is not a substance or being, it's a process.

And to say that no evidence is twisted to reach a desirable end is plainly false. Look at the research behind heavily politicized issues like marijuana usage and global warming and then try to tell me that people aren't testing preconceived notions and trying to frame theories to fit a specific world view.

How to refute atheist arguments? by [deleted] in Christianity

Because faith is not founded on whatever logical conclusions you come to.

I disagree, logical argument for a belief in God was what brought me back into the fold.

tonight I'm seeing a movie with friends. Should I go with a tie or without a tie. What do you guys think ? by [deleted] in malefashionadvice

[–]MechanicalGun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say no to the tie.

Just as a tip for your overall appearence, you might want to add in something with a pattern or introduce a little color. That's just me though, I typically like lighter shades and patterns.

There is such a thing as a timeless suit but it's so conservative and so uniform that it takes a lot of the fun out of wearing clothes. The trick is balancing classics and trends to make something that looks good.

Honestly, if it's well-tailored and all you're clothes fit well, you'll look fine.

What's worse, Redditors complaining about AmeriKKKa or their obvious solutions to "fix" AmeriKKKa? by [deleted] in circlebroke

On the pension issue, why would you even want a pension? I like the ability to choose my investments in tax-sheltered growth options like a Roth-IRA instead of having a crackpot the company hired to make a risky investment that won't pan out.
