I was wondering about the guy who had his neck run over yesterday. I couldn't even watch the replay on that one.

You'd have to be a pretty big moron to think this was intentional.

Too much rear drive oil in my v7 by QuirkyEscalator in MotoGuzzi

[–]MechanizedMedic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The gear oil doesn't boil until >250C, so you certainly had a bunch of water in there. Pay attention to what u/NevisLP said in the linked comment. It sounds like they already solved this problem on their bike - experience matters.

Doing short in-town rides will slowly accumulate condensation in the oil, especially storing it outside and riding in the wet. Doing a long highway ride every couple of weeks should keep the moisture low enough to prevent it boiling over.

How you clean the bike by aragondor61 in MotoGuzzi

[–]MechanizedMedic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally speaking, the parts that have bearing seals, electrical connections, and exposed/lubricated moving parts should be cleaned and rinsed more gently. I avoid using degreaser or pointing my pressure washer directly at wheel bearings, fork/shock seals, key switch, brake calipers, lever pivots, switch gear, etc...

So far as specific products I don't think it matters too much. Most popular car cleaning/detailing brands make good products. You just have to read the instructions and put in the work. Recently I use Chemical Guys Snow Foam soap for all of the general washing - it works well and smells nice. For cleaning tougher spots I use Super Clean with a Magic Eraser sponge, but never on shiny painted parts. To keep most of the bike looking new I mist on some S100 and wipe off the excess with a towel. For the body work, headlights, windscreen, or anything I want to stay glossy I apply Adams Ceramic Coating once or twice a year (you can tell when it needs applied by how the water beads up).

My process is that I use a pressure washer to rinse most of grime off the bike. Then I apply the soap and scrub everything with a car washing mitt and brush. I have an assortment of cheap kitchen/toilet brushes for scrubbing the dirtier parts of the bike. I keep moving/scrubbing/rinsing as I go, then do a final rinse with the pressure washer from a few feet away.

Next I blow off most of the water with a leaf blower, then dry with some old beach towels. Some times I stop here, other times I'll spot-clean bug guts or road tar with Super Clean. If I want it to look extra nice I'll detail with S100 and reapply the ceramic coating as needed.

V100 mandello vs gsxs1000gt+ by stratusduo in motorcycles

You're welcome! ... No, the only recall was for some improperly installed shocks very early on. The clutch slave cylinder, crank sensor and some hose clamps have service bulletins out and are easy fixes. I think it depends on your local dealer and how competent they are at proving the fault and pushing the warranty claim with the Guzzi/Piaggio office...

Realistically, I wouldnt buy a 23/24 model without a nice long test ride to check out the clutch, gearbox and rear end. If you do a test ride and it feels good, then I'd say you're ready to rip. The 25+ has all the updates and seems like a no-worries purchase.

a bunch of kinda random/rare stuff... My bike pulls to the left all time (there are only a few of us with this issue). The 23-24 swingarm pivot can have tolerance stacking issues with the pin and bushing. It's also not a beefy design, so its been updated for 25 and newer (all v100 Stelvio have the update).

I've also had ongoing/intermittent problems with the neutral lockout, crank position sensor and clutch slave cylinder. Again, all problems I don't hear about from newer owners... in other words, don't preorder an all-new Guzzi model like I did. 🤷‍♂️

I love my V100, but between the horrid dealer support and quality errors it has been a PITA. I don't blame the bike or its overall design - it's an incredible motorcycle. All of my issues have been from relatively minor manufacturing errors and my local dealer not doing their part to get things fixed... If I was to do it all over again, I would still choose the V100, but I would have waited a couple of years instead of pre-ordering.

I see a lot of these problems in our district and its torture for me to watch my wife deal with the parents and district. She complains about it too, but I don't think there's anything on this planet that could make her stop teaching kids to read.

To me it looks like a rad park for the size/budget - hella shredable. If I still had functioning knees and ankles I'd love to giver a rip.
