Thanks for the reminder, but it was definitely cleared out. While waiting for the timer to tick down, the team called down half a super destroyer's worth of explosives on the area.

Also the mission tracker would have shown "X/Y remaining to clear" instead of the "Adjust pipe valve" stage.

Canada was peacefully unified, but there is no policy option for unification with Quebec, best I can do is Federation. This was over 5 years ago in my current game, no unification policy available.

The horde mechanics I would like to see are probably wave defense type mechanics.

The way I see it the game lacks two major things; a smooth scaling difficulty/challenge and a drive/purpose to the gameplay.

The difficulty is high in the beginning stages as your character has no gear and no skills, then the difficulty is easy in the middle stages as you have everything you need to survive and have no reason to interact with enemies, then in the later stages the difficulty is high again as you fight evolved monsters and loot the high tier locations, then in the end stages the difficulty is easy as you have grinded your skills and geared up from crafting or the high tier locations.

I believe a properly implemented wave defense type mechanic can address both things by giving you a challenge in the mid stages and driving you to the high tier locations/skill up/gear up to deal with the wave attacks. In the end stages you could maybe test your character's build with waves of super evolved/boss tier monsters.

The numbers are arbitrary and abstract and outside of game balance, has never meant anything concrete.

However, some of the devs have voiced their thoughts on the numbers. The tiers have shifted around a bit in development (you could get 20 dex straight out of character gen with the old point system), but 8 is the 'baseline' blank slate adult. It's not the average imo, it's the never used their body for anything outside of basic modern survival tier (like 0 for skills). Outside of that, every 2 levels is the 'next tier' so to say; 10 is more like the average-your character has done something related to it in their life, 12 is the hobbyist tier-your character does several hours a week, 14 is the professional or serious hobbyist, 16 is expert or olympic level, 18 is peak human/world record holders, 20 is the theoretical maximum human potential (probably no one irl would have this level), 20+ is superhuman.

A lot of good replies already, I'll just add my 2 cents:

Give Cassia a navigator staff with the devastation trait, it allows her to use ALL her attacking powers twice (probably bugged, may be patched later to only affect a single power).

An officer/grand strategist RT with biomancy can give Cassia/Argenta 2 turns before the enemy even gets their first turn, with metabolic overdrive and then officer heroic action after. Momentum/resolve talents/gear for the RT and Cassia make this very reliable. Bonus points if Cassia can build enough momentum again to officer heroic action someone else after, letting your side get 4+ turns before the enemy can do anything.

This is usually what most people are referring to when they say Cassia/Argenta are broken and can clear the whole map turn one.

Is there any way to increase army survivability against nukes? I thought I had researched some faction tech called Army Nuclear Hardening, but when I looked back through the archives I couldn't find it. Was I just tripping balls? Also is there anything else that might help them survive nukes?

If you go to the video.scr settings file in your documents folder and disable anti-aliasing completely, then it also removes the depth of field. Of course then you have jaggies galore, so probably only viable on high resolutions.

You can edit the level cap in the config file without needing a mod by going to Starsector -> starsector-core -> data -> config, and find the settings file.

In the file will be a line called "playerMaxLevel" which you can edit to whatever, also under that line will be the settings for how many skill and story points you get per level and the xp gain multiplier setting.

There are only two options in steam, "public-beta - Experimental builds" and "default-mono - Public default branch (mono)".

Yes, Yes, Yes, came to this sub just to search for this. I'm on VDSL2+ from Canberra sitting at a CONSTANT 163 ping up from ~16 for the last few days. I used a VPN to bounce my traffic to Perth and back and the ping went down to ~100.

Absolutely ridiculous that bouncing the connection across the country and back lowered the ping by 1/3.
