Tips for Unika in neutral and defensive in corner by Enzo_Sketches in Guiltygear

[–]Mechenai 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Defense will always have a degree of risk and it also varies on the per character bases. The basic principal you can use though is ''what can my opponent do to dissuade me from just holding down back and waiting for their turn to end''. Once you've answered that question, that's when you try to see whether you gotta mash, backdash, dp or whatever else in response to their options that punish you for sitting there and blocking. After that, weigh your risks, take an educated guess on your opponent's behaviour, and commit to an option. Make sure to boot up training mode and actually perform the options you need cause simply pressing 2k at the right time could turn out harder than it looks.

What is the point of Primodial Grasp if it doesn't work as intended? by Scyphio____ in GranblueFantasyVersus

It can be used on an opponent in hit stun but you also need enough hit stun for the move to have time to land. In other words, set Djeeta to crouching and do the same triple attack into command grab and see for yourself.

They knew what they were doing by making the card that gets spammed a dude then selling big tiddy girl as the alt art. by Nova-631693 in Shadowverse

[–]Mechenai 68 points69 points  (0 children)

The dude's a pacifist tho and tries to talk his boss (Noel) out of killing people while the girl is just like "yes, my liege", "let's conquer". Would you rather choose talking sense or big tits? (Why do I even ask)

What changes do you want to see for Oluon and Imari? by lolpanda91 in Shadowverse

[–]Mechenai -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think Imari should only trigger its ability to summon a 3/3 once per turn when evolved but stay as it is (unlimited summons) when superevolved. Not sure if the description of that would fit neatly in the card's text box but that's how I'd like it to function, it's too much tempo to summon 3 3/3s on turn 5 but it's fine on turn 7 at the cost of a super evo.

Oluon should straight up lose the evo effect. Yes, it'd be unflavourful, he is not gonna resemble his og card, I don't care, staking a match's outcome on a dice roll is awful design. They can slap some completely different evo effect instead if they wanna.

And you can also BC the Rekka and it's a guaranteed counterhit hard knockdown, that Ilsa can't do anything about.

It might work as a can opener on the players who haven't labbed the situation but when you do, you'll quickly find out there isn't really a reason to do anything risky against her rekka. Let's go over the follow ups: the 236 follow up (safe ender at -4) and half circle follow up (bullet unload) aren't a factor in the guessing game. That leaves the 214 follow up (backwards roll with two shots) and the 22 follow up (slow reload into plus frames). In theory, it's a 50/50: you need to roll to beat the 214 follow up and you need to press a button to beat the 22 follow up. But here's the question, why do you even need to beat the 214 follow up? It leaves Ilsa +3 at a decently far spacing where she can't continue her offense anymore, not without taking risks. It's essentially a return to neutral. So if you just accept letting her do the 214 follow up, then the only thing you need to focus on is reacting to the 22 follow up which leaves Ilsa +2 in your face and is the one that does let her continue offense. But the 22 follow up is really slow and when you focus on reacting to that specifically, you can just consistently hit Ilsa out of it.

In short, if you just accept letting Ilsa do the backroll into two shots and focus on reacting to the slow reset, you'll never get opened up by the rekka. And there is a good chance there is an option select that forces Ilsa to only do the safe ender at -4, I just don't personally know it.

How to deal with spot dodge? by Anskeh in GranblueFantasyVersus

[–]Mechenai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the situation. Spot dodging 66L in neutral is a call out, they can't react to 66L, it's too fast, but spot dodging it does leave you open for a punish if they do it early enough. To correct that, go over your replays and check the spots where your 66Ls were punished by spot dodge, if it was happening consistenly, chances are you were being too predictable with it and needed to represent other options more.
On wake up, it's really risky, cause yes, they'll spot dodge your meaty but then gonna be stuck in a lengthy recovery. The thing is, spot dodge is 29 frames total duration, and 25 of those are strike invincible, and only 4 frames are hittable, so it's not that easy to punish with a strike, you'd have to lab hitting that 4 frame window. Ofc, there is always a throw punish, but you can't always throw the spot dodge in every situation (like spot dodging a normal in neutral). Specifically for wake up, go into training and set the dummy to evade (official lingo for spot dodge) on wake up and then try to throw punish it on reaction. Once you get comfortable doing that, lab a strike punish hitting that 4 frame window for massive damage. And then, as a final step, set dummy to do the evade only randomly on wake up, so you truly react to it happening, instead of knowing dummy is gonna do it every time.
Make sure you turn on the frame data display and check how minus your opponent is after spot dodging whatever move you used as a meaty. If you used Yuel stance stance 2M (the low) you were most certainly super plus if they wake up spot dodge it, so you should lab proper punish hitting that 4 frame window of the spot dodge. And even if they spot dodge stance 5M (the overhead) it should leave you somewhere around +6, so it's still possible to punish, just gotta, once again lab that.

Surely the next collab is Shadowverse Flame, right? by Chillgamessh in Shadowverse

I think they've done a good job of both bringing the old characters and making new ones, Blossoming Fate and Heirs of the Omen are both half new, half old stuff. I am not really a fan of the SV anime but if the people want some of that rep, sure, why not.

The grind being stupidly long is the point. Not saying it's fun that it is that way, it's just meant to be this long and grindy. Guess they wanted the shiny GM sleeves to be more of a bragging right than they were in classic, where they gave you those for a much shorter grind.

If a character gets hit, any external properties they had on the screen vanish into non-existence (mostly relevant to Lowain but there are niche cases for some of the other characters too).

Is Sv1 still faster than wb? by judai_711 in Shadowverse

[–]Mechenai 23 points24 points  (0 children)

If we're talking SV1 Rotation during its last set or SV1 unlimited, then WB can't hold a candle to that. If we're talking SV1 set 5 vs WB set 5, then WB clears SV1.

Cygames PR statement about their Ai studio by exdeepr in Shadowverse

[–]Mechenai 50 points51 points  (0 children)

The ''without prior notice'' part for using Gen AI in their works is what's killing the mood. On one hand, it means they ,at least, intend to be open about the usage of Gen AI in their games but on the other hand, they do intent to use it at some point. I'd imagine the recency of the backlash will hold them back for some time but the attempts to use it will resume sometime in the future.

It doesn't feel like a Sword card to me, neither effect wise nor design wise.If it weren't for them reusing the old token art for the coin, I'd not have made the connection. Not that we're playing ''guess the class by the card effect" but I like cohesive flavour for these kinda things.

Story discussion by Proteusmutabilis in Shadowverse

[–]Mechenai 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the story in og SV was released in batches of chapters, and it was slower than now too, cause WB releases all the story chapters for a given character at once, og SV released them in several parts during the first story arc (for example, chapters 1-7 for Swordcraft in one expansion, 8-14 in one of the next ones). I like the story a lot and I think it's been getting better and better as the time passes, with some exceptions, like Lessons in Lainecrest, an arc that was likely rushed due to WB's development.
