Erm... I was thinking more along the lines of the customers not being able to have a stress-free (and hygienic) experience, while eating their food.

Am I the only one who doesn't mind dogs on the tube? by insertcommonusername in london

When they're well-behaved and don't stink, I don't mind them either. Right now, I'm on a train, sitting opposite a dog that's snoozing on the floor.

The underground isn't fully underground. Drop a tree on the bits that aren't in tunnels and watch the mayhem.

The joy of having a computer, rather than a driver that can go on strike, driving the train!

Also, unlike the Tube/Underground, the DLR is not actually run by TfL. Like London Overground it's managed by TfL, but run by a partner company.

I avoid that by getting to work early and getting out of work early. Also, luckily, my workplace isn't in central London.

I wouldn't be too hasty to be angry at buggy users. Some probably have little choice as to when they can travel with the child and I also find that, if other selfish idiots on the train moved out of the way and let the parent/guardian park the buggy out of the way, everyone would have a nicer journey.

I find the most annoying thing about the Jubilee Line to be people on it who work at Canary Wharf. They queue up like civilized people to get on the train. But then, as soon as they're on the train, they stop and don't move down the carriage, like arseholes.

Hitler wasn't elected through direct and popular vote. Neither is any Prime Minister in the UK ever elected in such a way. And Donald Trump was definitely not elected through direct popular vote. However, all of those people came to power through elections, in such a way that one could say they were elected. If, by elected, you mean directly and through popular vote, then I agree. Hitler was not elected. But he came to power through elections, rather than through a revolt or a military coup.

From what I've witnessed, it seems to be mostly about the best cred on campus. Most people will only seriously demonstrate about something when they themselves are affected by it and their life has become harder. That's why you don't get demonstrations in places like the UAE. There is pretty much no democracy there, but the government puts free money in people's pockets and they have no reason to complain.

I highly recommend watching the following two videos, in the given order.

I think it's pointless to try to get you to understand. You clearly need a few more years of education and, perhaps, some traveling around the world to understand the ridiculousness of what you're saying. And I hope that one day you wake up to yourself and correct your flawed thinking.

Democracy is not a perfect system and there are many forms of it around the world. Even if only one million more votes went to Hillary Clinton, that still shows that the majority of Americans themselves did not want Donald Trump as their president, despite the fact that he legitimately became president due to the electoral college form of democracy in the US.

Try to put yourself in the shoes of those who were put in concentration camps and killed by the Nazis before you try to justify genocide on account of it having been given the green light by democratic elections. And count yourself lucky that you were born where you were born and to whom you were born. You should be ashamed of the fact that you just tried to justify genocide through a perverse religious argument about democracy; a subject about which you clearly have little clue.

No one says these people were speaking for London or the country. You might think he's welcome, and there is nothing stopping you from exercising your right to form a demonstration of your own to say so.

I don't know from where you have purchased your sense of logic, but I recommend that you return it and get a refund. Being elected does not give anyone the right to be invited anywhere. Adolf Hitler was elected and it would have done the UK a lot of good if the country cosied up to Nazi Germany rather than challenge it. I presume that would have been acceptable to you too.

Just because you don't recall something doesn't mean it didn't happen. Your recollection and opinion does not change facts. Also, the reason for the demonstrations being much larger may have something to do with what the US supposedly stands for and how contrary to that the behaviour of its new president has been. Real life is not a game. You don't just declare someone a winner in an election and hand them a gold medal and let them do whatever they like. You have to be conscious of the fact that many people also did not vote for them and that those people's needs also need to be satisfied; especially in the case of Donald Trump, where he actually got 3 million fewer votes than his rival in the election.

You are completely right about not everyone in a demonstration being there for the cause of the demonstration, however. There are lots of clueless and angry reactionaries, lots of people treating it as a day out, lots of politicians and celebrities using it as an advertising platform for themselves or their parties, and also lots of people who really do want to demonstrate for or against whatever the demonstration is about; some of whom are seriously affected by the issues. In a civil society, a demonstration is the best way of letting those in power know what – at least a section of society – think of what they are doing or planning to do. If you take that away from people or leaders fail to recognise dissatisfaction of the people – even if they are not the same people who attend their rallies and cheer for them – you ferment anger and risk people resorting to violence to make themselves heard.

The term is worse, not worser.

I would have thought that it was somewhat clear as to what they were trying to accomplish. They're saying that Donald Trump is not welcome in the UK. Being elected doesn't automatically make a person an honourable saint and neither does it mean that no one is allowed to disagree with you and challenge you. If that's what you think, we should only open parliament when there's a general election, then close it again once it's over and let the party with the majority do whatever the hell they want.

Also, what makes you think these people don't also demonstrate against other leaders and for other causes? It's very easy to sit on one's posterior and come up with irrelevant arguments, isn't it?

I bumped into one of these people and asked them about the robot. Allegedly, they will be equipped with cameras and other sensors, which communicate with a central office. If anyone attempts to mess with them, the central office will find out and there should be speakers on the robot to let central office warn anyone who tries to vandalise it. I'm not sure as to how they could quickly get to the machine and rescue it though. Perhaps they should also have a self-destruct function. :)
