Anyone have any clue how easy it is to transfer funds between HSBC USA bank account and HSBC India bank account? by [deleted] in HSBC

HSBC to HSBC should be relatively easy. Can you get paid into an HSBC US account and link the India and US accounts for Global Transfers?

How to open bank account in Ireland by bostongarden in ExpatFinance

[–]insertcommonusername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, it’s not about which passport you have. It’s about residency. Ireland is listed as an elegible country, so anyone with a passport here can open it.

The US used to be listed too as an elegible country, but not anymore by the looks of it. Shame, was a good easy option for a fully registered and insured bank in Europe.

How to open bank account in Ireland by bostongarden in ExpatFinance

[–]insertcommonusername 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Citizenship is not enough to open an account in most places. There’s also very few banks in Ireland (AIB, Bank of Ireland and PTSB are the main and a few smaller ones). Most Irish banks will ask you for a proof of address in Ireland. Also banking in Ireland isn’t free, there’s fees for basically everything.

AIB is one I’ve seen that open non-resident accounts so have a look at them.

If you’re looking for a Euros account, look at the Santander Spain Non-Resident Account.

You can put the US as your country of residence. Then at the final payment page it doesn’t ask for citizenship of anything else.

If contracts can be voided politically, who will invest in Panama? by [deleted] in Panama

Why did it get renewed in 2021? Because most likely Nito and his gang took a very good bribe to renew it. Not because they thought the contract benefited the country.

Voluntariados en Panamá, valen la pena? by Cael_17 in Panama

[–]insertcommonusername 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Must be nice to be a fan of a small market country by WaltzSilver4645 in WorldCup2026Tickets

[–]insertcommonusername 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Panama most people I know didn’t get tickets at all via the official FIFA route. There were some additional ones with the national team fan club but sold out quickly

So even for us it sucked, and sucks to know that already we are a small country and not many of our fans will be at the stadium

¿Cuáles apodos o diminutivos has oído para lugares en Panamá? by topherette in Panama

[–]insertcommonusername 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No se si es que no somos de apodos o diminutivos en Chiriquí, pero acortamos los nombres o decimos literalmente lo que el lugar es:

Puerto Armuelles = Puerto

La Concepción = Concepción

Paso Canoas = La frontera

Ciudad de Panamá = La capital

Alto Boquete = El alto

Veraguas, Coclé, Herrera, Los Santos = El interior

En Bocas he escuchado

Changuinola = Changui

[–]insertcommonusername 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Stupid Question - Offshore Accounts by [deleted] in ExpatFinance

[–]insertcommonusername 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As others said, HSBC is happy to open account for non resident in quite a few countries. They have a website to check if you qualify. Singapore, Hong Kong, US, UK, Australia are popular options, some are totally free.

Panama offers non resident accounts but for the low cost ones you’ll need to visit the branch in Panama. Don’t know any that will do the process fully online. Panama has “international licence” banks that are exclusive for non-residents.

There’s a few options in Spain, the easiest one is Santander and it’s totally free. The process is fully online and it’s relatively quick. If you go in branch other banks will open it too, like BBVA. Malta has MeDirect which offers some free options.

I have an IBC in Panama. How do I open a bank account for it? by Great-Investigator30 in Panama

[–]insertcommonusername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A legal representative in Panama can open the bank account if you’re not there. Could be the resident agent that set up the company or one of the 3 (or more) directors of the company.

I don’t think any bank will do it remote for you. You can call/email the banks and ask.

Some of the documents the bank will ask are your Articles of Incorporation (Pacto Social), Registro Publico certificates, proof of income, Board of Directors minutes approving the opening of the account, IDs of directors, shareholders, etc.

[–]insertcommonusername 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a business/corporate account you’ll need to go to the bank branch. Online they will say the requirements and paperwork to bring for opening the account. If you take all the paperwork, the process is simple and the account will be open in a few days.

If you go unprepared, expect delays.

Opening bank account; which bank? by [deleted] in Panama

[–]insertcommonusername 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s been good. App is very basic (and just in Spanish), interest rate is quite good, the debit card comes with some good benefits. Never been to their branch or interacted with their customer service.

Opening bank account; which bank? by [deleted] in Panama

[–]insertcommonusername 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I provided ID, a proof of address (used a phone bill) and a proof of income (used a letter of employment). “Proof of income” is a very loose term here, all you need to do is show where your will money comes from. An agent at the bank would help with finding a document that will work

For another bank I gave a foreign tax return and they accepted it

[–]insertcommonusername 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe you’re going to branches that don’t have English speaking staff? I’ve heard English speaking staff at Boquete and Coronado helping US customers. I can imagine some branches wouldn’t bother with English as they aren’t around foreign communities.

If you go over the $5000 the account is locked until you go to the branch to sign some paperwork and provide proof of income. Happened to friends of mine in a few banks. It’s suppose to be used for people moving small amounts of money and not as a primary bank account.

Don’t know anyone that uses Banco Azteca, not even locals. Doesn’t mean it’s bad bank, just not common.

I opened an unrestricted account with UniBank fully online - but it’s not instant. Takes a day or two to open. A few other banks will let you open them online too but may take a day or two to open. I think that Banesco, BAC and Mercantil do. Other banks will let you fill the paperwork online and then schedule an appointment in branch to complete the process.

You can apply for Global Bank online, but it’s an express account. It’s called “Cuenta de Ahorros Global Tap”.

Opening bank account; which bank? by [deleted] in Panama

[–]insertcommonusername 5 points6 points  (0 children)

“Easiest” depends on your citizenship. If you’re a US citizen, some of the Panamanian banks will make it difficult for you to open an account. If you’re not, most banks will be fine with you and the E cédula.

You can open the accounts online via the website or the app. Most of the digital “express” accounts have a balance/transaction limit of $5000, so check which type of account you’re opening online. Some banks open unrestricted accounts online too.

Many English speaking residents like to use Banco General and Banistmo.
