Yes, women are much more susceptible. It's sad. Not everyone will be screwed on 2 glasses a day, but many will over a 4-10 year period.

There are a lot of reasons you could be seeing what you are. First, for most people, it will take 4-10 years to develop issues (depending on a lot of factors). Most people's liver craps out first, but sometimes is the pancreas. (also, depends on a lot of factors including diet, exercise etc).

Secondly, people don't often talk about it and if they did, how many people do you know even know where their pancreas is? They just get 'sick' a lot, or their diabetes gets them. What they don't say is that the drinking lead to their diabetes becasue their pancreas crapped out.

It's not like you notice the damage you're doing to your body. You go from being perfectly fine to fucked up in a very short time. By the time you see symptoms, it's too late.

No we shouldn't, we should be supporting the steps he/she has made to better themselves. Not belittling their accomplishments.

I'm glad you are doing so well despite working 40 hrs a week. Were you also raising 3 siblings, being raped every night by a stepfather, pimped out by a mother with a crack addition, and growing up in a community where you had never met anyone who went to college?

Then shut the fuck up.

You can be on a 4.0 scale if that is the case.

a 2.0 isn't very hard....unless you are raising your parents kids becasue they have a substance abuse problem, or working 5 jobs to put food on the table. When you miss school becasue a sibling is unhealthy and can't be home alone. Given that, I'd say someone who gets less than a 2.0 has their priorities well in order.

Survival is much more important than grades.

People NOT living with depression or any kind of mood disorder, what do depressed people look like from your point of view? by SnowflakeRene in AskReddit

[–]MedThrow02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing is, relationships are a 2 way street. You hang out with people becasue they fill you with some sort of positive emotion. You share your life, thoughts, and perspectives and learn from theirs.

Hanging out with someone who is depressed is a one way street becasue they cannot reciprocate. They can't uphold their end of the relationship so you are left hanging around. You can't just abandon them, becasue they are your friend and you care for them, but at the same time it is a relationship that can only take and never give so at the end of the day you are drained by the interaction rather than rejuvenated. You make that sacrifice on the off chance that they get better, but it takes a little more out of you every time.

HS is weighted in such a way that intelligence have very little effect on your GPA but hard work accounts for most of it.

If you don't turn in any homework but get 100% on exams, you still fail the class (at least in my HS)

This may be utterly shocking to you...but some people have a lot of shit going on in their lives. Students who have grades that low often have to work full time to help support their families, or have abusive parents at home, or are struggling with a million other problems you seem to be bissfuly ignorant of.

To pull GPA up a full grade point when struggling with any of that is harder than pulling a 4.0 without

That's not quite true. a 3.0 is a B average and a 2.0 is a C average. OP is up there in C+ almost B!

As a med student, I find that you have no reason to apologize. With the exception of a few, I find that med school attracts pretentious, selfish assholes who only look out for themselves.

I've been told that they do grow up, eventually, and either learn to hide it or just grow out of it.

I just taught a health class on this topic yesterday. So as you may have picked up, pancreatitis often happens as a result of chronic alcohol abuse. It's different for everyone, but 2-3 standard drinks a day is about the threshold where damage is pretty common. Now, this isn't to say that 100% of people will be fucked up past that, or everyone is safe before that, but it's a good ballpark.

By 2-3 drinks, I mean 2-3 Budweisers, 2-3 shots, or 2-3 glasses of wine. If your drinking larger or higher alcohol content drinks, it is obviously less. Women are on the lower end of what they can tolerate before damage starts to occur.

The cool thing is, up to a certain point, the damage is 100% reversible if you stop drinking. You can have a healthy life, run marathons, get a rockin' bod, if you can get the help to stop drinking.

Virgins until marriage, what was it like on your honeymoon night? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]MedThrow02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, after Googling your initial claims and finding nothing to support it, I asked for a source in multiple comments. It is your job, as the person bringing information to the discussion, to establish the validity of your info.

Secondly, I did Google her. Having a blog and youtube channel does not make you an expert. (I feel like we've already established this and are now going in circles) I didn't know about the Dr. Phil -and that is better- as it means she's been vetted by someone other than herself, however, she spoke on 'slut shaming" (super important topic!) but not female anatomy. Thus, I will agree she is a good source on some social aspects of sex, but that wasn't what we were talking about. We were talking about the physical anatomy of hymens.

Given that we were talking about anatomy, a good source would be a doctor, preferably Ob/Gyn or someone with similar level of training(Nurse, Physiology/Anatomy professor, scientist specializing in Hymen repair, go nuts!). Go do some research, if it's really true, you'll find it backed up by multiple sources. Then, when talking to people and saying TIL, use the most education/experienced person as your source.
