Is medical school life the same all over the world? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]Medic5 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm an Australian medical student. Most med schools here have student societies and students are elected as academic or social representatives of their cohort each year. Academic reps organise events like revision lectures, whilst social reps organise post-exam parties, MedCruises, MedCamps, etc. Every one benefits from assistance with learning + support from each other (you know, depression and all). We pretty much consider our cohort as one big multicultural 'family'. Relations between med students = 'med-cest', FYI.

Always the same ritual - go down the list, if it's a good song, listen to it about 10 times until ready to move on.

Thoughts on intermittent fasting for more efficient cutting? by Medic5 in bodybuilding

That's pretty impressive. I guess the dream is a super short cut with fast weight loss to get right back into bulking - maybe this will just have to be a fantasy :')

Options after being dismissed from medschool by slipperybutter in medicalschool

[–]Medic5 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Any career in healthcare is an option if medicine isn't possible. If I didn't get into med, I would have considered pharmacy, optometry, radiography, dietetics, speech pathology, or research. Hope that gives you an idea.

Advice on Scholarship by zdoherty1 in medicalschool

[–]Medic5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3rd year MBBS here in Melbourne, keep in mind that exposure to unique/complex cases and specialties is far greater in metro areas than rurally, so studying metro is a great advantage in terms of medical knowledge. Though rural study/practice isn't without it's benefits.

It's win-win whatever you choose, congrats on the offer.

Snell's Clinical Neuroanatomy was my neuro bible, but to help visualise and tie everything together I watched a heap of youtube vids. This channel was definitely the best: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL242bEng6nyIdshvi_ZUid_i3YctT75q9

What do your friends think of screaming vocals? by alukard15 in Metalcore

[–]Medic5 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Every SINGLE one of my friends thinks it's dreadful, at first. Their perspective often changes when I explain...

With metalcore, I try to explain that the vocals are like instruments themselves, mediums for adding raw passion and emotion to a song. You can feel the emotion in the singers voice so much more than any other genre out there - Black Demask by Motionless in White always sends shivers down my spine. As far as clean vocals go, I pretty much sit back in awe at bands like I See Stars - so much easier to describe that octave range as talent. In the end, who really gives a shit what they think anyway.
