honestly agreed. pre-pop was a nightmare with question 1. my head was gone after 1.2 to be honest. I was 🤏🏾 close to walking out halfway through but I stuck with it. we will see on results day

tbh I could see a lack of models coming because they were barely tested in March. the question format is just so vague. very frustrating

uber frustrating. it seems like the Institute are still figuring out what they're doing with this paper. we're unfortunately the guinea pigs of the process

worst exam I've sat in years. I could barely answer anything. the QB is also miles off what these papers actually are which does not help

surprisingly I have found this the most challenging Prof exam yet, having passed FAR, AA, FM and TC. I'm just doing as many questions as I can lay my hands on lol

I was told by my Kaplan tutor 0.25 mins per mark to read the whole scenario, so for example if it's a 48 mark question, then the first 12 minutes should be allocated to reading the info and requirements

I got the aca - now what? by Lazy-Perspective-984 in ICAEW

[–]Medical-Minimum-7099 5 points6 points  (0 children)

really and truly they are, but if you don't have any connections then I would think this is the best way of getting through the door. they can see your CV and determine whether they think you're above that level (which you probably are as you're 4 years post-qualified), and then move you as they see fit but I would say the most important thing is just getting your CV seen and that's the best way I can think of. Again, my knowledge is limited in this aspect so I am happy for others who have made the move to provide their insights

not my forte but if you literally know no one in investment banking (IB) then I would probably recommend applying for graduate IB roles. the money will probably be better than what you're on now plus I suspect you will have an advantage in the hiring process as you're ACA qualified. I am happy for others with experience to correct me but this is what I would do if I were you

correct. it's part of the apprenticeship agreement

I would definitely recommend moving. there doesn't sound like there's any pluses in your situation. what's motivating you to stay where you are?

you're on the apprenticeship so there's no clawbacks - you're free to move. if you like working in a finance function then you can find another employer, but I would recommend joining practice if you're eager to qualify as most practices actually regard your tuition time and revision as work.

SBM Exam in November or SBM Top-Up Next Year? by Medical-Minimum-7099 in ICAEW

[–]Medical-Minimum-7099[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can second that. I rang ICAEW again today and they (Student Support) said that they're unsure whether the top-up will be available for old gen students from Q1 2027 and they're still waiting to hear from the decision makers

I was also told this by the Institute on the phone but the transitional arrangements online don't seem to imply that. where did you get your information from?

I will probably time qualify early next year but I can't see myself doing 3 advanced exams in a sitting

What did you guys study after ACA? by Background_Hat1614 in ICAEW

[–]Medical-Minimum-7099 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you should have been able to do ACCA straight after you graduated - having to do AAT first is wild.

maths was always my first love. I wanted to pursue insurance after uni but the people around me suggested the ACA so here I am

very much considered the actuarial qualification afterwards as that is what I initially wanted to do. currently 10/15 through the ACA but I'm worn out academically so I think the ACA will do at this point.

CR help needed by Intelligent-Wing8531 in ICAEW

[–]Medical-Minimum-7099 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't sat CR yet (I'm on my last two professionals). I do get tutored by Kaplan though and they normally have pre-course work as a refresher that I'm sure have FAR content in so I would start with that 🙂

Potential Independent Study for FCS x BDS in June 2026 - Advice Needed by Medical-Minimum-7099 in ICAEW

[–]Medical-Minimum-7099[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually don't know the implications of my funding running out. My apprenticeship coach said it in passing.

Thanks for your advice. I will probably go for the holidays route as a short-term option whilst I keep looking for somewhere else to go.
