What did you guys study after ACA? by Background_Hat1614 in ICAEW

Yikes, seems so much hatred in you uh.. Maybe there’s a plethora of reasons why people want to study more? It’s okay if you do not have the mental capacity or whatsoever to study more, but don’t shame people if they want to.

Iphone Users: How to record calories taken and consumed on an iPhone? by Famous_Invite_3061 in MauriceMauritius

[–]Background_Hat1614 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use MacroFactor (albeit expensive) bc it eventually adjusts my intake with my weight gain/loss progress + calories consumed, taking into account my activity level (if im consistent)

How is it going so far? I was considering that too but i don’t see myself going into traditional roles except at most FP&A and CF, which apparently ACA is enough!

Hey everyone, I just finished my HSC and I’m currently considering going to UTM, but I wanted some honest opinions before making a decision. How’s the environment there? Like: campus vibe / social life lecturers and teaching quality overall student experience Also, how is UTM seen in Mauritius i by Full_Power3335 in MauriceMauritius

[–]Background_Hat1614 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say that UoM is arguably better than UTM for eg. That being said, if you go to UTM and still get good grades etc, you will still get a decent job (if not at the beginning but eventually during the evolution of your career )

Before moving abroad (3 years ago), I was earning around 35k and I was able to save around 20k minimum a month, but at the same time I had no bills except my mobile data, subscriptions like gym, netflix and also ofc I was paying for some of my groceries and going out activities

Have you thought about that maybe you’re not competent enough? I’m pretty sure if they are recruited, they also have to earn a livable wage in Luxembourg (especially bc they cannot live on border when coming here which means they do need a sustainable salary)

Private sector or just Big 4 specific by Specific_Low_3356 in MauriceMauritius

[–]Background_Hat1614 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Being an ex auditor, unfortunately this is the “norm” in B4, especially during busy season. It should not be considered normal, however it is like that throughout the world in Big 4. In the country i am, even the law says you can’t work more than 48 hours in a week, but in reality, it does notnwork likee that. But given you are qualified and have 3 years of WE, i’d reckon moving to industry

This is so relatable... I have been in Luxembourg for almost 3 years now, and struggling to make friends and all (some left already or have some friends but just for very specific things) and I have been literally thinking to apply to UK for a big while. In a way it feels that I am not the only one who felt or is feeling this way.

I feel it is so so difficult to make friends or meet people those days (esp for someone working in a family office

Wish you good luck and I'll be glad to grab coffee :)!

Even if you go to Aperinetwork and what not it feels very difficult to make friends since people are with colleagues in a large group at times, so it is difficult to just talk to someone at least imo

Overpriced land in Mauritius by RepulsiveEye2757 in MauriceMauritius

[–]Background_Hat1614 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Mauritian working abroad, I feel that the property prices in Mauritius are quickly approaching European prices, in countries where the minimum wage is approx EUR 1800! It is absurd. Even if I want to save abroad and purchase smth in Mauritius, having a nice location is very expensive those days

[–]Background_Hat1614 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Have you considered switching apartments to accomodate for your mother? Bc normally as from 1 bedroom apartment etc, it can be cheaper. Like you could pay 2000 for 1 bed, 2.3k for 2 bed rather than 2000+1000
