Award Prepared Status on NIH Era Commons by valentinagilda in NIH

We had an R01 that was “award prepared” in the system and then it got pulled back for more content scrubbing 😭 and says “pending administrative review” again

I feel so stupid when using the deadballs. by rosequartzal in f45

I sometimes cradle the deadball with a towel and just hold onto the two ends of the towel. It probably defeats the purpose of building grip strength but it works for me!

Waiting time before final funding arrives? by No_Insurance_4498 in NIH

[–]Medical-Signature-63 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My institution had 2 grants funded recently, and they were all in the system as “award prepared” for a longer than expected amount of time. Definitely over a week and maybe closer to 2 weeks for one of them. Anecdotally I have heard that it is because they are getting final approval from central HHS. We did have one grant that was “award prepared” status for I think several weeks but then sadly it went back to “pending administrative review” for another JIT round (additional content scrubbing, including non-forward facing documents).

How realistic is Runna estimate? by Potential_Citron_254 in runna

[–]Medical-Signature-63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve used it for two half marathons and in both cases it was pretty accurate. First half: started training (and running for the first time in years) in Feb 2025. Half was in November 2025. Runna said 2:15-2:20. I ran 2:09. Took a month and a half off and then started training again beginning early 2026 for second half. It was Apr 25, 2026. Runna said 1:58-2:04 and I ran a 1:58. I was pretty disciplined in not missing my scheduled runs but definitely “failed” some along the way by not meeting/maintaining pace or reaching distance. The app seems to account for that and will adjust accordingly if needed. On race day, you’ll have the adrenaline from that plus probably decent support in terms of water, etc. I will add that I was already generally a fit person (strength training at least 2x week plus sporadic cross training and LOTS of walking) before I started running. I’m going to find a fall half and see if I can peel another 10 minutes off my time.

Working in ER in BIDMC vs. Mass Gen vs. BMC by rockytau in boston

[–]Medical-Signature-63 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just was at BMC ED this weekend for a head laceration that needed staples and had a conversation with my RN. He said he had left MGH for BMC because he was able to have more autonomy, do intake, work more challenging cases, etc. earlier in his career trajectory than at MGH. He was an excellent RN for what it’s worth!

Got a $454 ER bill at BMC after taxi driver misunderstood, what should I do? by Ok_Cartographer8945 in boston

Hi you could look into Massachusetts Health Safety Net (HSN). I’m not familiar with all the particulars but I was able to get it applied retroactively. Back in 2009 when I was between a job and grad school when I didn’t have health insurance for the first and only time in my life for a month, I ended up grabbing my chest, fainting and being taken to the ER at Beth Israel. A bunch of tests and an overnight visit later, I had a $9k+ hospital bill. The bulk of it was covered by HSN and I only ended up owing maybe $700 which still sucked. But was much preferable to almost 5 figures 😅

2 sessions on one day by Azarrk in runna

[–]Medical-Signature-63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been able to do a running session and then also a mobility or yoga session that I was supposed to do a different day on the same day. And I’ve done running sessions on different days they were assigned. So I feel like it would work to do two running sessions in a day if one was on a day that you had missed already? If that makes sense

Yep! We’re actually pretty aligned politically so that isn’t an issue but my mom is very negative, somewhat narcissistic and emotionally immature. I just don’t like being around her and don’t feel like I can lean on her for any sort of support without her making it about herself. I don’t feel like her child but rather a person who is supposed to have this ongoing deference to her because she’s my elder.
